  1. Ok, here it is. It is finally time to venture beyond my kayaks limits and take the new boat off-shore tomorrow. Would anybody like to offer any advice on a starting point as far as depth and about how far from the chute it is? Being my first time beyond 1/2 mile out I don’t want to get too far away from my starting point. Planning to run 2 downriggers stacked with 200’ max of cable and 1 Dipsy Rod in my 19’ CC. Any advice would help greatly, thanks
  2. Wow that brown is a football compared to the one we got last night. It was slender but healthy besides the bite wound right behind its head
  3. Great, thanks for the info. I’ll have to get in touch with Shane about the t-top. Just got back from the lake after a 3 hour troll with my friend and his son who don’t fish much. Dropped two heavy fish in mid fight, the second may have been a musky or a huge eye since we didn’t gain much line during the 3 minute tug of war that hit 28 feet down over 63’ on the rigger. Both heavy hits came on the same stacker and had a couple quick releases as well. I just set the lines and drove the boat and let them reel up all the hits. I did grab one planer board hit and landed a 14” brown on a rapala. Can’t wait to get back out there and land some.
  4. It came with a sweet t-top but I need to find someone that can weld aluminum before I can bolt it back on. It was docked on Fire Island and at low tide it keeled on its side and bent 2 middle sections of the uprights
  5. It’s a 1999 19’ with 2003 2-stroke 130 Yamaha
  6. Thanks, it’s been my project this year getting it outfitted and finally running like it should. Just have to get a drift sock or 2 to keep that 130 at a nice trolling speed. It does not like to run steady on slow idle without coughing
  7. Nice, you make it sounds too easy. It definitely needs to go down a couple more feet but at least my tailpipe isn’t underwater at the launch anymore
  8. Nice to be able to feel the fight from a quality fish like that on a lightweight rod rather than a broomstick trolling rod
  9. Awesome, very nice. At some point I hope to have some quality gear like that but still building my arsenal. Just finished rigging up my 5th trolling rod, a wire Dipsy setup. I also got a few of the lures you suggested and hope to do a shakedown run on Otisco this week before I hit the big O. I’d love to get a couple of those eyes trolling without spinning a kayak around and tangling up lines this time haha
  10. Wow that’s impressive. I’m not a fan of the quality of Michigan Stingers but that’s all I’ve ever trolled with and they work well but sounds like I need to broaden my brand selection. Do you use wire leaders or just heavy fluoro leaders
  11. Those jr silver streaks are the little guys right? I have a bunch of Stingers for browns on Ontario but a few Scorpions which are 2 1/2”, wow they look small for Otisco though?! Are the fish spooky? Wondering how far behind the ball I should set the closest lines
  12. Awesome, thanks so much Justin for the report!
  13. How’s the fishing been out there? I haven’t been to Otisco for 3 weeks but hoping to try out my new downriggers today before I hit Ontario. I have never been able to try spoons for walleyes here but would like to throw a couple into the mix to see how they do. Any color guidelines to follow or does it change by the day?
  14. I have also caught them on soft imitation eggs with my fly rod. Lots of fun but may require a forearm brace once you’re through
  15. This is a long shot but I lost a planer board to the wind last Monday night on the East side just north of the rip rap by the marina. Please give me a shout if someone finds it
  16. Nope the kayak hasnt left the rafters yet this year, not sure that it will now that I have a boat. They are fun the get in the kayak, of course any fish is but my shoulders aren’t what they used to be
  17. Yep floating raps with a quick twitch at first to get their attention, then a slow crawl
  18. Finally got out for my first night of walleye fishing last night and did very well in 3 hours of fishing. Started off jigging up 2 tank small mouths then switched to top waters at dusk for walleyes. Went 4 for 7 after missing the first few light biters before they were finally ready to commit. Biggest was 26” and smallest was 22” and all went for bright colors crawled on top in very stained, high water. Lots of debris in the water so boaters beware.
  19. X2! I just got my boat back yesterday and need to do a little trailer work before I can take it out. You won’t be seeing the little red kayak trolling out there this year
  20. I like the idea of having a back up just in case, just not sure if there is room on the transom for a kicker. I may start off with trolling bags and in the meantime talk to the mechanic about mounting options, thanks guys
  21. Yep, off of any of the piers especially if there is a north wind
  22. I have J-11 and J-9’s, which ones are the preferred size?
  23. Hey guys, wonder if any of you have this motor? I recently bought a 2003 on a 19’ sea pro (Fiberglas CC) and wondering if it’s going to troll down to 2 mph or so or will I need to install my kicker? Haven’t run it yet and having it looked over by a mechanic, may be a couple weeks before I get it back.
  24. It never got hooked but the teeth got caught up in the egg sac mesh which is how I landed it
  25. Can’t say for sure what year but between the range of late ‘90’s and before 2005 since I haven’t done much steelhead fishing since then. Even at such a young stage, the markings clearly looked to be a musky to me. I have caught many northerns in the estuary but haven’t heard of any muskies caught in that area but seems like all the habitat they would need are present there.
