So what happens to the pinned cheater when you reel in a fish on the bottom lure. Will the rubber band just break off at the tip and the cheater slides down?
I am having a hard time keeping my offshore releases from false releasing my spoons on my stackers. Would I be better off just using cheaters on each rigger rod or is the hookup percentage pretty poor that way? Also wondering if 8-10’ is a standard cheater length or if longer is a bad idea. I will probably invest in a couple chamberlains for next year since they sound more reliable with heavier baits.
WalleyeKen I have caught a few walleyes pulling my harnesses along the drop offs with bottom bouncers on the east and west sides of the lake but most have been caught trolling deep diver cranks. I’m not the one to ask though about catching them consistently since I’m still trying to figure them out here myself. It’s not like fishing Oneida that’s for sure
Today I went for a late afternoon troll. 2 quick releases on the rigger and a miss on the planer board. My landing percentage has been terrible this year. I also lost my planer board just out from the launch and it was too dark to spot it. If anyone happens to find it I would be very grateful!
Have a safe trip Baller. Hope the lake lays down for ya. I’ll be out Sunday- Tuesday trying to get my first one in the boat. Let me know how you do and I’ll do the same
Ocean caught (not farm raised) salmon is a staple in our house. It would be great if the same recipes would work well for lake salmon and get me more fishing passes from my wife. A win -win all around
Thanks for the input! Gambler that is exactly how I prepare bluefish and mackerel right on the beach and it makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for the recipe, it helps to know a tried and true method. Hopefully I’ll get to land some over the weekend while I’m at camp by Henderson and give it a try on the grill
I am just starting out salmon trolling this year and am curious since I have tried numerous “fresh” salmon during the early fall run and found it is only palatable smoked. Is lake caught salmon all that much better and worth the preparation for a family dinner? I’d like to hear some thoughts on this and maybe get some favorite recipes since they are so much fun to catch.
Very helpful to know thanks. My boat handles the waves well but the waves coming over the transom is what I have to watch out for although it drains right back out
How high do the winds have to be from the North to make it uncomfortable out there? I’m hoping to try on Saturday and as of now the forcast says 6mph from the north. If that stays true it shouldnt be too choppy for my 19’ should it?
I hope we can find some tomorrow morning. Going to take my wife out for her first salmon trip if we can get a sitter for the kids. Hopefully they are still in fairly close
Blue bird sky here in Syracuse so far today. How is the wind and weather by Fair Haven? Planning to get up there by 1:30 if the storms stay away for a few hours.
