  2. My buddy and I had a great shoot Saturday morning. Lots of teal and wood ducks around . It took a bit for the big ducks to fly but we were just about done by then. 5 teal , 1B 4G. 1 ring neck. 1 Mallard . 3 wood ducks and 2 gadwall. I took a pic of some vegetation... what I call duck potato. Anyone know the correct name ? What ever it is the ducks love it. Swamp was loaded with it. 7. KJLs buddy was right. I was working by braddocks bay this morning and I saw lots of geese a mile high. My buddy called me up and said his field has 500 in it . Now I just hope they stay till Saturday. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. We tried the farm pond thinking the heat would have them there and that was a bust. Saw 3 birds total. One more weekend and still no cold weather in the forecast. What a bummer of a September . Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Took a ride around this morning to find a whole lot a nothing. Cut corn all over and no birds or people even out. Hope some friends come up with something for the morning cuz I have notta. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Found a field Friday night with 100 or so in it. So we hunted it yesterday . Had a mint hide , set up then, Good old farm hand was riding the badboy buggie in the field checking the sprinkler system when the birds we're coming in. Manage to have a flock and a solo come in . This cold front should get something going soon. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Same up here Dawson , had a field Friday night with 150. We hunted it on the opener and they all flew to a field down the road. Thought after that it was a afternoon feed but we checked it in the afternoon and they moved on to the other field. Sunday we hunted a sweet corn field , that the farmer broadcasted some clover over for a cover crop and that's what they are feeding on in that spot. Heat, fast flight makes for a quick hunt. Was driving home at 815 both days. Lol I hate the heat. Thanks Dave !! Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. It's that time of year again! Just like last year not to much time to scout but found a field last night , to hunt this morning. Fast action as they all came to the field a once . Good to be out hunting again. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  14. Saturday morning off the roost had a gobbler working his way to the cow pasture , I was 80 yards away belly crawling in the tall grass. I got to 60 then a calf chased the gobbler away . We decided to go back at 10am and had 1 sound off by him self around 11am , but he was not alone. 1 long beard , 3 Jake's and 4 hens . They were in the open hardwoods on a nice flat strutting and wouldn't leave . He would answer evey time I called but not move , I can see his fan at times as he is strutting. I have to make a move so I got my fan out and moved in slowly scratching the leaves as I moved in, turning and popping the fan up. He saw it and to come see . Lucky for me he was the boss and had to see who I was and not the jakes. He came in strutting the whole way to 15 yards and lights out . 1in hooks 9in beard have to guess 18 lbs . Got it on video with the cell phone . What a way to finish up the season. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Got it done this morning in the rain on a stalk mission , I missed opening weekend so I feel a little better now. I saw a tom and 3 hens sitting in the corner of the field and figured I could get it done no problem with some belly crawl and stealth mode . I crawled thru 60 yards of poison ivy in the rain and if I'm down wind of that stuff I'm done can't wait to see if this ivy wash is worth it. But any how I got to 40 yards and they started to walk my way and I cartwheeled him at 30 . I just know the pattern they take and cut them off. Big bird I'm glad I didn't call at him probably would have hung up . 21.8 lbs 10in beard , spurs 1 1/4 other 1 1/8 . Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Thanks. I told the youngster 1st turkey must be plucked. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I got a call last night from a buddy who has a kid to take out in the morning and asked if I could call for them ... I'm in . My buddy put 2 long beards to bed and said it was going to be a easy quick hunt. I've heard that before. So we get out to the spot and sneak into probably a 100 yards on top of a ridge , I sat back 40 yards . He's roosted halfway down the hill. He was gobbling hot on the roost. I did a fly down call and he flew down and was strutting on top of the ridge at 80 yards. I then scratch the leaves and called . He gobbled his head off coming in searching and the next thing I hear is bang and the turkey running away. The next spot we go to we get a turkey gobbling. We circled all the way around him and move in to his direction calling as we are walking trying to get in his bubble again cuz he went quiet. He then gobbles at 80 yards away in the hardwoods and we sit down. He comes into about 50 yards full strut in the wide open. I didn't want him to miss again so we waited. He skirted right around us . Now that's 1 is over. We drive around to another spot and a turkey is full strut in a lady's front yard then walks around the barn. We get out and ask for permission and the lady says go right on ahead have at it. So we went around the barn . The turkey was out in the field strutting with a hen. I then called and he answers. I tell the youngster to get in the barn , a run down barn with boards missing and holes all over perfect to hunt turkeys out of. I tell him to get ready he might come back this way. I call again and 2 gobblers answer in the other direction but coming right in on a string. The rest is history. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Yes they breed in different areas. There are tons of local breeding Mallards in the area I live and have been since I can remember. Black dark numbers are good along the coast and Inland on migration but nowhere near mallards , but soon to be 2 and 2 ? That's not right. The way they count birds is different than what I'm used to I guess. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Anyone ever think the high numbers of Mallards in 1998 was due to duck Hunters getting out of hunting when they took away lead in 91 . 7 years of breeding with alot less Hunters equals lots of birds. Around 1998 with record high numbers in every magazine out there expect the duck hunting sport to Boom. Newer steel shot non-toxic loads brings more people. In return lower numbers. It's called common sense not much people have anymore. Now with a lower number of birds ,and breeding . If u don't fix the hen harvest. The old saying you can't fix stupid. 20. Wow if they allow 2 hens then they are the stupidest people on Earth. Can't make chicks with out hen's. So there is the same amount of blacks as mallards in the Atlantic flyway ? Why is balcks at 2 ? Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. When the limit is 2 Mallards are you allowed to shoot two hens? Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I was sent a big survey book this year that look like a exam for duck hunting. Not the typical 1 that u get once in a while . It asked all types of questions 80 plus . I was wondering what it was all about ... Guess mine didn't matter . I know the western zone late season dates area all about the finger lake clubs crying about divers ( Timing the cold). Then the mallards move thru when it closed in the break . Then people complain about numbers of birds. Like gamble said just going to have to ride it out !! Sandwick ... Its way far to the left Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Good deal !!! I'm just heart broken . I live to hunt greenheads. Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. New York is probably the only state that will have this law. Lmao Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Did they give a reason to not push this this year ? It's common sense if numbers are down. Hens make chicks how about 1 hen? Jump to a conclusion but waits a whole hunting season . Get the guy /group the f out of there . Sent from my Pixel XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
