Co worker did 3 rd place finisher in fall LOC and placed well in other summer derbies ,has a port in fair haven . He was into fish every weekend . I'm not a derby fisher . I have moved a rod 4 times out of Mexico from June until now in 9 weekend trips . Maybe it's just I'm an amateur but it wasn't for lack of trying . We tried jigging , trolling but swimming seemed to produce the best results . Last year and 2014 we moved many more rods and less fuel Sorry , just feeling defeated there unlike other waters and species Rich

Well I did some research and it's far more expensive to seasonal dock west of Mexico . Now I'm at a crossroads . Do I stick with the Mexico port , grin and bear things or just show up for a vacation week towards end of August there or take a few trips here and there to fair haven state park which have transient docks ? I got beat down pretty hard this season . I don't make the adventure out until stripers are gone here in late May so I'm not interested in Browns that much . If we just had some action ( not looking for a fish every trip ) I could dream of next season but we had the worst of my 3 so it's getting frustrating and my wife is questioning my sanity as well as her wallet , lol Rich

As if things can't get worse. Yet to catch a mature salmon in 9 weekends and have 6 day planned starting Friday . Looked at forecast and sat-Sunday look ugly with 6-9 footers . This year went from bad to worse . Bring on the ice !!!

Was the gas tank vented ? Could be lots of things happening here . Ethanol coukd have settled into the carb and you have dirty jets, needle valve or gummed up carb . The only way is to do a disassemble on the carb. Your gaskets could be all dried out and causing an air leak . Like I said lots of possibilities , a motor that sets for that long is sure to be problematic Good luck . Rich

Nice fish . My personal best brown is a 17 # from the lake and I still prefer a photo /release Can you do a repo of a 5# ADK rainbow . That is my bingo natural fish of a lifetime out of the ausable river

sad to say as I love the folks and community but I'm pulling my boat out of Mexico and moving west next year .

That's nothing . Try the zoo in Oswego and after your blood pressure goes through the roof you'll pull up and head deep for some swimming

I think you answered the question right here , no ? some of the mounts I have seen here are gorgeous, some not so and they were done by those who thought from experiences. How do you really know until its returned if you will be satisfied. All I'm saying is I prefer a photo mount over a repo(skin included). There is no shop that can recreate it the exact same and put a background from the experience .

IMO ,and not to discourage the business . The best mount is to take many a picture , pick out the best and enlarge it , frame it and hang it on the wall . I have a bunch of poster size wildlife and outdoor scenery in my house . There are just to many bad things that can happen with a reproduction

Got a gift card incentive from my over priced health insurance so I bought more ice gear . I have a buddy heater but sometimes in the flip over its just to much . Popped on the little buddy Also I had an abu Garcia 5600 that I used and again was just a bit much so bought a c4600 that is the perfect size for jigging lakers . Hardwater can come anytime after I pull the boat off the Great Lake on sept -15 , I like hunting in cold weather as well

Yea Steve , we just couldn't take the mess. Tried from SR to past sandy yesterday to bottom hugging mud sharks and over by the ZOO near the plant today . While in the combat zone we seen fish on but we couldn't take the clueless pilots that will run straight towards and over our gear whether we went inside or outside of the combat zone . Even seen a kayak out there and gosh knows how he survived . We pulled rods last evening and went to dead water for some swimming and jigging for lakers . Still after all summer have yet to catch a mature salmon . Ah well , I will sit next weekend out as I assume it will be 10 X worse and give it one last go from sept 10-16 then pack it in for tenderloins until the hardwater sets up . Rich

Can't take combat fishing and clueless pilots . We tried and bailed for some deep water swimming . Still out here in much more peaceful solution but in 2 days , we haven't moved a rod Rich

Yes I was not talking about a portable cordless hand drill but a big ION auger when I said weight . As for the cordless hand drill attachment , we fish northern Adirondack lakes and yes the ice is 1 +' thick . 2 seasons ago it was over 2' . 50 holes when jigging and trying to locate lake trout sometimes is not uncommon , running 6 traps and various jig holes took a tool on their cordless drills . Honestly I don't remember the models but I knew they broke out the hand attachment that was a bit more difficult to use then the standard nils. As for scaring the fish , well I have seen both sides . On clear ice I watched pike stay 3-6' ahead of me as I walked along . In shallow water I can see trying to remain as quiet as possible for spooky fish such as pike . On the other side , when fishing deep water from 40-100' for lakers , yes we jig in 100 fow, it makes no difference and lakers are curious fish . Also I will fish for perch and gills in 20fow using my nils hand auger and if things slow down I drill another hole which does make noise no matter what , push ice down and it seems the panfish are also curious and the bite picks up again . Gas augers , I agree. There are cons such as the gas and fumes and I personally got rid of mine but I don't mind when my brother in law brings his along and punches a few holes for me in thick ice It's all good , it just becomes a matter of preference and how, where you fish . I had the old jiffy 30 for a long time . It was a bear to lug around , darn thing wore me out . I bought a nils 6" hand auger about 7 years ago and it's the cats meow . So 2 years ago I buy a replacement head , not that mine was dull but figured it was time .Put it on and don't you know the first time out I hit some sumerged wood . Totally ruined the head and wouldn't cut butter so back on went the original head which I'm still using going on season 8. My brother in law buys an 8" nils and wouldn't cut from the get go . He suffered through the season and spent $80.00 on a replacement head and still wouldn't cut butter. I think the shaft was defective . Threw the whole thing away and bought an Eskimo 45 cc 8" gas auger and loves it . He also got a 6" fin bore which is the same concept ( offset handle ) but with much cheaper easily replaceable blades . I love my nils but the heads ore pricy and can be hard to get as nils only makes X amount per year and when they are gone , they are gone . I would check out a fin bore. As for size , I can and have pulled 40" pike and 30" lake trout through my 6" hole . The downside with a 6" hole is running tip-ups and the hole getting smaller if you don't keep them clear often . An 8" is a little more forgiving when they start freezing fast . The upside with a 6" is it requires less effort to cut and sometimes thick ice is chore with an 8" auger . Personally I would avoid the electric drill model . I have been with friends that carry 2 batteries , have burned out their drills and trashed them in the snow. It's just an extra piece of gear to carry as well as expense IMO . If I were to go that route I would just get a lightweight gas auger . Avoid the propane models as well, I have seen them ice up and not run as well as carrying extra propane . The electric Ion augers are heavy and I'd pass on them as well. Good luck and happy fishing . Shappell were USA made . They have since sold out to eagle claw so I don't know the status .

I have 4 flip overs and 2 pop ups as well as fish with many friends that have various others . My favorite flip that I own is a shappell fx 100 for ease of transport , space and price . My Eskimo quick flip 1 flip over is JUNK . Shappell fx 150 is super heavy and rarely used . Friends clam 2 person flips are again super heavy and over priced IMO . My pop ups are made by kill zone ( ice ) and great value as well as dual purpose for hunting . Eskimo and clam turned me off
