I think the best bite would be offshore. There are almost always at least some kings in close . But I think the majority , at least this year and probably last year are 200 ft plus . This is typical this time of year anyway. Kings are getting ready to stage and are roaming and looking to school up and migrate .

I got all my hits in 80 to 100 ft in a quarter square mile

If I'm solo I don't take pics unless the fish won't make it or I want it . . I try to get them back in the water Asap . At least one I took my net and let the bag get caught on the hooks and rip the hooks out . I don't want to take them out of the water if I don't have to , to increase survival . Besides , they weren't that big .

First light solo Started in 70 ft and headed north Lots of bait and fish mixed in . Not a lot of big hooks . Made a commitment to run flashers only the last few times out . Green dot glo was best . 75 down , 220 dipsey . Wound up going 4 for six . All salmon 2 we're about 12 #s or so . Had a double ,lost the one on the rigger then dipsey fires . Good fish taking line and I lose it . I come back with just the ring of the swivel on the end of my flasher .

So Look at the angle of your cables as judge of speed . If you have 12# weights and you have 90 ft of cable out , your angle back should be about 30 deg . If they are 10# more angle . You should be slow turning constantly with , against ,and sideways to the waves so your lures are going the right speed at least some of the time. Look at GPS speed and direction of troll on hit . Standard and Mag spoons in the PROVEN colors for best chance of hits without speed indicator , your dipseys should be your best producers . You can get a surface speed temp probe add on for your depth finder which will help a lot for not a lot of money . I used one for years before my fish hawk .

Scotty Release Tension
HB2 replied to Just1skipper2's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I use the Scotty pinch pads and love them . On the back of the release where the cable line is , push that plastic piece back for better grip . I set my releases so tight , I have a hard time popping it when I want to change . But a good fish has no problem releasing it and I get a good hookset . -
I have 2 friends that have the same riggers . One lost 2 probes , the other 1 . I also had Mag 10s and loved them My new to me boat came with Walker tournament riggers . They are great . If I need new riggers some day ,they won't be Cannon . Unless they are the Tournament ones . With all the problems I hear about those riggers , let's put it nicely , there are much better options . To much weight ? I thought those riggers we're rated for up to 20# Give them to Fred Sanford .

Great minds think alike 😂

Not necessarily . I have got a lot of steelhead this month and they have been hitting the same thing the kings have. That includes flashers . Today was an 11 " paddle with my rig 90 ft down hooked 3 nice steelhead . But I do think they like the 28 size spoons generally . Frog , Black silver UV , Spook or Lazer Spook , NBK have all been good . I think location is most important . Can't catch what is not under your boat .

Last day of July and of the LOC After the north wind yesterday we decided to head offshore. Ran out at dawn and set down in 350 and headed north . Best was 400 to 430 . Temp was down 85 for us . Put all our eggs in one basket and ran all flashers rigs , one each on my 2 riggers and one on each dipsey . Ended up with 3 nice steelhead and 2 good Salmon . A few more good rips on the dipseys . My rig , Which has been catching a few has not been the stud early on but today and last trip out was the man.

I had my 1986 305 Chevy ,230 OMC cobra converted from point to Electronic . Best thing I ever did for that motor . Never had a problem with it . Boat ran flawless . 1/3 better gas mileage . Trolled .smoother . Shifted great . Tommy from East Fork marine did the work . Did an awesome job as usual .

My 21 ft hardtop with 305 Chevy came with a 15 /17 prop I dinged it and brought it to Spinneli to fix and buy a spare . He sat down with me and suggested a 15 1/2 / 15 prop . He said these fishing boats get loaded with equipment and coolers and that prop would have better performance . And he was spot on . It has better hole shot , better cruising in waves . I lost a little top end but it was better all around and better trolling .

My nephew , who is big into racing boats in FLA , told me I should get a stainless steel prop . I said I don't need the speed . He said they can't get the cup and pitch in an aluminum prop like they can in stainless . He said with aluminum , you have basically 1 gear. Also said I would get better gas mileage . I don't know anything about any of that , but he has built from scratch a 30 ft offshore racing boat and is a certified offshore racing official ,so I trust his opinion . I have seen props in his garage that he has sent out to have machined and ported . They are really something to see .
