  1. Most sabots are made from another type of metal except for Lightfields with there slugs being jacketed like a muzzlel loading sabot. I still have the barrel just to remind him that it doesn't always pay to be cheap. Its really no different than a rifle, how many rifle cartridges are there with a lead bullet. None that I have come across except for .22 rounds and the reason for that would be accuracy.
  2. I agree with the change in times. I am fortunate to still be able to hunt with my grandfather, father, uncle, myself and now my daughter(which is a rarety). I am very conscious to explain to her the difference in the age in the deer we see so that years from now there is still a sustainable herd for her kids to hunt if they so choose. You see I was forced into hunting due to lack of money growing up so it was the only way meat came to the table. For my daughter she actually came to me wanting to go and without me knowing my wife had taken her to get her safety course and it really shocked me. I am thrilled to be able to hunt with 4 generations of my family and still for the same purpose(food). We are blessed in this country to be able to do so cause in several countries they don't have the opportunities we have here. Also as for the reason for the change for the most of it is the television, outdoor channel, pursuit channel ESPN and so on. Look at the millions of dollars in the hunting I dustry that wasn't around 20 years ago and longer. Without television this world would be a whole lot more primitive like it was back in the days.
  3. You could probably use the cheapies but you better think long term. Most cheapies are made of lead and when **** through a rifled barrel the heat actually melts the lead slug which in turn starts to fill in the grooves of the rifling. That in turn will end up causing problems with inaccurate grouping. I only know cause my dad has a Remington 870 with a rifled barrel and refused to pay the prices for sabots so he just shoots the sluggers through it and always wondered why he couldn't hit aanything. Took his barrels to a gun shop and ended up buying a Hastings due to the lead.
  4. I agree with misdemeanor as well. I have the same gun for my daughter and I have the 12 gauge. Had all kinds of problems with slugs and I started using the Lightfields and boy oh boy did they make a difference. My daughter has knocked deer down from 10 yards out to 80 yards and they haven't gone at most 30 yards before piling up. Me in the other hand just take head shots so they don't go anywhere. Getting to old to chase them down.
  5. I was in a similar situation early this season. I bought a bout that had twin 150 Merc's on it. The boat is 25.5' and weighs about 5000 lbs. I had a compression test done and found that I was losing a cylinder I. Each motor but they ran fine. Now I have the saltwater transom as well and figure the cylinders were going due to be under powered so I went and spent twice what I paid for the boat originally on 2 - Etec 200 HO's. My boat is a 2003 and figured I am gonna have the boat for a long time and it was well worth the investment. I would say that your boat is under powered cause at full load and my motors wide open and trimmed out I am turning about 42mph where the 150's would go about 29 mph and my fuel mileage was cut down by 2/3. Its a lot of money but in the end I don't second guess my boat and where and how long I can go for. Good luck
  6. Might be a decent bite on the east end but as for the central west end it seems as though they either ran up or took off deep again. We spent this whole weekend fishing from the Genny to Sodus with a buddy of ours from 30'-120' and managed 2 decents 20's and quite a few browns. I am done time to get the bow out and put some red meat back in the freezer. Good luck everyone
  7. That figures they would turn back on. We were there for 3 days last weekend and was blown off 2 days but managed 1 for 3 Friday on stickbaits cause the silvers were tearing harnesses up, then Sat we went 3 for 6 on the sticks again before getting blown off and Sunday we did better as the lake laid down going 7 for 9 biggest about 8#'s all on stickbaits again. Seemed anything with purple in it worked and we fished SW out of harbor towards Westfield from 70-95 fow. We will be back next July to get at them again.
  8. The crowds there are going to just get worse. Right now they are in for the salmon and then after that run they stick around for the steelhead til Dec-Jan I would say. Your best bet word be to get a good map from Fat Nancy's of the river and find a way up the river to get away and have some fun in the holes that don't get much pressure. Also keep in mind the further you go your gonna have to watch over shoulder for the coyotes that seem to migrate toward the river this time of year cause of the food (fish). Stay safe and good luck
  9. What Bailey said is a good bet. My last boat I had to use buckets on and they work great. Drill a 2" hole right in the bottom and tie off to a cleat with about 10' of rope or so they don't go past the back of boat. Plus you can steer better without that trolling plate. Good luck
  10. Guys I am thankful for everything you have responded with. Its hard enough to worry about fishing let alone my gramps, now throw in the weather well I just hope it all works out for his sake cause I want to have a killer trip.
