Back in I think 1977 when I bought my first boat I bought a Lowrance Brown box paper graph cause I just had to have it . Was clueless , as most were , how to troll for salmon . After a long while I figured out that I was more watching the graph than fishing . Worry more about location & presentation . And use the fish hawk for reference IMO.

Unfortunately , all those crowds are good for the fishery . Every out of state licence or dollar spent at a tackle shop, restaurant ,motel,etc means sales and state income and licence taxes and fees . And that's why our governor continues to fund the program . Also why DEC writes tickets and local judges have a hard time convicting . They don't want to chase away paying customers . -

Off the Fort in the Niagara jigging for Lakers , a totes boot , right the through the toe . My fishing buddy who is now deceased , laughed for 2 days . And never let me forget about it . Also a few seagulls and a cormerant got tangled in a flat line but got loose . -
What is your trick to easily fill the spool with ,say , backer, then , lead core ,wire , or flea line? So you get the maximum line on . I have mine and it works great .

When Los Angeles , Chicago , and New York city are running the country , God help us . The majority of the population lives there. And can we say they are " smarter" with what goes on in these places ? I am more concerned about this GREEN NEW DEAL that is coming . They want us to use no fossil fuels . If and when this gets implemented at least in some part , the price of gas / diesel will skyrocket . What will that do to our fishery and economy as a whole when gas is $5 to $8 ?

And we are run by downstate . And there now is a democratic majority in the state legislature . A few backroom deals are made and it passes . We are the back 40 of the state . God help us if the Electoral College is not used anymore . The country will be run by the population centers . States like Wyoming and South Dakota will have no voice . Have I ever mentioned we would make a great 51st state ?

There is freedom of speech , unless you are a kid on a bus talking about fishing . And God forbid someone gets offended. Then you can't talk about that anymore . And there are a bunch more examples . Like praying or saying Christmas in school. There is no true freedom of speech anymore. Get ready for 1984 Facecrime.

Banrus is right on this one It's a new day. People are looking for a reason to be offended . Our kids are programmed in school. And Cuomo cozys up to the environmentalists like he did with the lake level thing . We have to watch out . This could be another way to chip away at the second amendment . Did anyone see the environmentalists want to give Lake Erie human rights ?

If this passes , it will be the beginning of the end of the stocking program as we know it , IMO.

I would want at least surface temp and speed . You can get an add on for most depth finders for like $75 . I used this for a lot of years and did quite well with this . I looked at cables , turned a lot , dragged 1 ,2 or no buckets which were in and out of the water all day . Noted direction of troll and surface speed on the strike . So there are ways without .

Just saw a boating show on tv when I was in North Carolina about this on an Alpha 1 outdrive . The tech said change every 5 years . An oz of prevention is worth a pound of cure .

I fish my dipsey mostly with with flasher fly. There are days they get most of the hits. And days they get none . It's a king killer I use 65 # braid , a,black dipsey , a dream weaver snubber ( not the lure Jensen ,they are to stretchy ) 8 ft of 40# mono ,then lure . I also have a slide diver I like for spoons . Braid , 30 ft of 30# mono , bead for stop , med swivel, 6 ft of 15 # mono. I start on a 1.5 setting and rarely go past 2.5 ,which works on calmer sunny days Mid to late summer I rarely have less than 140 ft of line out and as much as 300 . I start at like 120 and let it click out very slowly while trolling it in the rod holder . Does you reel have a line counter ? Almost essential for this . -
I have been trolling the lake since 1977. I've pretty much always had surface speed . This is good for fishing less than 50 ft. Combined with GPS SOG. For deep water I would watch cable angle ,and got good at it after a lot of years experience. My son kept bugging me to get a Fish Hawk and I finally did . I really don't fish any different than I did before but I find myself depending on it more and more. I've had it 2 seasons. I have the X4 . If you are fairly new at this I feel it is a good investment . Maybe spend less on depth finder or lures or whatever. Fact is , if your lures are not running right , it doesn't matter what you are using . First piece of the fishing equation is Location .Get over fish Second is presentation .

I personally think that most are a bunch of .... bags . I've had it with the whole lot of them . For as big of an ass as trump is he seem to be the only one who cares about us . Heath care was a money / power grab and so is this . I wasn't born yesterday . And if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it our beloved Governor who said there was no room in this state for conservatives ? A couple days before this wind , Cuomo goes public about lowering the lake level , a little late . When he should have been out there in October . It's lip service . Where is all the electric going to come from for this GREEN NEW DEAL ? From the jelly bean field's ? It's all making sense now . No fossil fuel in 12 years ? What do we do with our cars ,boats,lawn mowers ,furnaces etc. ?

I am in North Carolina and the forsithia is in bloom . Also some flowering trees although is 50 and rained for 3 days . 72 today . Back tommorow. -
Imagine that , black green and silver lazer . All the right colors I put glow on almost all my spoons I buy the 2 pack of 2x 5 sheets . Lay the sheet on my work bench , and with a sharp razor free hand a 1/4 " piece like the curve of the edge of the cup of the spoon and stick it onthe back . Then just keep working the sheet across . I don't know if it makes a difference to the fish , but I don't think it hurts . A flash of glow to convince a undecided follower into taking a bite -
I troll kings till they are 5 minutes from running up the creek . I release almost all of them . They all ,with the exception of a very few, swim away . A lot of them strong . I fish a small boat and on the release I clear my other rod first , put the boat in neutral , and reel the fish in . I try to take the hook out while they are still in the water in the net . Or use my net to hook the other treble points and rip the hook out while we the fish is in the water If you drag them around behind the boat for 1/2 an hour and keep them in the boat to unhook them , then the chances of them making it are slim .

When NK s first came out there were like 5 patterns . One was a black blank with diagonal glow green tape and a red eye . Was a killer then and still one of my best . The gator and die-hard and others are just jazzed up versions of it . And really , a lot of the spoon patterns are so close , can the fish tell most days? Location and presentation . FUNDAMENTALS , FUNDAMENTALS, FUNDAMENTALS ! I catch fish from 1.5 to almost 3 mph on NK mags .
