The coyotes have devastated our rabbit population in NOTL Ont !
-
`Start with Dan Keating 's books ; ie " Keating on Kings " as a basic then move on with other editions ! All the information you need can be found on this site or " Spoonpullers " ! ps. great pun on the bear / bare ! pps. My family doctor was out on smaller Ontario lake seeing an open boat apparently adrift without anyone on board : Had to check it out found 2 bares ; told them " once a king always king but once a knight is enough ! "

Rabbits have been my main " predator " of young pear and apple trees ; tree wrap works + spray bark with a strong smell insecticide such as diazinon !
-
? For the long term peripheral fruit eg apple and pear and forage nut trees ?

Any update in the report of a woman shot ? after dark by ? deer hunter ?
-
Not sure why one would eat old spawning fish who may be in a process of natural decomposition ; the problem may have been in the preparation ( bears are omnivores will eat almost anything !)
-
Not sure of the benzene analogy ; I wash my hands with Ivory soap [ no scent ] before starting to fish to decrease my human scent on the lures ! One of my friends would routinely clean his hands with PCBs dies a slow death from lymphoma which he blamed on over work [ he did not have the TIME to fish and would not take mine fish ] Maybe this thread is over !

A lot healthier than smoking tobacco or marihuana ! " Rubber on the road " ! No proven health risks from eating fish from Lake Ontario or Lake Erie : I have been eating them for 60 + years ( all the guys I started with on Lake O who liked sausage hamburg etc and did not eat my fish are dead ! Not sure of the connection ) and I remain in great shape ! ( slowing down a bit " Once a king always a king but once a knight is enough !)

Another great hunt with friends
tuffishooker replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in Waterfowl / Bird Game
Again we harvest all the meat ; we would not leave the legs the only issue is the time factor : our best shoot was 23 geese and paying the butcher ( he needed $ 125 for the the work !) -

We use every bit of meat that we can separate which can make it a slow process ; at best 3/4 hr. Per bird : I then open the cavity and ad the heart ( liver goes separate to an Asian friend ) -

We have a local butcher make us goose sausage ; he makes it up with 80 % goose & 20 % pork + spices to taste ! Cleaning the birds can be a slow process to separate the meet ; as I tell people you cannot buy this and We know EXACTLY what is in the meet ! -
Poaching = destructive harvesting with little respect of the resource ! One wonders how much habitat loss in the late 1880s played in the demise of the Atlantic salmon when we heard of the pointless slaughter of the fish ! Biology 101 : biology has natural ups and downs of all species ; if the species suffers an added attack eg. Poaching it may disappear ! Other examples : the turkey was wiped out in Ontario not in NYS ! Walleye : over harvested and poached ! The deer population is down in the Niagara peninsula Ont. How can we prove it ie not due to poaching .
-
Atlantic salmon were native to Lake Ontario but were wiped out primarily due to poaching ( ie land owners on the north shore would fork them as pig food etc ; loss of habitant was a factor ) . Present attempts on the north shore has met with little success reasons are unclear to me ?

Up date from SCG&F recent post 10/28 ; will see Fish Management Zone 16 Management Plan MNR Ontario : Will watch with interest ie. will we see progress in the walleye fishery ?

Question remains why should a four stroke engine carbon up ? I use Sea Foam in my 2 cycle OBs because the oil/gas mixture will eventually carbon up . I also use high test ? Octane 92 without ethanol ; what grade of gas do you use ?

Walleye are native to Lake Ontario ; the Ontario MNR have done little to improve the fishery with major efforts for the Atlantic salmon yet to be achieved : Note article in Great Lakes Angler Oct/Nov 2017 by Darryl Choronzey " The Biggest Fish Story Never Told-Ontario's Atlantiic Salmon Fiasco " Ditto on the King is " King " ! But who long can it remain as a mainly put and take sport with our Canadian agenda foe Lake Trout and Atlantics !

I do not know of any walleye stocking in Lake O. Canadian side , Getthenet2 : The Ont. MNR stocked walleye in the cesspool of Hamilton harbour [ hopelessly polluted by the steel industry ] . They showed us fish caught ice fishing in the harbour last year at the MNR seminar . One of the attendees asked the MNR would they eat ? Answer " maybe a small one " ! sic ! I told the MNR I go back 60 YEARS fishing wallies in Welland canal and the Niagara River with a very good sport fishery ; poaching ,over harvesting ? by commercial operators plus change of habitant destroyed it! I suggested that the freighters coming down the Welland canal could carry wallies from lake Erie in livewells and release them in Port Weller [ never give a bureaucrat a good idea ! ] Walleye is a warm water fishery ; it does not complete with the salmon fishery ! The walleye is an omnivore [ will eat anything and is caniballistic ie will eat each over in rearing ponds ] The fishery can be from shore unlike the big dollar salmon fishery , allowing the less fortunate among us to enjoy the resource
