  1. Cayuga was good last weekend. Fish were tough to find at first but when they turned on it was great time. Check my report from last weekend. Seneca was slow. Today looked like a good day to be out there
  2. Sunfish population is pretty much gone... use to be huge schools of small dinner plates. Now they are barely the size of my hand. Each spring I've notice many sunfish just dead... Cayuga just sucks the dead bodies into the canal system... bet the turtles eat good if ita not killing them too.
  3. Surface temp was 47°
  4. Jointed Rapala and Original floater I've heard from two guys. I been trying to catch a brown this year. The water is way down and if you go to Dean's cove bring a shovel. The launch was blocked up by about a foot of everything the lake could puke up. They hitting hard because of the pre-spawn? Anyone notice scar face in the photo? Shows what they can live threw.
  5. I hope there is atleast one more good day. Tell you what the laker that hit in 25fow reminded me of jaws.... towing the planner board backwards... couple times in looked like he started dragging it under! Optical illusion most likely but at the time I thought I had a big rainbow or pike... Pike was first thought tho since I was in shallow. Hit on a Sutton 22. Rainbow that I caught was out over 80 or 100 fow. I try to always fish where the bubble lines are, or scum build up. My guess is that this is different water column kinda like a rip tide. Not sure of the sciences behind it, but I'm sure it has to do with current speed.
  6. Headed North out Dean's. Setup over 100fow. Started off slow until about 1. Picked up one from there with 4 Lakers, a Rainbow, and a small salmon. Caught one of the Lakers on 3 colors out on a board... thought I had a big pike or maybe a big rainbow... boy was I surprised getting a laker in 25fow. Probably one of the last times out. Temperature going to drop sooner or later.
  7. I'm sure invasive species has had a lot to do with decline in all species... " the fishing ain't what it use to be (insert # of years here) years back" Even I find my self telling younger guys the same thing.... 15 years ago you could fill a cooler in a couple hours... gill nets are a little much now a day's... but it's probably grandfathered in and a business that's been doing it forever... but even forever can come to and end
  8. Almost everyone I've caught this year has been covered in slime and seems where the slime is a red algae grows on the scales... Caught this big guy with a jig and swim bait
  9. Looks like it's dropping now.
  10. I saw the me factor first hand yesterday when a family came down to the trib I was in and started snagging trout which was their intentions from the beginning... they just didn't see me in the bushes... by the end of the day they had the wife there with a pole in her hand so they could take more fish... I would imagine people with this attitude do the same with perch limits... but just switch lakes... and yep sure enough Ontario was rough so we had guys from Pulaski down here, which I don't mind cause they were doing everything legal. Its the scabs that ruin it for the one a who try to do it legal...Dec response was they would send some one down... never saw an officer... probably to busy doing deer season... I bet no one eats that amount of perch in a day... Also, without including all new York water ways, you could easily go to any lake catch them, sell them, and still continue to do the same thing because they are never going to test the fish to see which lake the fish were caught in before purchasing the fish...
  11. Mine got left on all day and night... I noticed a difference
  12. Between my dump trailer, boat motor, trolling batteries... something is always charging. Cold killed my main battery so I switched to my trolling motor... that I don't really use... but I noticed my stuff ran better... less issues, ran it about half throttle and it was still reading depth. I still think the kids messed my transducer up leaving it out of water on...and that's why I can't see as many baits schools... sucks but oh well, knowing the depth is good enough. For my first year I'm learning a lot and getting success. Gotta go hit Sutton up for more spoons.
  13. Every now and then I have that issue. Come to find out a lot of it was my battery with a dead cell... put a brand new battery in and it stopped doing it. Probably still a wiring issue as every now and then it still does it.
  14. By the look of the eel mark on the side... the eel could been as big as the laker... maybe part of it? It had been eating. The alewife was barely digested.
  15. Cutting out? Power or transducer feed? If it's transducer not reading bottom, might be the depth your running. I find every now and then mine will just stop reading bottom... probably where the legend of the bottomless lake come from when it's probably just a delay in read... found spot where it goes from 200 feet to over 400 ft almost instantly... I'm not sure... I read an article or two about how they can shut down for a whole year... I imagine not all of them are fasting... but I compared the laker to the salmon... laker was emaciated...
  16. Never saw any bait... think my transducer is fried. Kids turned it on when I was at work out side the water... I just put it on 2 or 3 and look for the lifted fish
  17. Caught a nice LL on Seneca. 8am to 2:30 pm took a laker and an ll 240 fow 100feet down. Barely hooked the laker. I didn't mark any fish under 170fow. When Seneca flips... the fishing will go nuts... or that's my theory
  18. Lol. Everyone keeps saying the best fishing is yet to come on Seneca... hard to put the boat away. It be like last year... warm til Christmas and then Wham... snow and cold lol
  19. Didn't get a weight on it. My scale got wet so guess what I got to buy next lol Btw, laker was eating alewifes that were pretty large. The LL had really small alewifes in it.
  20. Got this 100 ft down! Figured laker out that deep. Fish are over 100ft down over 240fow. Also got a small laker.Broke off something big on chartreuse and red twin minnow... broke a 12lbs leader like nothing lol. Fish turned on as rain picked up but I was soaked and already had one in the box so picked up and headed home
  21. From a distance with a good phone reg shouldn't be to hard to see. Paper and pen works well too. Text random love one it in a pinch.
  22. You can sell perch? I didn't think you could sell any fish caught. I've heard of bull head fish fry but always thought that was and under the table practice local... 50 perch is a lot of fish... and you can sell them... population will drop quick
  23. Dang, was going to take the day off to give it a try. I didn't wanna spend all day playing with dinks tho. I saw what looked like a big bow come up for some bugs yesterday out in front of glass factory bay on Seneca. I know the north end has been getting worked pretty hard but haven't seen any fish being taken. Might try out of Sampson, but I'd like to actually can catch something lol. Idk about Lodi... always rough down there. Dec fish report said fishing on Cayuga has been slow... I haven't had a problem.
  24. Headed out the chamber with a buddy to try hand lining copper. Mostly to see how he does it cause he says he never gets skunked and to see if we could get the right speed in my boat. We got couple hits, I showed him how boards worked. Large silver fish jumped and gave us hope. We ran into a very large boat school around 50ft deep out in the center. I didn't have a jigging pole with me or would gave it a shot. Looks like the fish and bait are starting to move back into the north end. Water was very clear. About 10 or 15 ft visibility down. Water temps where still 54°. Going to give the shallow water a try.
