Fished from 0700 to Noon. Went 4 for 6. Kept 3 fish. Threw one small Coho back. Kept two Kings about 13 and 15 lbs. Kept one Steelhead about 8 lbs. Lost two nice fish. I fished between Harbor and Smoke Stack. Caught fish from 150-225 FOW. Did not mark ANY BAIT at all. Only marked a few fish in 140 FOW that looked to be cohos down about 50. Spoons caught a couple, but the stud fly and 6" spin doctor (white) was working best. I needed one more for the box, at 11 am, and I was in 200 FOW, and things had gotten slow. So I decided to haul everything in and I went out to deep water. Usually I would have wrapped up and went home, satisfied with my 2 fish, but I wondered what was out there in the deep water. So I went out to 375 FOW, 5 miles straight out from piers. Within 10 minutes had a big hit on the diver, 180 back, the stud fly rig. Landed a nice king, second of the day, and that was my limit. Water temp was 62 surface, in the 200 FOW range it was 52 approx down at the ball as I recall. Out in the 375, I found 42 down 100, about 46 down about 80. Good Luck out there, and please make a report, good or bad. Thanks. Oh, BTW, the Niagara Marine Patrol safety checked my boat when I came in.

Church TX-44 vs Offshore SST Pro Mag
garrymny replied to FishingFool34's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I have the text 44, works good, but for long coppers get the yellow bird extra large. It's 12 inches. Works better for me with high drag stuff. Also, change the clip to a Sam's pro release. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I was very frustrated with the clips on my inline boards. They will not hold braid. So, I replaced them with Sam's pro releases. $10 each, worth every penny. See pictures. No more problems. (Update- that was wishful thinking!) The Sam's won't release the braid, it just cuts into the rubber. And the OR 16s are a pain in a$$ to use, to get the braif behind the pin is not enough, the braid still slips, and the line tightens so the tattle flag doesn't work. Try spinning or looping the braid....NOT easy). I have used the inlines with success and no problems with mono line, but not braid. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I've seen these magnet Gizmo s on office supply stores, or to use on refrigerator.... Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I attach it 6 inches behind the ball. Then I run a spoon off the release, right above, and only 4 feet back. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Best Downrigger and Dipsey Trolling Line

Oh, use an Albright knot to tie them all together. Easy and very strong. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Best Downrigger and Dipsey Trolling Line
garrymny replied to ksc4488's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I will agree with wire to the dipseys, no prob with fleas. And for riggers I run braid, with a 30 foot floro leader, and if necessary I switch to sea flea or 30# mono. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Jay is right. When t installed my lowrance autopilot interfaced to my old Grady White's steering pump, the fittings that came with the unit would not work. Went too hydraulic shops, lowrs, Hector's, nothing. I went to West Marine in Buffalo and they had what I needed. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Lost items at Wilson cleaning station
garrymny replied to Fishmaster 196's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Bummer. Once I left my new cooler at my Mom and Dad's in PA. About 2 months later I was down there, and I asked Dad about my cooler and Dad said he sold it at his yard sale for $10! He didn't know whose it was. But he said don't worry, Uncle Ronny bought it (his brother). Would you believe my Mom called my Uncle and he would not return my $60 cooler! He said he bought it fair and square! I lost all respect for him right there. Moral of the story is, I doubt you'll ever see it again. -
I was on Erie Saturday, and I have never seen cottonwood so bad. Yes, it is worse than fleas!. Very hard to get off the line, and stops you reeling just like fleas. Harder to remove than fleas. I also worry about my engine getting clogged up with them. Must be bad on the cooling orifices. Hopefully LO will be clear of them.

Olcott Friday June 8 report.

Hope so, I'm out of Walleye! -
On a calm day with no current; with the probe down a foot or so, the surface speed readout, the probe readout, and the GPS speed on your fishfinder should all read the same. If not, something needs calibrated. Once set, yes you will get a different speed at the down probe, but I was just saying it is not that huge, on most days/areas. Usually within a half or one MPH of my surface probe and GPS speed. Of course, some days and areas it can be more different, depending on current.

Been using mine now for about 20 trips. Works great. But, the programming and going between screens is a learning experience. Love hunt mode and drag mode. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Olcott Friday June 8 report.
garrymny replied to garrymny's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
The fishing is slow this year as far as I'm concerned. Both for walleye on erie out of the small boat harbor in Buf, as well as salmon in LO off Olcott. Last year was slow on Erie for me until July then we found lots of walleye off CATT creek. Western migration?? Maybe. But the salmon fishing last year was good from May on, this year its slow. Its funny, seems like east of olcott is doing better this spring. -

I always fish out of Olcott. Keep watching the reports for the depth when it comes closer to the time you are coming. Great facility. Launch Ramps, and toilets, fish cleaning station. Usually good fishing. When in doubt start in 100 and troll North.
