  1. Yep that's a why the ice fishing stuff got put away last weekend and then took my road trip for tackle this weekend and then next weekend to Brewerton for the Lotsa swap meet and hopefully they will have dug the boats out by then cause I don't have a back hoe to get between the 2 boats on either side on mine.
  2. No use in guessing anymore. I just went to marina to check on the boat and there is at least 12' of snow down each side can't even see the trailer. Very disheartening when there is much to do this year before splashdown. The good news is that I made my yearly pilgrimage to buy tackle and supplies and didn't have to go to the corporate places, instead I supported a few local shops and maybe paid more but hell that's what it's about and was able to find everything that was needed. Now all I need is the boat to get her prepped garage is getting full and the wife wants her parking spot back
  3. Yah but in a tournament I don't want my guys on the rod all day that's why I use medheavy
  4. Here is a pic of what I am gonna add to the cuddy this year but I am concerned about head clearance
  5. I don't have any pics at this point as the boat is wrapped up. But the rod holders I have were stock with the boat and fold out of the way when I am not using them. I also just got an overhead rods storage rack for the cuddy that will allow me the store 10 more rods
  6. That's my problem I have 12 in racks (6 on each side) then my cope and core goes under floor so they don't get kicked around
  7. I am switching my rods up for this season and then on. I am currently switching over to Shimano Telora rods only because I am a Shimano guy reels included. My reels will all be Tekotas this year but for my rods I currently have the roller rods for copper and dipseys, but for my rigger rods I usually run a medium for trout and a medium heavy for the salmon both in the 8 foot length. Does everyone run separate rods for salmon and trout or am I just anal about my gear ? I mean the boat is only so big and I currently carry about 16 different rods on the boat for all purposes copper, leadcore, dipsey, trout and salmon trolling. Just trying to eliminate some if I can but don't want to sacrifice action and fish if needed. Thanks for your guys help.
  8. Not the fish and game club the GCBA. I have enough people that are members that I could get in but time runs thin with my business and kids so I will leave the membership for other people
  9. Spin doctor Black dot/ white flash with a 42nd street fly. Caught almost every species except a coho on it this past season
  10. So the next meeting is at the Irondequoit fish and game club next Tuesday correct? And can we sign up as a member at this meeting?
  11. I am in for it as well. Live by the bay for years fished since is was a kid and my family charted for many years so let's do this and get together and swap those good ole fishing stories me hear the theories. I am back on the bay myself and keep my boat there as well.
  12. Well I would say that all depends on their enviroment. Mature animals in the wild can live 8-13 years without any human interaction. These are not small animals either so mistaken identity should be unlikely. Here is a pic from a friend out west.
  13. There is also a proffesor at Cornell Co-Op that studies Mt.Lion movements and posted a article last year of some of his research here in NY from the alleged sightings. From the allegations he states that almost all of the tracks are from other predators and not Mt.Lion. In the article he actually encouraged people that were convinced to call and he would investigate the sightings.
  14. On our property in the southern tier we have an active pair of fishers that for the first time got on camera. That was cool to see and I have been in my tree stand and seen them come through early morning to feed on a gut pile but most of the time they are I think they are nocturnal but don't quote me on it just my opinion from the times I have seen them.
  15. I wasn't speaking of any illegal terms. In NY you can sign your doe tags over to another person. I love him dearly but since his stroke he can't walk right won't stay on the ground and doesn't have the arm strength to hold a gun up long enough to get the shot. As for the over harvesting well it surely isn't from the 6 guys who are allowed to hunt our property cause we are meat hunters, I love it and eat it as much as possible but in the same hand I usually get a deer during bow on another property and 2 from down at camp. There are 1000's of acres down there that are all wooded and hundreds of deer down there. I usually take a drive the first warm night we get in spring and the proof is standing by the dozens in the fields, roads and wherever they can be so I know the deer are here jus never had it so tough.
