  1. I am more and more partial to the 8" pro troll with the agitator fin . But I like the spin Dr as well . For big I like the Hot Spots or Big shooters . But white of some sort is my go to color . Glow or UV
  2. Yeah sounds like you should go out and buy a few 15 # torpedoes at 150$ plus . And hope your riggers are rated for that much weight or you will replace them also . Or hook the release on the weights you have , call it a day , and go catch some fish . Sounds, from your original post you already know that hooking the release on the weight solves your problem . So if it ain't broke don't fix it .
  3. Don't attach the release to the weight? I guess I have been doing it wrong for the last 40 years,. That is what keeps the weight straight and stabilizes it IMO . But I don't load my rods up as much as,some of you guys because I think it pulls the weight back and you get more blow back .
  4. Best wire I have found the hard way is 65 to 100# power pro braid.
  5. Let us know what happens
  6. 2 Scotty or offshore . 25 $ Done .
  7. I had the same problems when I used Roemer releases or blacks . I had the weights tangle . Went back to pinch pads and solved the problem . The weight dragging the line/ lure behind keeps it straight and stabilizes it . I have used cannon, offshore for years and now Scotty . I like Scotty best . You see shakers better with them Also .
  8. I feel you need to get bait placement with your middle rod at the 50 deg Mark if you have a fish hawk then above and below . If not fish the the bottom of the bait then above and below . Cable angle tells me you are going way to fast . Pull some buckets or a bag . I love my buckets . I put a how to on them on here somewhere a few, years ago . Also I use scotty pinch pads and set them tight so fish has to pull hard to get a release . I put a bend in my rod but not crazy . With my tight release , the fish is hooked good on the strike . My go to set up with 2 riggers is a flasher at 50 deg 1 rigger , other rigger a spoon 10 ft be low flasher , spoon stacked 10.ft above flasher 25 ft lead or spoons a little behind flasher .
  9. We are getting played like fiddles Makes me sick the way some of this stuff is reported . The weak minded get swayed . The events of the day are not reported but used as ammunition for or against a cause . Trump is not the president anymore but he is talked about constantly while important issues of the day are glossed over or not even reported by some outlets . Can we just report the news, with, no slant or agenda already? .what pill do these People take to say what they say and look straight into the camera ? It's not news anymore .
  10. And they fight better than lake trout
  11. You must be referring to my failed attempt at a rapala knot I use to tie my jig heads on with . So I came up with my own version . Want to guess what I call it ? I haven't tied a jig head on without it for 15 years . And I use a ton of jigs . No special knot on my rig .
  12. Do you really think it would make a difference ? I ran it this spring the 4 times I went out till I gave up trolling and did the creek thing . Never had a hit on it . We will see in a few weeks . I tell it like it is .
  13. I use to run deep diving Crankbaits off my boards till labor day long ago with good success . I had some spoonbill rebels , bombers , and a Lindy shading in lemon lime that was killer . A big king broke the tail off it . The Rapala tail dancers really look good to me for this . Those baits trolled go down 20 to 30 ft on 12# mono . I would think the coho and Steelhead would eat them up .
  14. Sounds like the fish are coming up off bottom and becoming active . I noticed Sunday morning the warm water fish were very aggressive first time this year . Most of my hits the last few weeks very soft takes . So it's sounds like the worst is over .
  15. I'm going to have a " wait and see " attitude on the season . Might turn out great king wise . We have had springs like this before and the summer fishing was lights out. If all the fish run up to the west end and go sit on bottom in 300 ft till the lake sets up , it won't matter a lot how many more they stock if you are in a bad area of the lake . It has traditionally been for salmon .... Spring west end Summer mid lake Late Aug on, east end . I'm not surprised by this except for the Brown's
  16. 5 dog fish this morning with this hog that swallowed my 9$ Crankbait and bit me as I tried to get it out .
  17. I hear it tastes like chicken
  18. Best game in town right now . Match the Bait fish .
  19. I talked to the Magnum Metalz downrigger guy at the shoe a few years back . He told me his riggers could crank up a 20# ball . I asked why he needed a 20# ball . He told me in Lake Michigan , he gets half his kings 300 ft down .
  20. They could be 30 pounders .......... Carp
  21. Don't assume every fish you mark on your screen is a trout or salmon . Especially in water less than 100 ft . We have had sustained east winds and bad temp/ water for most of the spring . Fish are scattered. All fish are scattered . They could be smallmouth bass / perch/ pike / sheephead , etc. .
  22. As I said , I want surface speed thru the water , not SOG , which I already have .
  23. Yeah , well they haven't been working so good lately . I'm pretty good at judging speed . In fact I have kind of perfected trolling in my small boat without having it . And I really don't want a fish hawk . A surface speed gauge will do just fine , and I'm apprehensive about that . And yes I know all about the sub surface currents. I have ways to compensate for that . I don't think some of you guys know what I want to accomplish when I'm out there in my small boat .
  24. Honestly , I'm probably going to do nothing , and just keep bringing my hand held GPS with me , which I only turn on once in a while . Or make one . I usually do pretty well out there . But this year I struggled so far . And from what I gather , I'm not alone . I have boxes full of lures in my basement that I ran out and bought when I struggled . It'll turn around . When I'm small boat`n , I try to stay as primitive as I can. And let my talents get me by . I get a lot of satisfaction from that . And it makes me a better fisherman .
