I have an offset transom for the motors both being outboards like an offshore boat so it really doesn't get any interference from them but yes its is mounted way to low in my opinion and I really can't change that now without pulling the boat. So for now I will do the best I can and play with some settings to get by and in the fall when I pull the boat I will move it to where it belongs and hope for the best next season. Thanks

Yep I am just trying to level the transducer out cause that marina that goofed he install so I am just tweaking it a click at a time. I am pretty sure I can use the dual function I just need to figure it out in the manual cause the manual is worse than some of my old college books. Thanks Yankee any advice from you is well noted.I have been side by side with you many times over the years.

I hear exactly what you are saying with the angle. The marina that installed the unit put the transducer at the lowest point next to the drain plug which was wrong and I changed the angle cause it was pointing to forward so it was marking half an arch. I only use the 200khz side of the transducer cause I will be over deep water but not far enough down to where I lose any detail. I heard before about the airmar so I think I may try that for my unit and go from there and mount it where it should be. I usually do it myself but figure they are the professionals and this is what I get. Thanks

Just this spring I invested into a new Lowrance package just to keep up with the technology. In my previous boats I have always used Lowrance. For some reason this unit I have now (HDS 9 Touch) with the 50/200 transducer just doesn't seem to mark the fish the way my previous HDS 8 did with a 83/200 transducer. Maybe its me or maybe its the unit I am not sure. I have adjusted the transducer thinking it was at an angle and have changed some settings but still doesn't seem right. Or maybe its just I am not around the right size fish. Hate to spend this kind of money and think its the unit but just in case was is the general consensus on what unit works better. Thanks for any input

Bigfoot is right on the money. I have a place over on Seneca lake and noticed the same thing about 5-6 years ago. Weedlines have moved deeper and so have the smb. The biggest change recently was that they are getting bigger. The numbers have declined due to the goby population but quality has gone up tremendously. The average was maybe 2.5-3# and now its bumped up to the 3-3.5# category with the occasional 5-6# mixed in. These lakes seem to have a cycle and when the gobies got in the mix it screwed that cycle up big time. Good news is though the bigger smb and Lakers are feeding pretty good on those gobies.

I agree with the sliders but maybe its my mate but we usually end up with a mess on our hands. I run 2-0's on each one at 3 on a 10'6 rod and the other at 1.5 on a 9'6. We just seem to have that program dialed in good cause we the run surface stuff or a copper on the otters plus riggers. I usually run 8 rods but lately been doing 6. Seems less is more kind of thing for us.

I understand that these blowboats have the right away but I have an example of a blowhole on a blowboat. Tuesday I made a half stint out of Irondequoit, we are all by ourselves out in God's country before and after the storm. Out of no where this catamaran blowboat is coming straight for us. No joke I had to pull my otter on my port side in so he wouldn't get 3 of my lines. In my opinion of being on the water quite often I think they aim right at us cause we are the only thing they can see. Its happened more than once and they know there isn't anything legally we can do about it. Try hailing them on a radio, they will either answer laughing or no answer at all. I do like the paintball idea though.

well I think it's an opinion thing. Me personally it depends on what I am running behind the dipsy, spoons or flies. When I run spoons behind them I use a 20# mono leader that is anywhere between18-24" behind the dipsy. When I run flasher/fly my leader is twice the length of my board and my fly is usually 18" from board. Now when I run meat my leader is much longer usually around 30" so it gives the squids more whipping action. I use mono leaders on my dipsy's only because there is some stretch for forgiveness and it doesn't tear the hooks out of there mouths. Knock on wood I have lost one in who knows how long and I also run 4 dipsy rods every trip. Good Luck and I hope this helps you out. Tom

Yah I have tried almost all but the surface lines and weight. Green is always my color with a mix of natural colors which honestly has been producing the best for me so far. I just have to put in more time, you see I have all new gear this year right down to the boat so dialing things in is just taking me a bit longer than usual. When I was out west at the begining of spring I couldn't go wrong with anything so I am sure I will narrow it down. Thank you for the info as I will try anything out here at this point.

Well guys to say the least this has been a very interesting season so far. I have tried to the west as far as Sandy and to the east to Gonna from 100-400 fow. I have had the whole.box out there and come up with a few teeners and a lot of skippers.Today however was the most eventful being one of my copper rigs came apart at the backing so lost everything, then the rain came through just as a wire rod fired of with a 10# laker. Then it was back to skippers. I don't know what to say or do anymore very confusing out there. Water temps were 63 on top to 44 down 55. I wish I had better to report but that's all I have for now.

Well everyone I am heading out of Irondequoit and going balls out again. Heading out to deeper water been playing 100-250 and been getting the yearlings. So this time I am going 250 and out, will post again if anything happens.

I have been fishing all over Lake Ontario and finger lakes for over 25 years with family and so on.
