Water temps are starting to drop. I've been trying to get my boys in the boat all summer but their still young enough their not ready for the boat. I'd like to take them down to Sampson and try off the wall. Any one catching anything in the area? Still to warm yet? Perch and bass would be fine but love to give them a real fish to get them hooked on fishing... instead of the video games... If I get them into fishing, well, I'll be able to do more of it! LoL Thanks for any info. I could use a live bait setup that works. Tried the sliding egg sinker but seems the weeds will just hide the bait. Can Alewifes be injected with air like worms to float? I've considered bobber with a split shot to keep the bait down. Any info is welcome. Mike

Fished Cayuga today. Rainbows and Salmon were spitting up perch minnows as well... Found them in 35fow over 200 feet

Wouldn't spend $500 to get in a tourney for a cheesy price... The reason people will join is for the boat, Raffle should be door prizes. Who is going to spend $500 just to get their name randomly stuck in a loto to have more chances then some shmoo that bought a $10raffle ticket... Go out fish, win a tourney, then win some door prize that wasn't even worth the time... that would be a real bummer and pretty much end any future tourneys. If non locals wanna have a chance at the boat, get in the tourney. There is a lot of things anglers can do off the water to level the playing field come tourney day.

I also caught a Laker in top 20 feet two weeks ago over 50fow. Took a rainbow too that I lost at the boat.

Spent the last two days chest deep in the lake, feels it might be starting to drop off. Still pretty warm. What's better top lining, spoon or Rapala?

I run a couple different setups with dipsy 0 and 1. Usually 1 set to 70fow and the 0 on setting #3 with 300 ft of line out. Its not quite 40 ft. This is my salmon setup with a copper chicken wing from dream weaver. Lakers I've been doing well on a Spin Doctorer and blue green G fly. Chicken wing up top and spin doc and fly deep. I also run 4 rods. Two out the sides two down the shoot. Rough days I run two to the sides and one down the chute. If your looking for a stealthy approach I've been told lead core with 20ft leader is the way to go. Problem with leadcore is it only goes 50ft down after 10 colors(300ft of line). I'm going to try it this weekend with a planner board. Keep in mind this is my first year, Les showed me a bunch different rigs and now I kill the fish. Have you tried jigging? It's fun once you find out how to get them on, which is basically timing unless you got one these fancy trollers that hold you in one spot.

No fish around Sheldrake! where the fish at

Great into. Something to keep in mind for lure speed. I had a small boat so I was a bit worried about the troll back. Think it was last weekend the lake was smooth and a blast Cold air come from the north. Pushed a rather large wave all the way down from Lp to Sheldrake. Kinda looked like a mini tsunami come rolling down the lake. Was kinda ominous. -

Every lake is different. This my first year, I've caught a ton of fish on dipsy divers (size 0 and 1). With those two you can fish from 0-70 feet down. Keep switching lures out till you find one that works. If your looking to catch a bunch of fish try Cayuga below Sheldrake. Most of the fish have moved south. I caught one last week that was like hitting bottom but in 170fow. Seneca they say is slow, haven't had much luck there. Only jigging.

True.

Only issue I have with multiple lakes is cross contamination. Got keep the lakes healthy and have fun.

Make a season of fishing where each Fishermen wins points based on place in each division. Break it down by species, (Pike, Bass, Trout,Perch) then by points (1st 20pts 2nd 17 pts 3rd 12pts 4th 7 pts). End of the fishing year add them all up, 1st takes the boat and have couple other prizes, (Duck blind, rod package, Saftey kit). I'd rather pay $500 for a whole season tourney then a weekend.

Need a pay out for the top 4. I wouldn't wanna pay $500, win couple the different species classes, then someone who didn't win anything gets the boat because of random luck of the draw. Just my opinion

I've been looking at how to dramatically increase chance by analyzing the maps for drop offs, points, bottom types, and how to fish the conditions. Like you originally said, you gotta find active fish. Few weeks ago I found them carpeting the bottom. After 3 hours and one decent one on... I gave up. Learned a lesson that day, move on to the next spot, check back later with that school. I read a few articles on fish behavior and schooling, one bass pro mentioned that when "carpet"the bottom he would just skip that school because most likely they were not feeding. I would assume that trout have same instincts. Each time out I learn a little more. Thanks again for the meet. Getting those planer boards soon. Going try them bhai out as the water temps drop.

Come to the conclusion that Jigging or live bait is going to work well on Senece. Just my opinion but here's what I see from my experience. Lots of bait since around May is making the fish so they don't have to chase as much. I've only caught a couple trolling, where as jigging I caught twice as many in a hour compared to the whole year of trolling Seneca. Jigging is most likely having more success because of less energy expended by the fish to feed. Just my opinion tho. Love to hear what others think.
