I actually have a new Helix 5 coming today!
Hopefully I get to use it this weekend and I'll try to write up a report ...
On the bottom thing - are referring to trolling? It's really just all feel, comes with experience... somebody else might be able to describe it better, but a tough thing to articulate...
Grab a charter, as most have mentioned - then be prepared for a nasty addiction that will have you spooling and re-spooling your lines, tinkering and re-tinkering your set-up, and upgrading your gear on a weekly basis....
You will also likely collect in the ball park of 250 -1000 different lures, for which you only use approx. 20 of. - the others are just impossible to resist...
Trust me though, you won't want it any other way!
Sweet! Makes it all worth it... I can't tell you how many times I think "the last line in the water" is going to get smoked if I just leave it in a little bit longer...
It never happens! For me at least - glad to see it happens for someone
Dude, that fish is a specimen! It doesn't have that loose slobby gut either like you sometimes see on big Lakers. Gorgeous. That had to be a riot to bring in.
Guessing can be very hard, and this calculator I've used in the past is obviously an estimate,
But say that fish has a girth of 24," which definitely seems possible based on length of 35" - if you scale out the photo - That fish would be approx. 25 lbs.
Anyway, guessing is more fun than knowing, and creates great story telling - also full disclaimer - I have never actually weighed a fish in my life, so based on experience I'm not the one to ask!

Very cool. I have to try yak fishing at some point. Probably great exercise. I figure if I did, I'd have 20 series reels and run those jet style divers. Keep things simple. I have no idea how deep they are running, but the size 40 on 20# mono, back 85 - 95 has definitely been in the Rainbow zone.
I've yet to catch the famed Golden Trout out there, haha. I haven't seen a Brown in Hemlock yet - except for Chucks picture!
I'm changing it up and trying Canadice for a Brown or two tomorrow. I'll let you know if they actually exist!
I imagine in a kayak though, you'd have to stop with a fish on - and play the fish... If you want to run 2 cores, or snap weights, that 2nd line is likely going to sink to the bottom..
I'm sure guys who do it can tell me if that's the case or not.
Well - your arms will be tired, haha... but I think it's worth a shot... You can run them on braid with small reels, and they are very light weight. We have a 14' boat so I know how bigger reels and long leads can cause headaches on a small boat... we started running these divers because they are very easy handle..
But I have to admit, I've never "row trolled" so it could be awful... let us know!
Not too bad... feels like a mini dipsey maybe? What size are you running? We have been running the 40's, and I'd say the pull is comparable to a Rapala TDD 11, with a little more pull and less wiggle - if you have experience running those. The 30's are probably very managable. They are nice because they float at rest... so if kayak fishing you dont have to worry about running them into the ground if you stop.
Sounds good Steve!
I'm always for ball busting. I'll look out for you down,
I think we are going to hit Canadice this weekend. It's been tough out there but changing it up a little,

Dave,
What time were you on the water Saturday? I think I saw you guys... I am the other guy rockin' wood out there - I have a little Blue Drift Boat - My buddy and I went from about 5:45am - 10:30am - I wrote up a report on it in this forum, titled "Rainbows & Lakers", or "Lakers & Rainbows" - haha, I don't remember the order,
