  1. Haha Whaler, looks like you’re in my backyard!
  2. True story. There are times I suppose that steering ability may be necessary with the kicker.
  3. I will have to try that this season with a thinner rubber lining. I tried using a thicker rubber and electrical tape and neither held firmly.
  4. Wow, I haven’t seen that or maybe it didn’t click when I saw it. Looks like it would work if I opted not to use the tiller for steering since the handle is on the port side of the motor where it would hit the storage compartment. I am going to try an adjustable kicker bracket but if that doesn’t work out that just maybe my plan B. Thank you!
  5. How long of an extension is that?
  6. Hopefully I’m not overthinking it and it will be more basic of an install
  7. Nice, I guess I’m not too worried about turning with it while trolling since I will usually be using my minn kota auto pilot at thebow with a remote to keep me on course and make turns. Just want to be able to reach the handle to change speed or make quick changes in direction if need be. I’m hoping if I use a kicker bracket I can keep the motor high enough to reach the pull chord and still have the ventilation plate below the hull. When I get home I’ll make some measurements.
  8. Thanks Sherman, I will take you up on that if I decide to go that route!
  9. Wow, what a trip! I’ve had days like that. At least you got some fish and more importantly made it back to the launch safely. Could have been worse.
  10. Interesting idea. That just might work if it can be shortened up a little so I could reach the tiller handle or put an extension on it. I’d also have to make sure the lower unit is still low enough below the hull.
  11. There is enough room to mount it next to the main motor but the steering rod looks like it will totally be in the way. I will have a friend of mine help me to see if we can get it to sit right otherwise I may end up dropping it on the ground if it doesn’t sit right on. I would be ready to fish this weekend but I’m not too hopeful it will be that easy.
  12. Just picked up a 2014 Merc 9.9 and now have to figure where/ how to mount it on my limited transom space. I’ve seen a few pictures of my boat pictured online with kickers but not close up enough to see how they did it. I have a manual pull w/ tiller handle model and thinking I may have to use an EZ-steer since the handle will probably not be able to extend over the top of the transom. The boat is a Sea Ray Laguna18. Any recommendations or thoughts?
  13. Wow, that’s a great spread of spoons for someone that needs an instant arsenal of spoons for salmon fishing.
  14. Looks like a sweet setup for Oneida and the finger lakes
  15. Are you possibly talking about Cayuga lake? Or maybe Kayuta lake in Remson?
  16. I know this is an old thread but for others that are curious there is something about hunting on the second most polluted body of water behind Chernobyl just might keep some sportsmen off, just sayin’.
  17. I’m ready! I missed my first shot at a giant Tom last spring and it’s still haunting me. Also reminds me, if anyone has some good wild turkey recipes please post them in the Fish and Game Recipe section.
  18. I have been using this one for a couple years since I suddenly became gluten intolerant and GF fried fish Wasn’t even close to the real thing until now. You can use this with any type of flour. - Use your favorite beer batter recipe, even gluten- free if need be (I use Sportsman’s Warehouse GF beer batter for convenience), and substitute the beer with green, addictive carbonated crack (Mountain Dew). You will not regret it. -I believe the high sugar content in the soda causes it to caramelize as it’s frying and gives the fish coating a little extra texture. (Think extra cheese that ran onto the pizza pan and fried that everyone fights over after) You could probably substitute any soda but once I tried this I was pleased enough to not tamper with it. Please let me know what you all think and please feel free to toss some gluten free recipes up here! My scratch batter mix: 1 cup flour (or GF flour) -I use King Arthur’s Measure for Measure GF flour 1/2 cup corn meal 1/2- 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper -dump 1/3 of the mix into a zip lock bag with fish. Dredge & let sit in refrigerator or on the counter for at least a half hour still in the bag. - put remaining 2/3 dry flour mix in mixing bowl with enough Mountain Dew to make a thick pancake batter consistency. The batter should slowly drip off fish but not run off when dipped. - dip fish in batter and deep fry or pan fry on stove with just enough vegetable oil to cover fish. It should be golden brown within 3 minutes or turn up the heat. Fry on each side until golden brown. -Enjoy * Warning: You may never go back to beer batter after this
  19. Looks nice, I think you will like them there. I did the same thing but the only problem I have with mine is that I cannot get them to lock down tight enough so they shift on the tubing as I reel the boards in.
  20. Thanks guys, it seems the single cylinder is my issue with the smaller motors so I will definitely focus on finding an 8 or maybe a 9 hp if I can find a good deal close by.
  21. I am looking at kicker motors for my 18’ sea ray cc and like the 4 stroke 6 hp in terms of reduced weight on the transom but am not impressed with the noise and vibration level of all the models I have researched. The 8 hp seems to have the best reputation from what I’ve heard. I am trying to stay below a $2,000 budget and not many used 8 hp’s around so thinking a new 6 hp is my only option. What models are you guys using for trolling?
  22. Beware if they tell you to make your PayPal payment to them through “ friends and family”. That protects them from having to give you your money back or canceling your payment.
  23. Nice fish! I was thinking about going out in front of the SR today but ended perch fishing instead. Maybe next weekend
  24. Actually probably more like 9”, depends on which ruler I’m using🤫
  25. Hey Clark, what is the distance from the water level to the bottom of your transom cut out? Looks like it could handle some waves. My bay boat is probably only 12” so I have to be very aware of wind direction and boat position or I my bilge gets busy
