i trolled from selkirk to the SR and back 3 times sunday from 40' to 13' and didnt get a hit or see any jumps the whole morning.

I have a NK magnum spoon in Natural born killer I was thinking of running behind a green jet diver on 1 rod and maybe a hot color hot shot 35 straight lined on the other rod to start with at least. I have a fish finder on the kayak so I will have to see what depth I'm getting the most marks at and go from there.

I would love to get a salmon out of my kayak this season. i hope the wind is down on sunday so i can try. are hot shot 35s too small or should i troll with something bigger? this is my first year trolling for salmon and still learning.

i fished the mouth of grindstone last night a little with no luck. could have actually taken the kayak since i have been in much worse with no problem

Scratch that plan, 14mph winds tomorrow and unless it slows down to half that by late afternoon I will be forced to fish from the pier.

Awesome, weather permitting I will be out there in my kayak tomorrow afternoon hoping to get a rod to fire. How far down do I need to get my lures? I have a jet diver 40 to run a spoon and probably will run a plug on the other rod.

Wow nice job. I have been blanked my last 3 trips out with 2 morning trips and a dusk trip this past monday. Marked a ton of fish along the drop- offs along the East shore from 38'- 44' but haven't had a single hit trolling about 2.5- 3 mph gps speed. Looks like sunday I'll have to push out a little deeper. One thing I do know about this lake is to be persistent even if you have a bunch of slow outings. I am running a 6' leader of 15# fluoro- coated P Line off of braided main line but can't see the fish being line shy with the water being the color it is? I was complaining about only smallmouths a few weeks ago and now would gladly hook up with them all morning long!

Good info, at least I know I was on the right track just not getting them to bite. I have been completely guessing with my paddling speed but just sold both my fish finders last night on ebay so I can order a Lowrance Mark 4 Chirp that will take the guesswork out for me at least. Good luck over the weekend, I'll probably be fishing along shore on Sunday since my kayak is electronicless for now. Tuesday morning I trolled the South West and East shores and straight up the deep hole at the southern end with nothing but 2 large rock bass to show for it.

Nice, that was just last week? Was it a tiger or a purebred?

Wow 20 minutes is impressive to say the least! Great fish to catch whether they are 30" or 50" but the rarity of the catch is what makes them such a prize. I still think if I got one that big I would have a fiberglass replica made and let it go considering how old a purebred like that must be, I'm guessing 25 y/o? Maybe 20 for a tiger since hybrids grow faster?

Does anyone know what depth the thermocline is set up on otisco lately? I am marking most fish at 10' and a few 30' down over 40'-50' but not sure how well my old fish finder is working since it was also marking a pretty steady line at 10' down for very long stretches. Could have been bait but isn't that usually the reason for fishing the thermocline since that is where the water temp break is?

I personally agree with the 40" limit. In my opinion the only reason to keep one of these fish would be for a wall mount since they are not much for table fare. I caught a 46" purebred muskie in Ontario, Canada a few years ago and released it since it wasn't 50" and that is still my goal to this day and may likely never reach it but that's what keeps me going back!

I know it, it was so close to 40". Been doing pretty well this year for my first year with the kayak but still haven't gotten any walleyes trolling there yet. Was that you out by Lader's Sunday morning around 6:30 AM? There was a nice rig out there trolling and I thought it might be you. If it was, that was me doing the one handed paddle to shore with the muskie in my net hung over the side haha. I love the looks of that area but never have been able to fish it until this year. Would probably be a good ice fishing spot if I could figure out how to get over there without hiking across the lake.

I went out this morning and trolled between 45 and 50 FOW for walleyes and saw a couple large marks about 10' down and only picked up one smallmouth deep. Decided to take a break from paddling and moved into shore and threw out a big spinnerbait and on the 3rd cast Wham.....felt like a nice bass hit and reeled it in to about 20' from the kayak when suddenly the fish turned around after it realized it was hooked as I realized it wasn't a bass and hung on for a long fight.....a 38" Tiger is now the biggest fish my kayak has seen yet this year and I sent it back on it's way after borrowing someone's dock for a couple of quick photos, my apologies and thanks to the owners.

Flyboy that makes my shoulders sore just thinking about it, you are a machine. Good to know that the magnum dipsy's get down that deep. I will have to try that in the finger lakes I fish for lakers where it's a shorter trip to deep water. For salmon, knowing my paddling limit, I think I will have to stick to flatlining or keel sinkers closer to shore when the salmon are entering staging mode. How deep are they typically running in september before they hit the rivers and estuaries? I have a fish finder but it is an old Humminbird LCR 4000 that is pretty basic in terms of functions. I have been having a blast with fishing with the yak this season including some huge fish that have taken me for a ride. A salmon would be awesome and am definitely hoping for favorable lake conditions this fall so I can get off the bank.

Hey guys, I've been working on my bucket list this season and am hoping to try salmon fishing from the kayak instead of wading the river this fall. I've been finding it tough to troll for any length of time with a lot of weight for walleyes and would like to pick your brains for basic lure, size and color selections for the Selkirk and Salmon River estuary area with floating/ diving lures without heavy weight to drag. I have 8 1/2' conventional trolling rods with penn 209 reels and plan to replace the 20# mono with braid by then. Let me know what you all think! Thanks

Wow nice fish, the second pic looks like an Atlantic to me?? The water was nice and calm over the weekend but I didn't have the gear to fish the deep water in my kayak so I stayed inshore.

My biggest kayak walleye of the year! A 27" trolling 26' down off of Stoney Point July 4th. Thought it might be a laker as I saw it coming up. Caught a sheepshead that took me for another ride the next day through the same run that probably went close to 10lbs.

I fished Stoney Point in my kayak last weekend and there was very little boat activity. I trolled in 26' with deep divers and hit a couple walleyes and sheepshead including this 27" walleye. Did well around the island as well with the smallmouths.
