Mexico bay action?
greenhornet73 replied to Tribetroller's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I was on Oneida last week and it appeared a big hatch was on the verge and the walleyes wanted a slooow presentation and not on an aggressive blade bait bite, probably still the case even more now. Still haven’t been on Ontario yet, still waiting to get the kicker installed before I make that trip. Hopefully there is still some sort of bite within 200’ by the time I get out there. -
Mexico bay action?

Since COVID I think most have stopped posting success on social media because of the heavy fishing pressure on certain popular locations. It’s just the reality of the situation. -
Successful morning of laker trolling
greenhornet73 replied to greenhornet73's topic in Fishing Videos
Thanks, it took some trial and error but it all comes together occasionally. -
My second video and still learning how to edit. How do you change the order of the frames with a GoPro? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Io_N0LCuBXI

I finally put my trolling gear away and had my first Oneida outing this morning. Picked away at them all morning including huge sunnies, perch, smallies, sheep and ‘eyes. Water was pretty dark and shallow, looked like August but there were lots of tiny white worms swimming just under the surface. One was even burrowed into one of the perch’s dorsal fin that I caught. Nasty looking little things that made me not want to swim in there anymore in fear of them crawling into small spaces…… are these bug larvae about to hatch?

A cast iron pan or a non-stick oven proof frying pan will work for this. (I have only used store bought and not Lake O salmon for this recipe) Ingredients: 2 Tbs butter sea salt or kosher salt (definitely use a generous sprinkle but not coated either) fresh ground pepper garlic powder or minced garlic light sprinkle of Cayenne pepper Pinch of dill weed salmon fillet with skin on- very important -preheat oven at 400 -preheat frying pan on med high with butter -rinse salmon and pat dry -season meat side of fillet with all above ingredients -when butter is bubbling, add fillet meat side Down onto pan -spoon some of the melted butter over the top of skin -add a light drizzle of olive oil to pan around the fish to keep liquid from burning off -let salmon cook on stove about 3 or 4 minutes until you see meat cooking along the bottom edges Do not flip fish- take pan and place in the oven and let bake for 15 minutes -Remove pan and flip fish when you plate it so meat side is up. You will have a perfectly golden crispy crust over the top of your fillet. Add a lemon wedge and fresh parsley on top and you just turned a $40 plate into an every day meal.

I am still looking for one for my port side. How long are the booms on yours? The one I have was given to me with a 24” boom that just clears my prop but I cannot find another longer than 18”. I would definitely be interested in one of yours either way. I live in Syracuse but if you are out of driving distance would you consider shipping it? Let me know, thanks for reaching out. Chris -

Wow, healthy looking fish! I was up last weekend and was only able to get a small pike and a few nice smallmouths to hit along a deep drop- off with jigs. Once I find a good walleye area near camp I want to try fishing at night for them. Still learning my way around up there but hopefully will some day get into some fish like that.

This morning I took the cables off and put them on again and it now runs perfectly. 🙌

I purchased a new control box and installed it today for my Mercury 2 stroke and the gears are not right. I installed everything exactly how the last one was set up but now it doesn’t go into forward gear unless I press the neutral throttle button and it doesn’t engage in reverse at all. Could it be the throttle and shift cables need to be reversed or that the gears become misaligned during the switch? I really don’t want to bring it to the shop and lose my boat for half the summer after I just lost it for 3 weeks to replace the trim switch.

There used to be a guy on Craigslist that would take used boats at no cost. I think he dismantled them and sold the parts but I gave him one that was basically unsalvageable years ago .

Good value musky rod
greenhornet73 replied to greenhornet73's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I have a Gander Mountain IM6 8’ Musky rod I bought on clearance years ago when it was closing down for around $40 and it works awesome for jigging striped bass and bluefish but haven’t tried casting with it. It has awesome backbone but very little tip action unless under a decent load. Does a good casting rod have a little softer tip or not necessarily? -
Could also be a reaction bite and not necessarily looking for an easy meal.

I do not do a lot of musky fishing but when I’m at my friends camp on the SLR I have been trying my hand at some casting. My 6’ MH casting rod isn’t cutting it for my 1oz spinners and large crank baits. What are some decent rods for under $100? I am thinking heavy action and maybe 7-7 1/2’ to pair up with my Piscifun Alijoz 300. Any recommendations would be great, thank you.

The trout opener has always been April 1st, I don’t see why other species need to open on a Saturday. It does stink to have to work on openers or take a day off but not everyone has Saturdays off. More incentive to retire early I say. 👍🏽

If it has a 24” boom or longer and is in good shape, take a couple pics of them and dm me. Thanks! -
This is one of my trips last summer on cape cod and the rental company delivered right to my beach house and came and picked it up at the end of the week before I left. That’s the way to go, no fuss. Caught 13 of these one day on a hot bite until this one swallowed my circle hook so I towed it in and called it a morning.

That sounds promising. My Merc is 84 pounds and I feel like I am pulling 75 of it on my own with 2 fingers which one is currently infected so it really concerned me in the chance of not being in perfect physical health. Slim chance, something always hurts. The wide handle on the panther alone along with any additional help the springs give will be worth the switch. Thank you for sharing your experience with the 2 models, it pointed out the exact concerns I was debating over.

I know that bracket seems like overkill for such a light motor but am just concerned about all these warnings online about trailering with the motor on these scissor mounts. I trailer my boat everywhere and will be using one strap if not 2 when on the road. The 407AL has the same specs as the Hoffen I currently have mounted but the handles suck and it takes more effort than I’d like to pull it up out of the water. How does yours do pulling it up? I’m definitely more excited about the lighter versions price…..already calculating what else I can buy with the saved money I haven’t even spent yet.
