Just had an unbelievable summer fishing walleyes in the river. One of the reasons I concentrated on them was the lack of an early season perch bite for me. My partners and I couldn't buy a good day in our best spots. They finally concentrated on northerns and I on the eyes. Hoping the fall turns around because as the days cool off I'd rather fish earlier in the day vs my evening walleye fishing. From what I've heard, I'm not the only one who just couldn't find them this year. Has anyone had any luck on the river lately? Thanks, Gene

Have a lifelong friend coming up for a couple fishing trips and I wanted to be sure I would still find evening fish. Had no intention of keeping fish today, just scouting. Ran into a couple guys on a favorite spot so I headed downriver to another good spot. Never had a strike in a few passes so headed back upriver. Roybee was still there and we fished the same run for about an hour. We both hit them hard. I released 29-27-27-25-22-21. At one point he had a double on his riggers and I had one on my bottom bouncer at the same time! Can't believe fishing is still this good. Water temp has dropped 5 degrees to about 68.

Had a good morning today and brought home three. 24, 25 and 26 inches. Threw back 2 and lost one. At that length an inch makes a big difference in the weight of the fish. I decided to get the scale out and they weighed within an ounce or two of 4, 5 and 6 pounds respectively. That's pretty typical of our St Lawrence fish and I was wondering how that compared to other guy's bodies of water? I sometimes think our pictures don't do our fish justice.

Esox..my spots are sort of compact, except for one. If I give it three good trys, where I know I've been in the range, speeds been right and my lure wasn't fouled, I move on. When I take guys, they have a tendency to drag lures longer than me. Im constantly checking that I'm on bottom and reeling up to clean gear off. When you really get to know a spot, you know when you should pull up and when you absolutely should be down, clean and in the zone. As for sharing info, had it not been for this forum I'd never have had the summer I've had. There's lots of fish to work and plenty of good area to find them on.

Back on the water tonight. Put two nice ones in the box first two passes on a run 40 yds long! Next pass a short one. All in the first 20 minutes before dark. Then prime time and everything goes to ****! Lose control of the boat and hang my stern light up on an overhanging branch. Bent but still working. (yes, fishing that close to shore} Next fish another shortie that takes a flop and burries all three trebles in a towel. In the tackle box for another lure and fish another 45 minutes without a tap. Move to another spot and hit number three first pass there, All in all, a 23,22, and 21....two throwbacks.....one lost and great to be out again!
