  1. Hate when that happens. Try running the f/f just off bottom on the rigger to stir them up and have spoons off the dipseys? Good luck, should be a nice morning. I’m heading out for walleyes.
  2. Awesome you were able to get out. Wind looks good for tomorrow too. Good luck, I hope you get a lot of bites.
  3. That’s awesome. I used to jig for them every winter when there was ice off of Buck point and never had luck but would push out further and get lakers every time on tip up’s.
  4. I thought you guys were pulling my leg about no LS in there so I made the crack about the walleyes thinking you were trying to keep it on the DL 😉
  5. Yeah, the stocking for both ended in the early 2000’s I believe but the walleyes are still around and reproducing on their own but I thought landlocked were still an occasional catch, too. I had something take a rip on my leadcore with a scatter rap down about 15’ over 100’ and spooled me down to 2 or 3 cranks of the trolling reel before it lept and shook the hook. I assumed it was a salmon because I never had a rainbow or brown run like that on the hit. I guess I would feel better if I knew it wasn’t a unicorn landlock.
  6. I may be wrong but I thought the digitroll could be set to self adjust to stay off of bottom by whatever distance it was set to, I could be confusing it with a different model. That would have been great for me since I often fish alone which is why I was hopeful to get it working. I’m assuming the ones that do that now are the pricier ones over $1,000?
  7. I haven’t trolled a lot up there and also don’t have a fish hawk but it has been helpful to watch other boats trolling direction and try to fish the same speed from a distance and remember those speeds in each direction before I venture off away from the pack. You’ll notice a pattern with your DR cables and dipsey rod bends after a while to get a rough idea of down speed. Those currents can be crazy down there.
  8. Ahh thanks, wow didn’t realize this was that old. Screen doesn’t look like it but also could have been stored in someone’s basement for who knows how long. I emailed fish307 but now sounds like this DR will have to be replaced.
  9. Thank you Jim. Since you had the same model I am wondering if the toggle switch on the front was an add-on because the display wasn’t working or if yours had it as well? It would be nice to have them both operational so if the screen stopped working like yours did I can still use the toggle to winch up the ball.
  10. Thank you I’ll check with them. I’m finding that those LCD displays are very hard to find new now and when I Don see them they are used and not always in working condition. Thanks again, hopefully I can get good news.
  11. I have an older Cannon Mag10A with a LCD display that has been disconnected from the inside of the housing. I bought it used like this and am wondering if this can be replaced? The toggle switch functions fine raising and lowering the ball but would like to get it back in full working condition if possible.
  12. Gotta love it, you never know when it’s going to happen but glad it finally did for you. Can’t wait to get up there myself. My lost landlock from last weekend on Owasco keeps calling me but if I can get up on the big lake soon it would be great.
  13. Also with your 90hp you shouldn’t need trolling bags. My boat is a 17.6’ with a 115 merc 2 stroke and it trolls down to 2.0-2.1 at the slowest which isn’t always great for walleyes but just fine for Lake O.
  14. I can’t recommend bearing buddies enough. After having a bearing blow on the road a few years ago I top them off every spring and again late summer. Depending on your graph draw you may want to run a separate battery for your riggers. If you were able to run it all day before on one battery you should be fine but with my Hummingbird Helix it pushes my battery to the limit after 6 hours even if I troll with my main motor for a while to give it charge. I run 3 batteries with 1 just for my electric trolling motor. That’s my 2cents anyway.
  15. I used to use my paddle back in the day 😉 but I’m hoping to start out in deeper water to get my wife on some steel or maybe a fresh salmon. We’ll slide in tighter if it doesn’t go as hoped.
  16. It must be hard to measure accurately without laying it all out and reeling it in since the rpm’s increase as the wire comes off the spool.
  17. What vhf channel are guys on while out there?
  18. Awesome, definitely worth the trip. Never seem to know what the water will look like until you’re on it. Got all my rods and gear organized and ready to roll as soon as my wife wants to get out there.
  19. I was thinking about that too and just running it much further back than the cheater above it. The f/f could be run on one or both of my outside dipseys
  20. Interesting concept, I like it. I have also seen guys run rotators off the ball ahead of the leader as well. I guess I was hoping to have an extra lure in the water but if a salmon is excited enough to come to a flasher, a close running spoon will hopefully seal the deal. Thanks for the input
  21. Thanks sk8man, I figured it wouldn’t be a good idea but trying to figure out a way to run a flasher tight and run a spoon further back I the general vicinity to temp a disengaged fish. I run dipseys off each side with the one downrigger deep
  22. I have a similar question regarding this. I only have one downrigger for now and would like to run a f/f deep as an attractor and stack a spoon directly above it. If I run the f/f say 20’ back and a stacked rod with a spoon 10’ above it and 40’ back am I asking for trouble if that f/f gets hit since it has a shorter lead? I used to run this pattern in my other boat but with 2 downriggers and did well.
  23. Did the coppers only fire in the afternoon?
  24. Those shallow stagers are tough. Id go deep if you can get out there.
