89 21ft mirrocraft cuddy

My solo setup is a copper on a big board "only time I run big boards are by myself" dipsey w/flasher fly and 1 rigger with spoon and cheater fixed or free sliding. Everything is run off one side although I run both big boards and my other rigger will have my fish hawk on it. I have found from fishing alone a lot that it is easier for my to keep everything close and handy and only using one side of the boat does that. If it's ruff or windy I will pull the copper or dipsey depending on what the fish want.

I have purchased offshore pro mag SST's and am very pleased with them, haven't pulled more than a 400 copper and it did great!

Church tackle walleye boards
Buckmaster7600 replied to phil2's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Never tried pulling a dipsey. With the mods found on bloodrun's website I know they will pull a 300 copper but not well. I am willing to bet that a offshore sst pro mag will pull a dipsey because they pull 500 copper very well. -

Under 10lbs I love them, fillet fresh clean up fat give one fillet to my uncle and I eat the other. A big one gets filled and freezer bagged and it's what I bring when we do cook-ins at work, never had a complaint and there is never any left overs.

I'm in the same boat as you. My buddy just got a set of Scotty 1099's for 375$ a piece and they are sweet. Short booms but they are a lot faster and easier than hand cranking!
-
I like them both for different reasons. Less than 5 color core and 150 coppers I love the sst's as long as it calm. The rougher it is the more I like the walleye boards. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. In the right conditions the sst's track awesome but the walleye boards are more consistent.

My only experience with them is early in the year when fish are shallow and I'm using mono. This is when they shine it gets the bait away from the boat. When fishing below 25ft I don't see much advantage to them over a wire rod and a dipsey.

I have been running walleye boards and off shore's for a couple years and with modifications they work ok for 250-400 copper. I want to get 4 new boards and want to know if you guys recommend the tx-44's or the new offshore sst pro mags? I know the pro mags are new but someone had to have used both. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Question; Pros/Cons of using a trolling plate?
Buckmaster7600 replied to Todd in NY's topic in This Old Boat
Can't say anything on issues to outdrive, but I will say I installed one and hated it! It does slow down a boat but at the cost of handling. My recommendation is trolling bags. -
Fish Hawk Problem
Buckmaster7600 replied to Mjnoff21's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I have found with my fishhawk that they are very volt sensitive. I now run it and my fish finder of a separate "house" battery and have no issues at all -
Small trolling bags
Buckmaster7600 replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
They don't list any small enough. I might see if they can do custom sizes. -
I have a pair of bags that I use every day I fish on my 16ft Starcraft. They are smaller than any others I have found, about 13"s. I bought them used on eBay and they have no brand on them. Does anyone know if a company makes any similar to the size I have? I have a 6hp kicker so I don't need the bags to slow the boat but I like the stability they provide. Thanks for any help Jordan

Flatlining copper
Buckmaster7600 replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
A copper down the chute can be very effective both at catching fish and making huge messes. -
I agree with bout time. Lay them down flat, also spin those riggers out if your dipseys are on 1 they are out of the way.
-
I also live an hr away, there can be good lake trout fishing but they tend to be small. I have had my best luck in the "bowl" north of the upper launch. It can be a very busy lake on weekends.

Thanks, I have been ordering a bunch of stuff and they don't sound like someone I want to do business with.

What is FLT?
-
Not being able to turn. That was my main complaint I added another pin hole for it to lock at about a 20deg angle and that helped control but then it was tough to slow down enough. For me I would never even consider a trolling plate again. There are better methods of skinning this cat.
-
I had a trolling plate on my main and HATED it. Then I tried bags and now I have a kicker and still run small bags every day. Bags stabilize the boat. I could see bags not being as effective if there was a lot of current but I have never had the issue. For now until your kicker is back buckets work very well.

Rod Holders - Triple Tree or Triple horizontal?

I live around saratoga and fish champlain a lot as well as a few trips to Ontario every year and I always go to Oswego I don't know if it's the best but I have learned it and it's what I know. If your doing day trips don't over look lake george it gets busy during the summer but I fish it a couple times a week and it has some outstanding lake trout fishing.

Planer board spread question
Buckmaster7600 replied to tj13825's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I always start with my flat lines on the outside and my short cores and coppers inside of that and have never had a big problem I think an occasional tangle is inevitable but I don't worry to much about them, these tangles don't compare to a wire dipsey with a spinny finding a 400' copper. -
GPS Mapping on new Combos
Buckmaster7600 replied to Prof T's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I now use an iPad on a ram mount on the dash it's amazing ,daily updates awesome accuracy and it has other uses. For me it was some of the best money I have ever spent in my boat.
