  1. Probably was 50# flourocarbon of some kind .
  2. And what kind of line was the fly leader ?
  3. Ditto on the 2 manual and 2 dipsy Get a 2x 10 across the gunnels and figure out how to clamp it down good and mount them on that Or take a charter If you like to catch fish , buy the riggers and dipsys If you like to reel fish in , take the charter . You will get more on the charter But what you get on your own will be more satisfying . No offense to the charter guys
  4. Part of the fun of fishing ,at least to me is figuring it out for myself . I can tell you from doing the salmon thing from the beginning that trolling is pretty simple . But made complicated by many . The secret is knowing seAsonal patterns , where to fish and when . All you need us 10 spoons in the right colors from early May to labor day to catch fish ,as long as you are in the right location . 2 riggers and a dipsy or 2 and you are set . This time of year is the hardest time IMO . Because the lake is in transition and fish are everywhere . In about 2 week's time it will be more consistent . We all have bad days . But put down proven stuff and stick with it and pay attention to details . Find fish and stay over them .
  5. I found a,nice net on the road and posted it on here . The owner saw it and he met me to get it back . It's the honorable thing to do GOOD KHARMA

    BASS OPENER

With launches closed and no wake 1000 ft from shore we decided to stay close and fish Sandy . Friday afternoon pre fishing was pretty good with a surprise 6# walleye and some big perch were the take . With some nice bass,in the mix Today was good early but front came thru and put fish down . We,had a nice, bag 3 bass,, a bunch of big perch and a,walleye . Had a total of about 15 BASS on the day . The weather changed . So out came the Jack and the fishing took a back shelf . Great shore lunch of walleye , perch , and a,few bass. Both cleaned bass were still pre spawn and eggs were not close to being dropped. Small senkos were the best lure choice of the last 2 days
  7. I use a lot of mono and it is as good as it ever was Maybe better . I like Trilene XL clear or Big Game for my casting rods . I ave even used Bass pro or Eagle claw, with decent results . Use to use 40# $1.99 mason for flea line . Worked Great ! As luck has it I talked to a bass guy today and asked him if he used Flouro . He said " not any more , I hate the stuff " and pretty much said the some of the reasons I gave as why . The Gary D rig is still in R&D . But preliminary testing from mid July last year and up until last week for me have been excellent. I have caught everything but a brown on it . I catch More kings on it than anything else I used and it is the best lure in my spread this year . Nice to see that Seagaur has found their early version was less than stellar and improved it . I am going to ****can all the spools of Flouro I currently have so I won't be tempted in a moment of weakness to use it . Except for the Drennen.
  8. Back in the day , pre flea , I ,and a lot of guys used 12# and 15# pink Ande or Trilene XT or Big game , and almost NEVER ,broke off . Pulled dodgers with the 15 . And the fish were bigger . So why does the Flouro to my baithead or My fly rod tippet etc of the same # test as the mono or heavier break way easier than mono ? A guy on here said he had a hard time landing stream fish on 3.6 # . That's not much less than the 4 I use most of the time with no problems . So why is that ? Mono is way more durable than Flouro . Flouro is more abrasion resistant than mono . But once it abraides it is way weaker. Kind of like a chip in your windshield . Maybe the fish I had break off swallowed the hook and the action of the line scraping over it's teeth compromised it . Or at least a,few,of them . I'm not above tying a,bad knot , but not all of them . And I know how to play a fish . The stuff just fishes different IMO . And I don't like it . The only reason to use it is because it is invisible .
  9. A,friends of mine has a starcraft 17 ft 70 s . His,leaked where the Transom met the hull by the drain plugs . He had a friend who was a welder weld it some how . We thought it was the bolts also and it wasn't.
  10. I use 17#Stren. This is what I use for my 25 ft tippet from my 30 # to the swivel. No problems at all I use 8# vanish on my Crankbait spinning rod ,no problems . I use the same 17# for the bait heads . It breaks just before or at the baithead . 4 breaks in 2 weekends and lost 3 bait heads . Never considered it might be A biteoff as I have had to ta ke the hook out of the throat of a few fish and maybe they use the head as leverage . No crimps . I don't think it can take the shock in that 4 ft section . I tie a Snell knot and yes, I take my time tying the knot . And wet it . All I know is I fish a lot , more than most And catch a lot of big fish on 4# mono . When I use Flouro as tippet material . , I have problems .be it this , fly fishing tippet. Float / jig , or braid tippet for bass. I rarely break off trolling . I am going to try the Blue label and tie some 20# mono and compare . Flouro all has the same properties , which are all documented in various tests .
  11. Went out first light . Set right up over bait and fish at 70. . Two Gary D rigs at 45 and 60 . 60 was first to go with about 12# king . In all for morning was 4 hits with one landed . Fish shut Down after first hr or so . Broke off yet another Flouro leader at boatside with a nice teen king. Have I mentioned that I hate that stuff ?That makes 3 times . Bassin next weekend then out comes the big boat .
  12. Back out at dawn to a flat lake , which did not last long . 4 hit with one good king landed . All his on my rig behind white flasher . 60 over to 90. Another flourocarbon leader break .
  13. You are probably right about that But I think I have something that is pretty close .
  14. Went out first light to a beautiful sunrise . Set up in 60 out front with 2 Gary D rigs , one at 50 one at 60 . Started marking at 75 and rod goes off . 50 to 60 over 70 to 100 . 5 for 6 with 4 salmon and one good Laker . Thermocline has to set up soon .

