X2.... I first started traveling to the finger lakes region specifically because of the wineries/breweries and then fell in love with the area. I only happened to start fishing it 2 years ago when I changed boats because I enjoyed the area and wanted to spend time fishing there when I took my wife for a wine trip. alcohol doesn't kill people, guns don't kill people, people kill themselves or other people because of reckless choices. I have no doubt winery chemicals and road salt have some effect on the region but I believe it is negligible. Your talking about a huge body of water (I have no idea how many gallons) and very small amount of foreign substances being introduced to that lake. You also have to take into consideration the natural components of the land and water that help filter these substances. Its an interesting subject but one that's well beyond my scope of knowledge. I get it guys. As I said the hooks were brand new and extremely sharp. After hearing your responses I am confident it was him yanking away.

Fishy had them for me, they seem to work well. Fishy's a good dude and if you guys get the chance to visit his shop, he has a pretty large selection of stuff pretty close to home. Jim

Thats what I have done in the past and it has worked. He mentioned that one of the charters he went out with on Seneca always set the hook and since im new to this whole thing, I was making sure that I was doing it correctly by not setting the hook and just reeling down. Thanks, Jim

Do you guys set the hook when your riggers go off? Twice this weekend we had really good takes on the riggers, and they were definitely fish because the rods were throbbing once released but my buddy jumped up both times grabbed the rod and set the hook. On both occasions I believe he ripped it from the fishes mouth but how is one to be sure? The reason I think that is because when I was watching him I saw a second rod tip jump when he was setting the hook; the initial bend of the rod when he first set it and then a second as he was lifting the rod upon the initial hook set. In the past I have typically just reeled down hard and the hook set itself. After all, the fish had to grab that (in this case) spin-n-glo pretty damn hard to pull it from the release. For what its worth the trebbles were brand new heavy black nickel owners and were in great condition upon inspection after the misses. Thoughts??? Thanks, Jim

I just want to say thanks to you guys offering Charters. It seems as though Charter's would be a great option to draw people and wouldn't cost the tournament organization anything. This will be the first year I am going to fish the tournament but planned on it being a tradition in upcoming years. Jim

Anyone know if any of the shops around Seneca or Keuka have Roemer Liberator's? I placed an order for some stuff from FishUSA 2 weeks ago because I dont have anywhere local to get stuff and overlooked the liberators I wanted to order. Thought maybe Fishy would have them over on Keuka but if anyone knows of other places it would be great to know.\ Thanks, Jim

Yea, I always have them wet, I don't use them dry. Chances of me burning through that vinyl with a magic eraser and no abrasive cleaner are slim and none. They do work the cats ass though.

For all of you fans, and the nay sayers heres some proof on what Mr. Clean magic erasers can do. left side magic eraser and ordinary degreaser, right side nothing done except wiped with degreaser. It works wonders folks. Granted it took 20 mins to do the top of the seat but it was worth it. Some good 303 protectant and I should be mildew free for a long time. Jim

Hey guys... I am looking to upgrade the old VHF radio thats on my rig with something new and was looking for some recommendations. I definitely want DSC/AIS but i'm having a hard time justifying the extra cash for something that has an internal GPS when I have NMEA 1083 outputs on my Garmin 73DV. Did anyone recently purchase a VHF radio and if so could you tell me which radio you purchased and your experience with it? My father in law is the mechanic at our local marina and he always told me to never buy a force. He said, do you know what FORCE stands for, I say no, he replies FU**ING OVER REPAINTED CHRYSLER ENGINE. I almost fell off my chair. The other thing I would suggest is as your driving down the lake and the problem occurs choke the engine if you can. I would assume you have a control box that allows remote choking. Just hold the key in. If the engine dies down there shouldnt be a fuel supply issue. If it revs up the most likely is something wrong with your fuel supply. Jim

Hey guys... I was out doing yard work yesterday and noticed that gas was leaking from my combination perko gas fill/vent. I went over to the fill and popped the lid, what a mistake. The gas came flying out faster than what I can put it in at the pumps. I ran a wire down through the vent line to verify that it wasnt blocked and the wire went through into the fitting at the tank so I dont believe there is a block. Do you think the combo fill/vent could be bad somehow? I did have the boat sitting with the nose up in the air pretty hard, but in all my years of owning bass boats that had twin 26 gallon tanks, I have never experienced this. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

x3. I have the 73DV without chirp and love it. I use it primarily with the traditional sonar view but their customer service has been leaps and bounds above my interactions with Lowrance in the past. The new quickdraw functionality is great also. Jim
