I also agree to stay away from roller rods unless you're going to shell out coin for really good ones. Personally I like the regular okuma great lakes rods with a twilly tip. But you do have to replace them every few seasons as they can get grooves from the wire but they are super cheap to do so at about 30 a rod. Haven't tried the taloras yet but they are pricey too

Foul hooked fish is a possibility too. Sometimes they swipe at it and get It Stuck elsewhere

Tried a change of scenery for father's day as my dad has been wanting to go there for some time and enjoy being able to fish as we fall into the size and motor restrictions. Launched around 545 at the south end. Had to back in until my front tires were in the water and still had to get in and wade until I could push the boat off the trailer, no big deal. However went to start motor and no dice. I have a 2010 Yamaha 9.9 and for some time now it seems that every season I have an issue with the carb. However last year I learned how to take care of it myself and a half hour later I had it tore out and apart and back together and we fired right up. Motored up the lake to the deep water which had alot of floating weeds and set up. Took around 20 rainbows with only 7 being of legal length. Released all of them. All rainbows came on small spoons such as stinger scorpions. Leadcores were best with a few fish on riggers and a few on dipsys. In the mix the 5 color went and my son got to reel in a decent brown. Around 11 we still didn't have a Laker yet and I've had a goal for some time to catch a Laker out of all the fingers that contain them so we went out to 90ft and I dropped stuff near bottom and put a rigger ball carrying cowbells and a gambler rig in the mud. A bit later the cowbells fired with a 3.5-4lb Laker. Not much and could definitely have caught bigger elsewhere however there's a check mark on my list so I was happy! Thanks Brian Gambell! If you're looking to explore and have a boat smaller than 16ft with a motor under 10hp take the adventure for a beautiful fishery!

Thanks to both of you. I read somewhere that permits we required from the city of Rochester to fish these lakes. Is it true?

Was looking to see if anyone ever messed around at these lakes. I've got a 14ft deep v with a 9.9 so I'm good on the boat restrictions over there. I'm interested in trolling. Was looking for a change of scenery. Thanks in advance.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the trip!

We have went ahead and secured a date and are planning on continuing the tournament as normal. We will in fact use social distancing precautions if it is still an issue by then. However the date is Saturday August 8th and with the race cancelled for fans it should allow for more entries this year. Follow this post for more information as it's provided to me I'll post more. -

No problem. I know Roy's marina on Seneca as well as fishy business on Keuka both carry them. Best way though is if you have a Facebook contact him there through his reel rage page. Scott Baldwin is an awesome guy to deal with. I use his standard size spoons as for colors you can't go wrong with any of them however a few must haves are Two face, Showcar (color in pic), rod father, and electric muffin. He has many colors and some great quality paint! Out fishes my Michigan stingers when run side x side which is saying something!!

Had a fun morning with my dad fishing Owasco. Wind was a little strong so we didn't travel far. Lucky enough for us we didn't have to. Ended the morning at 10:30 with 5 browns, 8 Lakers, a nice rainbow and a mudpuppy that we caught when a diver with flasher fly kissed bottom in 90ft. REEL RAGE spoons outfished everything else by far. I highly recommend getting some of these if you don't already have some! Also lost a nice bow at the back of the boat that if we weren't just "fun fishing" and were in a tournament we definitely could've got in the hoop. Pleasure boat traffic was a mess at the launch when we got back in but we weren't in a rush after making a short morning out of it.

Thinking out loud here so don't shoot me but maybe Seneca would benefit from 2 or so years of king salmon stocking. The bait population could use some reduction and the lamprey would prey on them and take some pressure off the current fish in the lake until proper lamprecides could be applied. The kings would also did out after 3-4 years with minimal success in spawning so it's not a permanent change. Would also give that lake some awesome sport fishing for a limited time. Could be crazy but then again it could also curb some of the lakes problems and if its an issue where fish literally can't sustain life for more than a few years kings are perfect anyway...

Just stumbled accross this post. I have the same trouble it's rough. However I'm not sure of the age and size of your son I just know it's hard to find them for a 7 year old to allow him to tag along and be comfortable and warm

You apparently don't fish Cayuga