  11. I had the same issue on my bass boat when I had a new power head put on the Mercury. They said they wouldn't honor it if they found different oil was used. I had a way around that because the Quicksilver brand is owned by Mercury and half the cost. Now with these new motors, the actual marina that installed them filled both tanks with the XD50 instead of the XD100 for direct injection and I have said something to them cause now that I switched it out they do run different.
  12. Guys I am hoping you can help. I am headed to Dunkirk with my grandfather for what might be hisast fishing trip. He is 87 years old and I have been promising him for 2 years I would take him. I finally got the time and he had a stroke last year so his health is starting to slip a bit. I was hoping that someone can tell me if the East wind is gonna make the lake roll this weekend. It looks like its gonna be about 10 mph from the east and he has a hard time balancing himself. My boat is big enough to handle snotty conditions but I don't want him getting beat up. Any help would be great thanks.
  13. IMO they have done about the same. If I had to build a fly combo that fit my best bites it would be, start with a white head with mirage, green UV with a bit of black in to break it up and use a white thread to tie it together.
  14. I just purchased twin Evinrude 200 HO's for my boat and was told any TC W3 oil will work but if you have a warranty and something were to happen mechanically they might not honor the warranty cause you didn't use the manufacturer's brand of oil. Outside of that if your not concerned then it shouldn't be a problem.
  15. Awesome video. I wish I had video of one who stole our perch from our bucket down at Seneca let alone it took the biggest one. Plus as you can see they are fearless.
  16. Totally understand what he is trying to do but might have been a better plan when Cuomo Sr was in office so my kids won't have to deal with the issues when the want to enjoy the lakes. Also we have to remember the Lady O is the toilet bowl of the great lakes and we all know what happens when your at the bottom of the ladder. I love these lakes and this state but regardless the politics are what's pushing people to leave.
  17. OK I have read the law and agree with it. Now my boat stays in a slip all season and when I just pulled it I had the bottom cleaned and acid washed. First question is where does the muratic acid go when they washed my boat when it was about 20 yards from the water when they did it, second not of far from the topic but how about all the million dollars homes that are built around these lakes and get there lawns fertilized every 4-6 weeks. Where does that end up after it leeches its way through the ground. Is that helping with the control of algae and the growth of invasive weeds. I don't see any enforcement coming out for that end of it which I believe does more damage to the water and fishery than what maybe stuck on the bottom of your boat. IMO
  18. Nope I myself am waiting as well. I called last Tuesday, actually called the Friday before that just got through finally Tuesday and they said it was in the mail. Well still a week and a half later I would have figured a guy buy horse could have delivered it by now.
  19. I believe the Seneca lake Duck club in Dresden is doing one next weekend if you want to check that one out. I just read about it in there news flyer at gramps over the weekend. I hope this helps.
  20. Power button may be sticking but you can also.turn unit off by just a tap of power button and the screen for brightness and such come up, at the bottom there is a shut down icon and you can turn off that way also.
  21. Krenzers Marina or Arny's. Krenzers is nice cause it's close to the channel and Tim and the folks there are great people. Plus the bars are close.
  22. You guys are killing me to the east. We are off Irondequoit over 230 and temp down 55 is 42.6 and can't find any warmer. We went to 350 and temp held steady. At an absolute loss as what we should do or go.
  23. The last I knew he was still there every time the flea market is open. Literally has boxes if them.
  24. Well as far as I am concerned they can go shoot as many rounds as they want, hell we all paid for them. They are the reason we are having a hard time finding .223 ammo. I would like to grab some of the brass that will be at the bottom of the lake.
  25. Jack from what I was told NK is no longer in business. They had a problem with plating and the new HD colors. I used them exclusively til last season when I heard about it. There is a guy at the Avon flea market that says he bought all there inventory and to me he has the box of spoons to prove it. It kind of sucks cause I used to go down there and hand pick my spoons and now I have to rely on a catalog to see the colors.