    MINN KOTA

Any of you guys out there in fish land have issues with water getting into lower unit of a Minn KOTA ? I have had this happen on 2 different motors after only 2 years use each . Had marina / baitshop on Empire fix it last year and it did it AGAIN ! So that's 3 times . I fixed the first motor and I just took the second apart and fixed that one . Sounds like it's a common problem after internet research. WTF?
  16. And there is the problem . I use 4# maxima and it rarely breaks . Then for stealth I use 4 ,6 or 8 Flouro and I have problems .I've used a ton of different tippet stuff since 1976 and there is not even a close second to the performance of Ultrageen . But I will continue to use Flouro when I feel I need to . Float fishing a,small egg fly and swinging are 2 different animals. That 2# got me a lot of fish when nothing else worked . And it make awesome ice fishing panfish jigging line . Ultragreen spoiled me for everything else, when it comes to tippet. IMO a lot of, you guys use Flouro because you feel you have to but in most situation you don't need to .
  17. Just went to Hamlin town hall and spoke with the town super and building inspector All the , town does is install / remove docks . Ask him what the chances we fix at no cost to the town . He told me probably not going to happen . Looks like I get the creek to myself this summer to bass fish . Was a nice thought . Affect you guys more than me .
  18. Any fix need to be private money and labor The game plan : 1: Get approval 2 : set up Gofundme account for Sandy creek pen project . Run it thru there . 3 : Signs to mark drop off and turn around perimeter . And one so users can donate . 4 : Approach Lowe's to see if they can help out . There's a guy on here with connections . 5 : Cones / flags to mark turn around perimeter . 6 : Tools : Generator , chop box , drills and impacts . I have . Could use more drills drivers . 7 : set date , have material on site ,get crew , build and install .3 weeks should be enough time if this is move upon . Available for July Aug peak . If guys on here that use it kick in , and those that see sign at launch also , we should have all the money we need For selfish reasons I would rather see the ramp stay close so I can have the creek to myself for bass . But I'm willing to forgo that for my fishing brother .
  19. In their defence If the town were to get a crew down their to fix the launch , it would be deemed by some to be diverting resources away from problem areas . In reality , that would be the case . If it were me who was waiting for help I would be mad if the boat launch took priority .
  20. That's my brothers place on the peninsula . Very sad .
  21. Looks like a Yellow barrier across access,to launch.
  22. If you can't find it ,I'll make you a new one . Let's just hope the Flouro leader don't break
  23. Middle of the winter when it was 0 for two weeks . It use to be the only place to fish when it got like that . Water gets clear green. But I haven't been down there in 25 / years or more . I don't think Flouro was around back then One of my favorite places to fish .
  24. As I recall , I read somewhere it will stretch , but not stretch back , which could be part if the problem .
