Sam is a great captain with many years under his belt and full of knowledge. He is happy to talk and answer any questions you may have. I am in the process of getting my license and you really have to be committed. It is a full time job and you can't forget that but it's one that if you love it then you will always be happy doing it. It's also costly but then again the expense gets put in the back burner when the drags fire off and everyone is smiling and screaming. I love it and love teaching what I have learned, sometimes it's a miserable day but at the end I look at it like I wasn't sitting in an office somewhere wishing I was outside. It's also good to have a good crew also the has the same passion.

You could give Sutters a call they might have a slip available still 482-4112

I use specifically for copper and leadcore. If you have them set up for the right direction they work great. I attach mine to the backing and you attach to the tension clip on the face of board and then pull the pin which faces doe and put tag end going to lure behind the pin. Usually they will dive when a fish grabs it or if it gets hung up on bottom.

I have to agree with you On the Lam- only because these custom color Bay Rats I had made up were strictly based on color due to Storm discontinuing it. Now my Thundersticks still out produce them but when the conditions are proper this particular color is the bomb and can't keep a rod in the water. Other days like I had 2 weeks ago we couldn't shake a rod no mater what color we had out. It all depends on the conditions guys

Can also try mikes mobile mechanic they may be able to help. A buddy has the same motor and was running really rough and would stall every now and then. Turned out to be his distributor cap and rotor

Well guys just wanted to give a big hell yah to Bayrat Lures. I contacted them through a buddy of mine and had them make up a custom color that I actually run 3 at a time on my program cause this color has been the hottest color that I have come across whether the water is gin clear or stained. It's only available from the stock that I purchased through them or ASB Tackle in Olcott. It's called ASB Mustard only cause we didn't want to infringe upon right of another manufacturer that used to make this color and seized production of it. If interested you can shoot me a PM or Greg at ASB Tackle at 716-638-4158 and they are available in all 3 sizes

I have always run my tank dry and I have a 168 gallon tank on my boat. Also at the same time I use Sta-bil and run nothing but non ethanol fuel. Both my motors are direct injected outboards so I know exactly when bad fuel is in the tank and after seeing what happens to ethanol fuel in 3 weeks I will never use it again. My truck is diesel and my gas cans get non ethanol fuel in them and so does my wife's vehicle. I have seen picture of a poly fuel tank actually melt from ethanol fuel and fill a boats hull with the fuel. It's an opinion thing but seasonal items all get the fuel drained and fogged.

I was told by a mechanic and very knowledgable man that if you add fresh has to bad gas you just end up with a tank of bad gas. A buddy of mine found that out 2 years ago when he tried a piston on a year old motor. Ethanol fuel is junk and breaks down (separates) in 3 weeks and can't make it good anymore. Your best bet would be to drain it and mix in a vehicle or have one hell of a bonfire don't risk damaging your motor. Or just give Rick at power marine in canandaigua a call and he can explain and show you what it can do. Good Luck

Sea-IV replied to jimalbert's topic in Tackle and Techniques
The best deal for your money would be the Okuma Classic rods matched up with the Magda reels. You can get those is combos on EBay or local sporting goods stores for $55-$65 for the combo. -
IBay 4-18

I didn't notice anyone there yesterday when we picked up my buddy and I think they start the first weekend in May. I haven't launched there in a long time due to the issues and costs. The state gets enough money from me so now I dock my boat and it's much easier -

I wish I had some luck yesterday out there. Came out the chute and setup right in front of the beach and headed east in 8-10fow and couldn't buy a bite then zig zagged through traffic at the point to the pier. I did notice Bruce and Rich circling at the point but by time I got back to it the wind shifted and I said we gonna head I. Before it gets rolling so hopefully that will be my only skunk of this season. -

My boat is 27' and I replaced my 150's cause 1 they were carbed and second they would foul out the plugs after a couple of trips trolling. Mine also were demos that Bob had on his boat at Pugleys and got a great deal on them. With the horsepower upgrade and the direct injection I also picked up another 20mph on my top end also. I wasn't an Evinrude guy before these and almost went for the four strokes but I am very impressed with the performance of these Etec's. -

I also replaced my Mercs with twin 200 HO Etec's last year. They are great. They sip fuel and yet can troll them down to 500 rpm's and I usually drop a motor and it sits at 1.9-2.1 usually have to bump it a bit but no complaints so far as of yet. Another thing I do like is that I can run my Merc props on them also -
I just replaced this HDS 9 Touch with an HDS 12. Absolutely nothing wrong with this unit. I have a transducer for it which is an 83/200 but do not have a mounting bracket for the head unit cause the marina installed in dash and don't give me any extra parts at that time. I also have the cables new in box. Asking $800 for everything includes shipping or can meet within reasonable distance

Your correct about the zebras and Quaggas cause when I do pull copper I have been as deep as 150' and have actually caught a clump on the hook several times. So it doesn't just affect the panfish either. Some of the Lakers I have caught and kept for a meal have had there stomachs loaded with them. The weed lines have gotten deeper and thinner as well. The coon tail is disappearing ever so slowly and that is a necessity for perch cause the grass crabs feed off that. So basically the ecosystem of the lake is changing and all fish have to adapt, some will do better than others.
-
As I grew up on that lake it has seen its up and downs from flooded cottages where the water was extremely high which wiped the bedding areas out and then there were times when I could cast of the dock and catch them one after the other. Oh and yes the old timers ( my gramps being one of them who guided there) would always make us throw back the big ones and never kept 50 or even close. To this day he goes out and catches 5-6 and that's good for the week. The biggest threat on that lake won't be over fishing, it will be the zebra mussels destroying the bedding areas. This can be noticed with the smallies spawning way deeper than ever and even becoming less popular to catch cause it's almost like they disappeared. Just think of what our kids will catch in 5,10 or 20 years that's all that needs to be thought of. Preservation

You could give Wes a call at Slippery Sinker, he ties up leaders for flies and I have gotten them from him in the past when I have run short before.
