With all the boat launch closures , can't the state or county do something to make some of these launches usable ? Seems to me it wouldn't take a whole lot to get at least 1 ramp in some of these launches usable . The water is going to take till mid August at least to come down enough to be usable . So no boating for most this summer ?

I fish out of a 16 ft side console alone all the time with no problem . First thing is how the boat is set up . Are the riggers and rod holders easy to get at to set / adjust ? This is critical . Also you have to be fast and anticipate boat wander . Set up going with the waves . Keep things simple . I run 2 rods . One on each rigger . I sometimes run 1 dipsey and 1 rigger . And that's it . And I do quite well . On the strike , if it's a good fish, I leave it in the rod holder and I pop the rod with no fish and reel it in quickly and put the boat in neutral all at the same time .if you are going into the waves on the strike , turn away from the fish and go with the waves then neutral . Then play the fish with no boat drag . Have the net ready !

All I know is green = good fishing, like the old days .

We just completed the house across the street from that parking lot on the lake last fall . If you watch spectrum news it's the dark blue one they are reporting from . It's a retirement home the people haven't moved into yet . A beautiful expensive home . I'm sure it's high enough and ok . The yard ,not so much . And yes I saw those carp . We saw kids chasing them around . Last time they were in the ditches on Newco . Also they are in the parking areas on the east side of Bruce's marina.

The reason I think the water is green is the nutrients that are in it that support the bottom of the food chain . I'm curious to see what happens moving forward . Think about it , high water 2017 , fantastic king fishing 2018 . Best since pre zebra . My have nothing to do with it but it might . No mind you , I'm not a marine biologist or an environmental scientist , or do I play one on TV . But my guess is the folks who proposed this in the first place are . Obama, Cuomo and others just used that to push it thru for the economic windfall.

Environmentalists were pushing the 2014 plan for environmental reason . They said the current policy was hurting the ecosystem of the lake . I haven't seen green water like this since pre zebra mussel . And the 80s . And the fishing as well . We use to get spring kings along the entire south shore . After the zebras showed up , the spring kings migrated to the west and and the lake erie /Niagara flow . We had that dark black dead water. . Something to consider .

Sandy small boat`n
HB2 replied to HB2's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
4 for 6 this morning 3 nice kings ,a skipper ,and a steelhead All hits on the Gary D rig . All hits 60 to 75 ft . Had yesterday's favorite down and a few different spoons . No hit on spoons so I put out a second rig. I was bent over to clip up into release and the rainbow hit and pulled it out of my hand . -

On my way back in the state trooper boat at the Sandy launch pulled me over . He safety checked me and said he wanted to make sure I was not making a wake within 1000 ft of shore and to please help get the word out because they are very serious about this and WILL write tickets. They were nice guys . So be aware .
-
Went out first light again A little more choppy than I would like to see it but I gave it a go . Busted out the Gary D rig and it did not disappoint . 3 of the 5 hits I got were on it with a king pushing 20 were it's result 2 more little guys on a die hard . 70 to 89 ft 35 to 65 down Nice green water

I figure 32 2x6x 16 joists and decking 3 4x4x12 legs 900 " deck screws 30 lags Would be 48 ft long approx by 3 ft wide Make in sections so it could be used again as needed . Do 1 ramp

I watch people launch and load their boats at the Sandy launch guide a bit . You can't tell me that the town or state can't make a dock elevation of about a foot and a half from dry land to the end of the dock . What's it going to take , 500$ worth of PT 2x 6 , a couple of 12 ft 4x 4 and 15 # of deck screws ? The least they could and would take maybe 4 hrs .
-
Using small boat tactics , Went out first light . One heck of a scum line at 50 ft . Fish were just outside of it . Went 8 for 11 . All salmon but 1 Laker . A few teen size . Fish were 25 to 65 ft down for me Die hard was best .

Braid as a backing for trolling reels??
HB2 replied to Fishbowl836's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Why would you use braid as backing on a mono rod ? I use 20# big game as suggested . Then when fleas get bad , I splice in 150 ft of 30 or 40# ,then 25 ft 15 or 20# tippet . My wire rod has braid backing . I use power pro or suffix but I would think any major brand is good . Here is my trick to get max amount of backing and braid, wire on perfect . This is where those old trolling reels with bad drags come in handy . Reel onto your good reel the tippet first , then the 30# splice or your wire , then fill to capacity with the backing till full . Transfer that to one of the bad reel . Transfer that to the 2 nd bad reel . Then transfer from the 2nd bad reel to the good reel . It is now filled perfect . It's,a lot of trouble , but it works . Got sick of under or over filling . -
Bass Fishing near Brockport - need any help I can get
HB2 replied to BennSmith's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Within 15 miles of Brockport are the LO tribs as stated , probably your best bet . Stay off the lake , no need to be out there . Good mix of everything . Black creek in Bergen , largemouth and pike . The canal , there is a widewater between Holley and Hulberton I fished as a kid a lot . The spillway just east of the lift bridge in Holley . Canal tip, anywhere there is a change . Concrete to rock , bridge enbutments, etc . bounce small jigs from shallow to deep or small crank baits . Lot of small mouths and some walleye . Largemouth in the widewater . The Quarries in Hulberton if they aren't posted . Some pig largemouth in those . Hard to catch . This should keep you busy for the summer . -
Also , I had a good conversation with the slide diver guy at the Niagara show . I said I used dipseys and walkers for my flashers . He said with the rod length leads with the dipseys , it would restrict the circle the flasher, especially the 11" , would make . Makes sense as I use 25 to 35 leads for flashers off my riggers,. Some guys are using 15 ft leads on their dipsey and hand lining the fish to the net . F that , might as well use the slide diver with the ultimate ring .
