According to West Marine we have to sand it for the first time... Can anyone confirm or deny this

Has anyone ever tried using it? It looks nice. I saw someone using it once down and the ocean and they loved it... I have read mixed reviews on it, it seems that you have to use specific knots. I was thinking I'd give it a try on some of my bass rods this summer

My dad and I have finally decided on the boat we are going to get... We are getting a 1996 spectrum pro avenger. My first thought was "wow that's older" but when we got there to look at it we learned it only has 34 hours on it and also comes wih a 9.9 horse kicker motor that has 12 hours on it... The thing looks brand new but, we are looking to put a new bow mounted trolling motor on it, I would prefer it to be foot control rather than remote control.

it's going to be for an anchor rod for pin rigging down south... If your not familiar with pin rigging I'm basically going to use this rod to throw out a 4-6 ounce anchor
