Late 90's early 2000's are going for 35-45 grand and from what I have seen of the 2000's they are a lot more cruiser than fisher. The stern area is more for lounging than battling. For that kind of money I would be looking at a Tiara 29 Open and more than likely it will be a saltwater boat. The 29 Opens are as scarce as hens teeth on the Great Lakes. A good survey should eliminate any fears of salt water. Usually the exhaust manifolds will have to be replaced and other than that I wouldn't worry about a boat from saltwater as there almost always a closed cooling system and straight inboards. I usually go to Hudson Valley on craigslist and search the 60 or so surrounding areas and come up with quite a few of them. Blackwatch, Alberemarle, Henriques, Ramapage, Topaz and Bertram also come to mind. -
Ended up at Charter Lakes, [Great Lakes Charter Ins.] 597 for the year and it is for Charter boats 1st year they will max you out at 300,000 for liability and 300,000 for and that number will go up with your years of chartering experience moves along. 950,000 for pollution, 300,000 for Uninsured Boater, 2500 for towing 25,000 for medical 20,000 on the hull. A few companies didn't want to touch a charter boat. 1,2 or 3 payments.

The boat was insured for 20,000- Actual Cash Value- and a recent survey was attached. 28 ft, twin inboards, chartered. Had a 500 deductible and trailer was not included. 1212 for boat and 261 for liability, 10 unscheduled personal property = 1483 for the year.
-
I just got a quote from them and it was about the same numbers as yours and they quoted 1483.00 All I wanted was liability and they said you had to buy the whole package. The liability was 261.00 for the year but was part of the bundle.

If everything was working the way it was wired up then I would buy a new condenser and leave it the way it was. The ground wire is there to ground the unit and complete the circuit. If works when you remove the wire and you don't care ,then go ahead and run it that way .
-
Also your points usually have to be replaced, gapped and dwelled every couple years. I would buy a aftermarket electronic kit that replaces your points and condenser forever with no upkeep needed and very easy to install. Think they go for around 100.00 on ebay. Lets you idle down a bit more as well.
-
The condenser on any points type ignition is used to collapse the ignition coils magnetic field more quickly. It must work or you will not get spark. The condenser on the alternator is just for radio interference. If that isn't working you will get a lot of static. They are not connected to each other and serve different purposes. Hope that helps you out.

Did you try G2 outfitters as I suggested ? Buy them once and be done with it. What your link went to are garbage. G2s are reinforced 2" straps with some HD material that are sewn together by the Amish. They are not" Amish" trolling bags, they are better and heavier duty. They also have a video on you tube that shows them in action.

Go to www.g2outfitters.com and buy a heavy duty trolling bag. IMHO best bags on the market. Very reasonably priced, jettison the buckets. That my advice

You can try googling it. On a Mercruiser I/O it is a weep hole from the shift mechanism and that may be the grease/oil you see coming out. Check your lower unit oil if you cant get a answer and see if it milky and or filled to the top. Usually it only holds a quart ,so its not going to cost you much to verify one way or another. My gut feeling is it is residue from the shift linkage.

How old are the batteries ? Reading 12 volts doesn't mean any thing ,it's the amperage that you have to go by. You could wire two 9 volt radio batteries together and get 18 volts, wouldn't have enough amps to turn over a starter motor. If the batteries are dead they wont hold a charge and jumping them might work IF you had excellent connections, someone revving the car up and you waited a couple minutes before you gave it a try while the car is still revving up. You could also take the car battery out and install it in the boat and see what happens. Its probably that or your starter is shot.

Not trying to get in a pissing contest here, just stating what I went through 6 months ago dragging a boat from the ocean to WNY and going through 3 states. There was nothing in writing about insurance requirements or lights for loads under 11ft wide. Honestly with the boat in question the most I would do is throw a sign on the stern and move it,maybe have a buddy follow me as a buffer. That boat does not look overly big on a trailer and is probably 8'9" wide at the stern, still over, but not enough to have a cop do a double take.

You do not need flashing lights for that width and you do not need 1,000,000. worth of insurance ,what ever you carry on your tow vehicle is good enough. The permit is sent or emailed to your house. Yes you have to give them a time frame or you can but a yearly one. Yes they want measurements of axles and load capacity of tires which are listed on the tires. Yes on a 20.00 over width banner along with the route your going to take. In NY you have Monday-Saturday daylight hours to travel on the Thruway half a day on Sunday Knew a guy that got stopped in Ohio without a banner and they took the width measurement at the stern not midship. In most likely hood you will not get stopped if your displaying the overwidth banner. He got fined about 150.00 If you know anyone in the construction etc. industry they may have a yearly account and let you use it. Is it a pain ,pretty much. It really depends on how much your going to be moving it and how far, you need one for each state. If you like the boat I wouldn't let that stop you from buying it. Or you can pay a local hauler to do it, there listed on Craigslist and have all the paper work needed.