  16. I never panic, as a matter fact on road heading to camp for the afternoon with fresh snow should be easy to see if any are in area. Worked last year for me so I am hoping it will work today. Even if I don't shoot one it would be nice to a deer in the woods.
  17. Don't get me wrong I love him to death but he is 86 and had a stroke 2 years ago with me by his side, so to say the least I wish he would just stay at camp and let us fill his tags. I know he wants to be out there but its keeps me on edge when he is in a stand.
  18. Well I was thinking they might have been in lockdown mode also but the hunters from surrounding properties were there and didn't see any deer at all. Now a group did a drive in the afternoon next to us and none of them even shot. Very discouraging when they are doing drives on opening day and get no results.
  19. OK so here my buddy and I are all excited to finally be able to get the guns out and get some of these deer that just seem to stay out of bow range. Get to camp early Saturday and we head into the woods by 6 to be set by daylight. Well on my way to my stand I get a call gramps drove truck into a ditch. OK so out I go get in my truck head down the hill to pull him out, took 10 minutes all set. Get back to camp and as I am getting gear back on 3 does run across road into my woods. Great I think to myself, if he wouldn't have been stuck I would have a deer or 2. My buddy calls me and says Tom where are I can see 3 deer standing right next to your stand whats up. I tell him what happened and he notices the deer walking into brush between him and I so I quiey make my way to stand get set up. He calls me and tells me they are coming back toward me a 1 of them is a tank, so I ready myself keeping a close eye out and nothing. 15 minutes later I look to my right and there they are about 120 yards off right next to gramps stand. Huh where is gramps? He still at camp getting ready. As I am watching a shot rings out across the road and off they go running. Needless to say those were the only deer I managed to see all weekend an that single shot was the only shot within hearing range. Where the heck are all the hunters? All weekend not a single shot within a good mile and its all woods where we are at. We cover about 200 acres between 6 of us and no deer even naturally walking through cmon really. Now there are only 2 things that come to mind, poaching all year or there isn't the amount of deer in that area the Dec states there is. What's the opinion of everyone else? Now keep in mind we have hunters this place for 40 years so we do know the area pretty well.
  20. There was a farmer in southern NY who claimed a mountain lion was eating his sheep. He went to the Dec and they told him there was no probability of a my lion being in the region he was in. That being said the farmer waited the lion out and low and behold he ended up shooting it and bringing it to his local Dec office and said if there is no probability then what is this in the back of my truck. Needless to say the farmer was arrested and it was never heard of again. I will look for the article as it was I believe south of Bath and in there newspaper.
  21. It also might have to do with the weight of the truck to. Every truck you mentioned that made it was 2/3 less than yours. I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 diesel which I came from a 1500 and there is a big difference in where I go now to what I used to with the half ton. More weight and a stiffer suspension mean the tires will spin much easier. Gravity is a **** especially when going uphill even in 4 wheel drive.I changed my tires just because the stock tires weren't cutting it. I paid dearly but the Toyo Open Country tires are the cats meow for me haven't spun yet and I have been through some puckering places where other got stuck. Good luck.
  22. Another thing to consider is when this rut gets into full swing and these bucks find some hot does there search area shrinks considerably. I have a couple hundred acres I hunt and had the same bucks on cameras from one end to the other over a mile apart in the same day. When rut hits it will narrow down to a couple hundred yards that they will move around in checking there scrapes quite more often if the dies are passing through. The rut is a freaky thing cause you can get away with some scent and movement with a buck versus just there normal behavior because they are focused on that one thing does. I had a herd of does run by my camp last year and out behind them was a 10pt, I grabbed my bow and actually followed right behind this buck for at least half a mile and drew on him 3x but always looked back and turned straight away from me. The thing that got my attention was he never spooked, looked at me then looked at the does then put his nose down and kept walking behind them. Wildest thing I ever had in the woods I will never forget that.
  23. Not that I am saying its right but there are different types of expendables and those particular ones he is shooting are way different from the Rages.
