  7. When we jig on skn. We use 1.5 oz smiling bill jig heads painted white with white soft plastic tubes lwith black fleck on them. Try trimming 2/3 of the tube fringe off the tail end of tube. That has produced some big lakers over the years. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Weekend boat traffic from 10 am on is usually high. I have picked up a few nice silvers this summer. Skn is a weird lake. You can have the best day of your life, or take your lures for a wash. Fishing was great through mid June. The last few weeks have been tough, I think because of the unusually hot weather impacting water temps. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Fished Tuesday night n Thursday am. Tuesday night we slammed em’ Thursday morning couldn’t buy a bite. But I bet Thursday Afternoon was great with that nice wind that rolled up. Thermocline is set up around 40-45 ft depending on location of the lake. Marked tons of fish n bait on the west shore mid lake Thursday am. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  12. Picking up Lakers and bows on small spoons, medium spoons n swim baits running everything on surface to 55 ft down over 55-120 feet of water. Pickerel fishing on the south end at dawn and dusk is dynamite with medium sided casting spoons. Small mouth action is picking up. The warm water fish are livening up. 15. I’m not anti warm water fish or warm water fishing. I target walleye and bass often. And do feel that both types of fish can flourish and coexist. Getting to eat walleye is always a treat. And catching these monsters is pretty fun. I just feel that the walleye in large numbers may alter the state of the lake, but time will be the telling factor. I love fishing for and catching the cold water fish. The DEC seems to feel the numbers are down because of the walleye. Is that true? I don’t know. But either way based on the walleye I’ve landed this year they are here to stay and we outta get used to it and target them for for eating. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Hey y’all Today my dad was in town, we call him slappy or ol’ man Gep. At breakfast we joked about a trophy fish n reminisced previous trips with our annual trip to Ontario coming up in 3 weeks. With the showers forecasted we weren’t in a rush to do much this morning. Then we finally got motivated to go out. Me n slappy n the boys finally went out around 1130 for a mid day troll. My five year old started out landing a 16 in salmon in the first five minutes. Then the lead core fired and I was gonna give it to one of the kids, butttt..... it was heavy and I knew it was big. I was expecting a salmon or a bow as I had a deep diver n 3.5 colors of lead core out. As slap reeled it to the boat I thought maybe it’s a gigantic large mouth then at about 50 feet away I could see it was a walleye. Biggest one I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. We fished for another 45 minutes and had some riggers fire but no more fish. I love fishing. I went to DEC meeting in homer this spring and am an advocate for skn remaining a cold water fishery. How the walleye were introduced into this lake I don’t know. This year, I have boated a 25 inch walleye last month and today was 27.5 inches and 7.6lbs. But this trophy will be delightful in my frying pan this evening and making a memory with my father and the kids for generations. Fishing with family and friends is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!! 24. Hey all, We decided last minute to go out Sunday for a few hours. Left Ithaca at 9. Got to Taughannock at 920. The launch is in great shape. An easy 20 to 25 inches of water depth clearance, and Plenty of clearance for the 20 ft center console to get under the bridge and outta the cut. After a battery switch and that off season reconsideration of.... should we go into the wind so if the old girl quits we will get blown home, we were in the water and running well. We headed south and started setting gear once the electronics started marking fish. Set the first rigger and bam. It was on. The bite was on from 945-11 went 4 for 8. With 2 7-9 lb lakers, a 4 lb bow and a dink salmon. Then it shut down. We pulled it at 1215 with family stuff like tree gathering and gutter cleaning to do....and went home to grill. Tons of fish at Taughannock outlet. Lots of marks between 10 and 35 over 35/50. And huge pods of bait and lakers out at 150 in 250/300 ft south 2/3 miles south of Taughannock on the west side.
