  1. Seneca is just an animal you gotta figure out. Went out last night and we did alright. Even caught us a few boaters in distress. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. If I let it get real warm before using they tend not to be there. Here is the first hole. 4 layers of fiber over lapping by 3" each piece. Just need to sand and do a couple layers on the inside where the bright spot is. Still feels a little weak there. The big bottom hole.... I plan on doing from the inside... I found that I spent more time sanding globs off then actually getting anything done. The rusty water was coming from a hole behind the big hole that was about the size of pin head. By Sunday I will have both sides of the first hole done, and the entire interior sanded so I can mask the outside and layer up. I suppose I should stick the transom in before I get inside it again. Hull shifts a lot without it installed. Thanks for all the help guys. Looking forward to getting this hu k of junk to float again Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Fish finder, I pilot, down riggers. Cheaper then a boat. $700 toward a prize sounds like a better use of money then for people to look at a boat. Hope to get my boat finished before then but I have lots of work ahead of me... Hope its not the last year. I always wanted to try the derby as a kid. 4. I'll work on sanding them down while the patches I tried to do cure. First one was perfect. Other two not so much. Heat lamp is helping them cure faster so I can hopefully get the whole bottom today. I gotta hit Lowes up for a jig saw to cut the transom. Once I get that back in I can get inside and start sanding Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. So I'm trying to get this project finished this week. Can I fill this small pita with filler or do I have to sand them out? Any way to keep the bubbles out when I lay my resin and mat? I plan on laying a layer of mat over the outside then filling the hole from the inside with small cut pieces in the shape of the hole which I plan on making square shaped for easier cutting. After that laying another piece of mat over the inside. If I can skip sanding all these little pits that will save a few hours... Seems like they would act as little anchors bonding with the surface that is there. Thoughts? Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I know some one to ask. Ill see them Saturday. Let you know what I find out Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Moving to Sampson sounds like a good idea. For one, there will be tons of campers there, that will be good advertisement for following years. It also brings attention to the marina and rest of the park. Check out a historical site and see some big fish weighed in, sounds like a family weekend. 8. So I sanded it all down. All the pits are from the guys patch job... Guess I gotta fill these... Tried two batches of puddy mix. First batch I made to thick, second was just about right. Sanded down nice. Got my piece for the transom. Soon as the weather turns again I'll be sticking that back in. Shouldn't be long now still lots more to go. Tomorrow high is 49° so I'll be doing as much sanding as I can while its cold out. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Sounds like I better use good paint on the bottom that will stick then. There is a good 8 foot section about a foot wide that previous owner or mechanic removed and painted. I'll get pics soon. Its warming up outside. I might try fixing some of the holes as it warms up today with the heat bulb. Wednesday and Thursday look like the day to do the transom. Other then the shoulders killing me from sanding on my back all day, its not so bad working with the glass and resin. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Gotta sand the all the old gel coat off? Project I might pay someone to soda blast... At $8 for 4 sanding disc that last maybe an hour.... I'm better off paying for it and save my shoulder. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I trailer it. They talked about that Awlgrip but didn't see it in stores. I'll check the site out. It looked like couple hacks worked on this boat before. Be happy with any paint job as long as it floats and catches fish at this point lol Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. It ended up curing but I didn't stick enough powder in to get it pasty. We ended up going to Lowes for more sanding discs and look at the plant selection... By the time I got home the cat knocked my thinner over... Spilled out even with cap fully closed... So I ended up sanding the entire bottom. Bottom is ready for repairs. Just need to sand the inside, wipe it down, and repair the holes. What paint is good for the exterior hull? I read a little bit on it. Looks like most of it can be brushed or rolled on. Iboat forum I was reading, they talked mostly about gel coat and that you need a mold to gel coat? Going to keep it easy and go with roll on paint. I'll have to sand the rest of the old gel coat off the repaint the whole bottom hull correct? Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Got white heat bulb on it. Color make a difference? Its tacking up but taking forever. Hope to get the holes done today and transom coats on. Next will stringers, floor, seats. Thinking 4 days of decent weather if everything goes right. Knock on wood Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. How long for resin to setup in 55° to 60° temps. Trying to fix pits in the transom and the holes but doesn't seem like its warming up when I add hardener. I remember it getting hot, untouchable, when I paid a guy to patch the holes. Using a heat lamp at the moment to help it dry. Tried using fiber glass dust to do the puddy trick. Must not added enough powder as it was runny. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Caught a few that looked like that out of Cayuga Friday. Nice catch. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. I rather target them then just wait. I get tired of bull head fishing. Soon the bugs will be back out as temps rise and when the mosquitoes get so thick you have to wear a face net so the bugs don't carry you away... I stay home lol. Couple days I'll give it a try. I might go try targeting white perch and blue gills today since its raining Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Don't know much about spawning alewives but they where in about a foot of water by the hundreds Sunday morning. Dead give away flipping and rolling when I got close. I don't remember exact temp but I'm pretty sure 3' was reading 52°. My Sunday trip ended up turning into a nightmare so I didn't get much time to fish. Main boat is almost done... Can't wait to get out this stupid canoe. Weather needs to stay in the 70° to finish fiber glassing floor, transom, and stringers... Good luck guys. Don't catch them all Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Watched a guy catch a nice salmon of Dean's cove shore... Said it was his first time fishing, first cast ever... Big salmon in shallow. Alewives where in inches of water Sunday. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Well the power randomly came back on... After I finished my other project. Eliminated fishing blind lol Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Got transom area ready, started sanding around the cracks and holes... Power in outlet died... Currently trying to sort that out.. Ugh... So... The plan is to lay fiber matting over the outside (not sure how many layers is good but going to try 4), then cut little strips to fill the hole, then lay another 2 layers on the inside. Wondering if I should just open the hole up or leave some the old glass there so I don't have to fill with so many layers. Video I watched said 4 to 5 layers then do the puddy trick basically and sand. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. I'll have to give it a try when the season opens. I bought a bunch of them last year before I joined LOU for trout, found out that they were useless for trout lol. Is there walleye between cross lake and Montezuma? Most likely to fish between there and cross lake? Never really heard anyone fishing the river for eyes but saw they stock them on Dec page. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Last year, around middle of May.... There was a mile or so of sawbellies covering the bottom in the north end of Seneca. I home I get my boat fixed by then but so far it's not looking like it... Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Thanks. I ended up top lining to goose watch hoping the perch moved from the north end but ended up hitting a large LL right off the end of goose watch dock. I'm not looking for huge slobs. Just a meal. Been since November since I ate fish... Fresh fish... LL broke off at the boat. Was only hit of the day Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. With Walleye season opening again soon and it being a fish I never caught. I'd like to try fishing for it this year. I'm pretty much going to be fishing from a canoe until late June when I finish fiber glassing my floor and transom in. Main Questions - Do you have to fish them at night? Can they be found on the eastern part of the canal before Cross Lake? What's the best way to locate them if jigging rather then trolling? Thanks for any info and helping a newb out. -Mike Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I lost one around that size at the boat on the north west side. Only fish for the day. Sent from my XT1528 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
