  1. Never caught an adult but did catch a musky fry about 5” on an egg sac at the trestle pool years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the lower river but was really surprised to catch one that far upstream
  2. LB, I still have the yak but my shoulders started feeling their age last year so I placed a bid on ebay and ended up with a boat lol. Just dropped it off at the marina to have it tuned up and ready to go for spring Browns with fingers crossed
  3. I am getting my boat ready for ice out and apparently still have some time before I need it finished. I bought a couple Walker downriggers from Craigslist and am trying to find mounts for them so I can remove them when not in use, especially on the ladder side for when the kids want to go tubing. Does anyone have walker’s and know what I can use for mounts?
  4. Thanks everyone, I went ahead and had one reel spoiled with 30# BG and will save the other for a wire set up. LB, I like the braid idea at the terminal end to avoid kinks.
  5. Great thanks for your input! My next question is since my reels are Okuma 30’s will 250 yards of 30# be enough since that is probably the max that they will hold
  6. Hey guys, I have upgraded the fishing kayak to a boat this year and am putting together a couple more outfits to add to my trolling arsenal. I have two new rod/ reel combos that can handle over 300 yards of 20# mono. I have been told not to use braid, which is already on my walleye and brown trout rods, for salmon rods. I would still like to use these new rods for walleye and trout but would just add long leaders of lighter line. What brand and # line do you guys suggest for dipseys and downriggers?
  7. Yeah tell me about it, I’m actually a little stressed out trying to fit in all the species I can in only a couple months time. I have to remind myself that a couple solid trips is more enjoyable than a bunch of run and gun empty handed missions that just waste time and gas and piss off the wife
  8. Yeah they looked too silver to be within 40’ which is when I usually start for them with the yak without downriggers. Right now I’m tying porgie rigs and clousers for the false albicore run that is finally starting
  9. Nice job, you’re doing well out there. I know it’s not easy dragging multiple lines and fighting a fish while keeping the boat on course, well done! How deep were you trolling out there? I’m hoping to get one trip of inshore trolling before the big runs begin
  10. I was expecting that comment Lucky 13 and cant say I don't question it myself at times
  11. Haha imagine the looks I get in the yak when I fish the “trench” in 120’ on a calm day out in front of camp and hooked up on a fish. Doesnt matter if I’m in 7’ of water or 140’, that vest doesn’t come off regardless of the temps.
  12. Nice job baller! I wont be able to get out there again until late september after I get back from striper fishing in the Sound. You may not recognize me next year, it looks like I will be upgrading to something with a motor, sadly these shoulders are starting to feel their age
  13. wow nice fish! i wasnt able to get out to the trench all weekend with the kayak, the wind was a little too much but when it layed down yesterday afternoon my arms were no longer up for the long haul so ended up fishing smallmouths for the afternoon. Quite a few boats out there yesterday, gonna have to wait until they move in now and pick on the dark ones.
  14. thanks, very helpful info. I have all Ted 9’s since my 11 is one that doesn’t rattle. For harnesses I will switch to inline weights and try for the suspended fish. Thanks!
  15. on a side note, do you ever have issues with the TDD's? I have 6 or 7 of them and but only 3 of them have rattled out of the box and the paint bubbled up on 2 of the ones that don't rattle. I contacted Rapala and they wouldn't do anything about it without a receipt.
  16. I'm running 36" harnesses off 2 oz bottom bouncers on bottom. I never tried suspending them, not sure if that would work or not. I use the Rap TDD's in the color you told me and when they work they really work just not really often. I run them with 30# braid and a 10' leader of 15# fluoro with 100 - 120' of line out between the 2 rods off the kayak.
  17. Nice job Justin, I was out there Sunday night trolling the East shore but couldn't get anything else but silver bass to bite the harnesses. Did get some nice marks 20-30 down in 40'+ so switched to deep cranks and no luck. I've been struggling on the little "O" this year and may have to try Oneida for the next outing. Keep up the good work, you keep me confident that there are still walleyes in that lake

  19. I believe the one caught last summer out of Oswego by a salmon fisherman was a 50"+ class fish. Obviously was not being targeted but proof that they are out there. I had a good sized one chase my spinnerbait to the canoe years ago in blind sodus bay and also caught a 6" fry on an eggsac one spring steelhead fishing in the SR
  20. i haven't been there in a few years but used to fish for pike at the start of the season in Sodus Bay launching by the bridge from the bait shop and did really well using topwaters and subsurface lures along the weedlines and am sure you would connect often with deceivers or other pike flies.
  21. That's a nice one Justin, that fish is hefty! My fattest 'eye out there was 26" 10 lbs over 20 years ago now. Last week's catfish was my biggest catch out there trolling after 2 outings for the year. Might try to get the kayak out this evening if the weather cooperates. Last weekend had a tiger swim a circle around me staring me down, always love to see them do that with their head right out of the water
  22. There are plenty of good pike fishing spots around here including any of the lake ontario bays along the south shore in the eastern basin
  23. that's awesome. love getting into fish in the kayak without any others around.
