  1. I will sometimes run both batteries at the same time but I make sure to keep an eye on my gauge so I don't end up with 2 dead batteries. Worst case scenario I can pull start my kicker and charge a battery with that alternator

Start by replacing that battery and strongly consider putting in a battery switch and a 2nd "house" battery (Deep cycle). Start the boat on battery 1 (cranking) and then switch to battery 2 while trolling. This way you will never be left stranded, if you kill the house battery your starting battery will still be good. This would be a safety concern for me, especially if your kicker doesn't have a charging system. If weather kicks up out there and your only battery is dead it could put you in a very dangerous situation.

  2. I bought my stainless steel ones up at Henderson

They do cause extra drag do to resistance pulling out to the side i use with a 10 lb ball and the white plastic winger and if i want them to run at 100 feet i let out extra cable to account for blow back and angle . As to wear to buy go to ebay and search winger they are really much money i love mine .And as far as Wrights goes you can launch and park .GOOD LUCK

  3. I’ve never seen them before. Who makes them?Im still a little confused on how they work. Do you attach them to your downrigger cable? Thanks in advance for any more info. I have fished the lake a long time, and learning never gets old.
The winger separates your lines and causes the downrigger weights to plane away from the boat. This separation is exceptionally good for smaller boats, downriggers mounted close together, boat shy fish, and also eliminates the need for extension on the downrigger arms.Screenshot_20200717-213412_Google.jpeg

  4. I've fished when the current was so bad we could only run dipsys on one side at a time depending on what direction we were trolling

Man, at that boat speed I'm surprised it's happening. Anyhow, all I can say is that underwater currents may have played a game with you, or even a good wind that was pushing the boat sideways, so when you think those dipsey lines are off to the side, they aren't, only resolution is to keep that copper dead center of stern until it's all out, and then hook up your planer board ... I wouldn't prematurely move the copper line to the side while it is still deploying ... you now know why.
