  1. Nah, just add 5 lbs to compensate for blood and water loss 🤫
  2. I slice the gills but then drag them off the side of the boat on a rope to keep the blood off the deck. Then right on ice until they hit the dock
  3. That’s crazy, I can’t buy a fish after two trips out this season. Wasn’t marking them either though so I guess you can’t catch them if you don’t find them first
  4. Wow nice job! Did you run any spoons or all ff/ and meat?
  5. Are they still in the 150’ range?
  6. Yep, you can add a little plain salt to the brine if you want it firmer but I didn’t have any and it worked fine
  7. I used it last weekend. I cut it and brined it in Pautzke natural brine for 24 hours and it firmed up nice and held in the bait head very well. It didn’t take any strikes that day but I was at least impressed with how well it held up for what that’s worth
  8. From what I understand glow lures work best under low light conditions when they are able to actually glow where as UV lures reflect light rather than absorb it to make them brighter whenever light is present.
  9. I don’t have shark weights but they are fish shaped so I figured they would be more aerodynamic. The current may have played a role too but I was also trolling faster than my usual walleye speed
  10. That’s a good point too. I did take that into account this spring and measured the transducer to be 18” below the actual waterline.
  11. Exactly. One chart I read suggested when I had 100’ out I was only running 75’ down. Ouch
  12. I have only been using downriggers for 2 seasons now and haven’t been as successful as i hoped. After trolling for kings this past Sunday I noticed the blowback had to be close to a 45* angle with flashers and 2.8 mph troll and knew my set couldn’t be running as deep as I wanted. I just googled it and found a few charts and looks like I haven’t been even close to the depths I wanted to target. I’m using 10lb balls since I have manual crank DR’s. When you guys are setting your riggers are you compensating by letting out more cable to get to that targeted depth? Trying to figure out why I suck so bad when the bite is supposedly hot and I’m getting skunked
  13. Haven’t tried yet but have heard spoons run behind dipseys is a productive option
  14. I agree. I was hoping to try Shackleton and cast around unless they are deep
  15. Is anyone having luck jigging out there with blades or jigs still or are harnesses doing best? Taking my dad out Saturday and he hasn’t caught a walleye in 30 years. Trying to get him back into fishing as a retirement hobby
  16. Yep, I always use a Palomar knot for my fluoro leaders no matter how heavy the #test. For mono I Usually use an improved clinch knot with a double loop at the eye with 5 twists for light line under 15# and 4 twists for anything heavier. I don’t remember the last time I had a break off at the knot.
  17. Sorry to hear, I thought that stuff just happened to me. Just yesterday my kicker mount was stuck so had to troll with my main motor. Plugs fouled as usual and had to ride 6 miles in at 6 mph.always something
  18. Still out here, same with very few marks but no takers
  19. Can’t believe it but after all this time finally have a day off tomorrow to fish FH for the first time this year. Probably going to run a combination of the hot baits of last summer and try out a deep meat rig
  20. Looks closer than SR. I’d guess mexico
  21. I use #10 spro swivels to connect my 8’ leader (just short of rod length) to the mainline then a 45# rated duolock snap at the spoon end. So far so good. I use heavier hardware for ff and dipsey set ups
  22. I saw the same yesterday. Lots of fish marked in the 100-115 range. No takes during a short trip but turned out 3 lines were wadded together after the wind spun us around shortly after I had set the lines 😳
  23. Wow we’ll done, beautiful fish! Thanks for reporting
