I run 65 braid on one side and wire on the other . Many times the braid outfishes the wire . And after losing a diver , pro troll and the rest to probably a kink yesterday AGAIN , the wire is going in the trash , all braid . I see no difference except when the fleas are real bad , but I'll live with that .

Well I did not get into the Sandy creek shootout figuring no way could I compete with My boat and primitive equipment . But We fished that morning and did quite well as we found a good pod of kings that were biting . We easily had a 75 # box . I don't know where we would have landed . And we ran two rods most of the morning and were having breakfast with my wife by 930 .

After a bust yesterday with a Cancel and A guy who could only fish 2 hrs we head back out today with a double team with Coyote K . Started in 80 with all kinds of bait but no hits . Decided to head out deep and glad we did . 300 ish was the best for us . 65 to 95 down . And again my braid dipsey out fished my wire . I keep hearing how much better wire is . Well , I ain't seeing it . Went 3 for 8 . All good fish 2 hits on spoons . The rest were white flashers and my Gary D rig I think I have finally perfected .Got bit off twice . That I need to fix . One time this summer I did not catch a fish on it . I don't think I have the next great Salmon bait. After 3 summers of testing I now know it .

How do I start?
HB2 replied to Gregger300's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
If I were you I would run one flasher each on each rigger fishing the marks As deep as try the fish are . 25 to 35 lead 20 apart vertically . And a mag spoon On each dipsey set on 1.5 back a long way or fish the marks And I love my white flashers . White rocks . And turn a lot , s curves so you lures are going the right speed at least some of the time . -
When we get a strong east wind for a day or two the wind pushes the surface water west while the current flows east and pulls the cold water from down deep to the surface . It can be as cold as 42 Dec this time of year surface temp . This is my understanding of how this happens Fishing is bad inshore and to find stable water you will have to go 3 to 15 miles offshore . The fishing can be quite good out there . I head north and drop lines when surface temp reaches around 65 And head north .

Maybe you can reel 150 ft of 30# over the braid with Albright knot . Then a 25 tippet of 20 Flouro to the spoon or straight 30# to a flasher . 30# braid is strong enough but will catch a lot of fleas if they are bad . You will just have to check and clean them often . Good luck

Wire Diver Question - How much to spool?
HB2 replied to Lightbringer's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
First wire diver I had was 300 ft of 30# wire ,backed up with an Albright knot to 100 yards of 65# power pro braid and then 20# mono to fill the spool. Caught a ton of fish on it with 0 problems . But I trust my knots . I feel there is more chance the wire breaks because of a kink you don't see than the knot breaking . -

I go thru this when I go to the ADKs There is a steward at every launch checking boats . So after I take my aluminum small boat out , I acid wash it , keep the plug in and put about 30 gal of water in with some bleach and go back and forth in my driveway and slam on the brakes to swish It around . Then rinse good I tell the steward what I do and they say " good job " .

Not to many years back , Orleans County pulled in the least tourist money than any other county in the state , according to a local paper The fishing is the biggest attraction as I see it . So what do they do , they cancel the marque event of the year .. We just got done with the summer LOC . So what's the problem ?

Frustrated - Braddocks
HB2 replied to adesalvo's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I fished this lake a lot since they put the first put the fish in with only surface speed/ temp and feel I did pretty well 2 years ago my son talked me into a fish hawk . Amazes me the under currents out there and how I am constantly adjusting to them . I have talked 2 different guys in to getting one this year . Buy the fish hawk , you won't regret it . -
I have been running my rigs from 1.9 to 2.4 all of July for the best results . Also last year . The bigger Kings seem to be lazy. I have gotten double up when I hook a screamer and slow down or take boat out of gear and another rod goes off . This has happened more than you might think .

First light to rough seas Went out to 90 Temp came way up last night 47 at 50 ft So we worked our way west and out . Not a good screen at all but temp went deeper as we went out Anyway after taking a few over the the bow while trolling into it and dropping 2 fish I turn it to go with it back to the creek and call it a Derby . Rod goes off 55 down , nice mature about 18 20 min later Double , down 62 and dipsy at 170 dropped the dipsy and landed rigger fish looked like twin to the first one . We were 2 for maybe 7 releases . Ran 4 flashers today . Snotty out there . So much for 1 ft waves forecasted .

We fished Sandy this morning and boated 7 for about 12 with 5 majors up to 22 6 110 to 150 65 to 85 down 180 on dipsey which were best . All we ran were flashers trailing ,dare I say it ? Temp was down 80 to start and came up to 60 .
