Hey All, Shopping for a motor with the intention of using it as a kicker on my 18’ Starcraft during warm weather, and throwing it on a 14-16 row boat in the fall for duck hunting/winter fishing. Anyone here running a 15 hp kicker on a 17-19’ boat? Are you able to get below 1 mph? Not against a 9.9, just trying to maximize utility. Thanks, Chris Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I was in a similar situation a few years ago - found a 1989 Baha Fisherman in Dunkirk, was operated as a charter boat. Stringers had been replaced, engines had been rebuilt. I had it surveyed prior to purchase, all checked out. The previous owner had taken good care of it, mechanically and structurally. Fished it for 2 seasons before shifting gears to something smaller. No (major) issues, no regrets.
I'd still recommend a survey and sea trial prior to purchase.
Yes, be sure to run a high quality ball bearing swivel between your main line and leader. Spoons and flashers to a lot of spinning and twisting that could weaken your line via line twist if you were to do a line-to-line connection. On the business end, I generally run Spro Power Swivels w Coast Locks in sizes 2, 4 or 6 depending on what I’m running (meat rigs vs FF vs spoon). The smaller the better IMO Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Regarding the wash down - I bought a 6-7’ section of 2” (I believe) flexible tubing from the hardware store. When I need to rinse the deck down I fit it over the livewell fill and let er rip (I’ve got a bow well and a stern well, which is convenient). It doesn’t have a ton of pressure, but it’s enough to rinse the blood off in a pinch if you fit your thumb over the end of the tubing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
This thread is an oldie but a goodie - great way to share some of the fillets in the freezer with family and friends this holiday season Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Hi Bluegiller,
The USCG defines "underway" as follows: Any vessel is not at anchor, or made fast to the shore, or aground.
Rules are rules, don't want to see any one get a ticket, or worse.
All, please remember to abide by the cold weather PFD laws effective now until May 1.
"Anyone underway in a boat less than 21 feet in length anytime between November 1 and May 1 must wear a securely fastened life jacket. This includes canoes, kayaks, rowboats and motorboats Commercial vessels are exempt. NYS Nav. Law Section 40.1(e)."

The 2116's are awesome, and I've had good luck with my 1116's as well (approx. $1,200 for the pair). I prefer them to the Cannon Mag 10s I had on the boat before.
