When to use flashers/dodger
lt119 replied to nathaniel's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I would start with 22" -26" most people run flies behind them or meat rigs..more is always not better..too much can scare them away...but I'm probably not the best person to ask ..I have run spoons behind flashers it's only ever produced one 17lb king 4 me and that was on a turn I had probably a 3 ft lead on that...I would stick to flies and if fishing is tough can't hurt to experiment with spoons Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

U fished 10 ft down on ur riggers...how far off the ball...I would b 100 ft that shallow and u would have to pick up ur speed for the spoons to work rite...boards ...jet divers and just a split shot rig to fish that shallow and way back ..if the waters clear 30 ft and up fish will shy away from boat trafic.. I would love to fish sandy creek instead of olcott in the month of June we have east winds and it pushes the fish and bait to the east..half the charter captains pull out of here in June and head east ..but end of may beginning of June and end of July and August till sept...I'll take it right here....I was doing great till 2 weeks ago a week of East winds and the fish r gone... Olcott area help

I agree with Gill-t June is a ruff month ..u can get lucky and pick on some of next yrs fish in 200-250 and steelhead in the top 40 around 400-500..if u do come I would set up about 200 get one of those mag dipsys in the ice water ..down speed anywhere between 2.2 and 2.8 tops and troll out till u hit a fish or find a lot of marks and circle..last weekend west and shallow tons of bait and nice hooks but nothing but a small king out of it in the 70 to 100 flow ..u could try there but as soon as the suns up beat it out deep those fish will bury themselves in the mud and u will scratch ur head trying to hook one ..yellow and orange up hi for steelhead ..green and deeper 4 the kings. I just bought one after 10 yrs only made one trip so far with it..I found myself concentrated on temp more than just fishing ...I did fine without one.but that's years of practice and learning. My graph marks my balls not much blow back normally 2ft different on the graph from rigger reading so I didn't get the 4xd just the 4x ..I did a lot of research and not having the coating on the cable sold it 4 me ..and the cheapest price I found was 529. At northwoods outlet ..they shipped it super fast and didn't have tax so I saved about a hundred from amazon and ebay..with practice and using when the fishing gets tough should help I only really needed for a east troll..because of current I was right my down speed was a few tenths faster than my sog..good luck ..
