8/28 Cayuga just before Dark
FishingTheFL replied to FishingTheFL's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I got my dipsy set very lite. Not sure why it didn't trip at first but it did soon as I grabbed the rod. Have to change the cam in my boat. Hopefully be out on the water this weekend. Might give Seneca a shot since b&b will be on Cayuga this weekend Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
1969 Mercrusier 120 rebuild... Worth the money?

Sounds like I just better start saving to put a different motor in it or switch it to an outboard so I can get some winter use out of it Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
1969 Mercrusier 120 rebuild... Worth the money?
FishingTheFL replied to FishingTheFL's topic in This Old Boat
The boat its self is solid. Old Aluminum. Just needs a new floor and paint. No leaks. We ordered a new cam and timing gear... Can't believe a fiber glass gear is $100... Cam is $255... Head gasket is brand new. I think he checked the heads when we changed the head gasket. I'll make sure today Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
1969 Mercrusier 120 rebuild... Worth the money?

2nd cylinder wasn't getting the lift like the other ones and that is also where the head gasket was blown out. I was thinking that maybe the cylinder would be worn from weak compression but idk anything about motors. We already have the cam all the way out. It will show bad compression with a bad cam correct? That's why we didn't do a compression test. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Exhaust elbow was $250 + $125 for exhaust manifold gasket and head gasket. Rebuild the out drive already... That was around $200... Now camshaft is $255 plus the timing gear which idk the price of that yet plus the install... That's another $400 with no grantees on work other then I been watching what he is doing and he is explaining it as he goes... Do I have to worry about the crank and pistons being wore down and need replacing? If so does that mean the block is probably worn out also? Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Replaced exhaust elbow, head gasket, rebuilt carb, hydraulic lifters, exhaust gaskets and manifolds.... Now it needs a can shaft... I got a ton of money into it... Is it worth spending another $250+ gaskets and timing gear and what ever else... I hate to spend all this money to have the motor blow because mechanic is leading me on saying " this will get you out there"... Basically crank shaft, piston head and rods, rings... Are what remains.... So much for fishing this year Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Can't afford riggers right now. I will be able to but I need to start putting away for winter. I have to get a board fixed on the back so I can stick down riggers on anyway. Easy fix Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

I switched from mono to braided to help trip the dipsys.I'm worried about using wire because if it gets in the kicker... I'll probably stick to braided for now till I get more practice with the new boat. I'd almost rather cut a diver off over taking the kicker out. Any where local to get it? I'm using braided line but need to change it. You just need a different tip for wire correct or do you have to have special rod for wire? Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Oops double post... Just spoon. Umm idk its the small spools they sell at Walmart. I'm going to have to get better stuff. Using stuff from last year( first year trolling was last year). Bought a 18' foot boat and kicker so I'm getting back into it after all summer rebuilding the motor Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

70feet down on FL angry Alewife. All the smaller ones were in the top 40. I just kept changing colors. Good luck tomorrow. I won't be able to hit the water to till 6:45 again. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Headed out of Dean's. Setup right out the shoot at 100fow. Trolled south till ran in the first break in the houses marking very little and no bait. Turned and headed north and started marking a lot of fish between 40 and 60 ft. Must of had my drag set to tight because when I finally got a hit the tip of the pole bent right over. Dipsey tripped and brought a nice LL to the surface. Did one jump and snapped 12 lbs test... I was disappointed since it was one of the biggest LLs I have ever had on... 0/2 but now I got the shakedown trip out of the way with my new to me boat. Can't wait to get back out there. Should I use a heavy leader ? I would really like to land one of these large LLs.... Sad part is I landed a 10 lbs laker using 6lbs test... Haven't been able to get any Lakers. Been running between. 2.2 and 3.1 surface by GPS. I know surface means little... But its better then nothing Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Went from Dean's to Sheldrake between 80' and 120' then out deep after Sheldrake, turned north on east side nothing till long point. 5 for 6 on LL. One 18.5". Never picked a laker. Tried Sutton 32 44 and 71, angry alewife, chicken wing pizza, random yellow and orange stinger... Just couldn't get into any Lakers. Kept the LL because I caught it by its eye. Gushing blood all over... Maybe I need a paddle to get the Lakers going? Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Yeah I didn't mean to be rude I just didn't want to impede on the search. Looks like rain anyway. Maybe give it a go out Sheldrake after the rain. Got a new 4 HP kicker I wanna try. I don't think it will work being a shorter shaft. I can get down to 0.9 on the surface with main motor but I rather not use it for trolling. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Not sure never used flies before. Husky Jerks(Rapala), Original Floaters(Rapala), jigs and spoons in black and silver. Husky jerks north of Lodi worked well in 18 fow. Lots of 28" to 30" with the biggest being a 33" last year. All were released. You can try posting on the Esox under warm water. Those guys might be able to give you more info Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Husky jerks in natural colors. I've also caught them on paddle tail flukes with jigs. Perch color some times produces but sliver and black is always been a good producer. Last year they were covered in red slime. Might be a off year for them. Last year around this time I caught them by Belhurts. If fishing from a canoe north side of Lodi would be a good place to try. Had a lot of luck there and the north end by the park in Geneva Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I know your not suppose to swim there but how many people do? I know I do... I park the boat out just off shore so the kids can swim to it and jump off... The dead rotting bodies can't be good Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
