Fleas were bad Sat, even with 30lb mono on riggers they still piled up to the point it would pull outta the releases. Wire was just as bad, LC and copper weren't nearly as bad thankfully. Had to pull and clean rigger lines every 20 mins, every 30 or so for the wire...got old real quick. Might have fished 15 mins out of every hour with all lines in the water.

For wire I found rubbing the wire with the backside of a plastic knife makes them fall off in gobs. Doesn't work as well on mono though.

I don’t have room above to attach the releases. High speed riggers and how low my boat/riggers are to the water leaves me with only 4-6” of bare cable after the autostop stops everything. I’d have to install risers if I wanted to attach directly to the cable.

To the weight

Yeah I’m talking about pinch style releases. Why would having a probe be an issue?
-
Yeah I kinda figured I could prolly get away with something like that since the cable would see almost no significant load where I would have to worry about it. I didn't think about TSC though, I'll have to check there.

So one of my rigger releases pulled out of the crimp on the leader this past weekend. I have been wanting longer ones for a while (mine are only prolly 8-10" long), what do you guys use for leader material? Any issues with using something like a 36" leader to the release? I was looking and thinking about using some 1/16" commercial grade cable (vinyl coated) I saw on Lowes website, I also thought I remember reading about ppl using weedwacker string. I looked into that and all the string I saw was a hex shape and I wasn't sure how that would hold up in the crimp. Also I don't have a heavy duty swaging tool, only a small crimper that you would use for electrical wire. The heavy duty hand swagers are kind of expensive and I have been fishing for years and never needed one before and don't really wanna buy one and never need it again... any suggestions on this?

Sliders on your riggers are a good way to get more lines in the water without going broke. I sent you a PM with some stuff I have laying around you might be able to use. -
Shimano Tekota 700 is pretty close to the 55 size, the Tekota 800 is larger. They are opposite ends of the price spectrum but the Tekota is a LC.

I was wondering the same thing? I guess if you buried the line deep in the release or wrapped it around the release? That could cause the line to break when I fish hit i guess... I have never found a need to put the line in more than halfway personally. I also twist the line 3-4 times and then put the loop in the release, never had anything break on me and I have only ever used the pinch style releases.

Overnight Parking?
FishingFool34 replied to PhlyanPan's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Fair Haven Beach State park you could just pay the $16 and get a campsite for the night and park there with no issues. The launch is right there in the park anyway, not to mention day use/launch fee is I think $10 and would be included if you got a campsite. -
Ill be out in Mexico Saturday in my 18 footer... figure I should be ok until about 10-11am. By then the 80*+ temps will have me off the water anyway. 6am-11am looks to be under 10mph which is my cut off point for if I fish or not.

Only thing I have ever used a rubber band for is to "fix" a slider to a certain depth I want it to run at. Otherwise just get some scotty or offshore pinch style releases and you will be fine.

If it wasn’t for ppl putting up reports I wouldn’t have a clue where to start fishing every time I go out. My question is what are the deciding factors everyone uses to pick their starting spots? Knowing what worked yesterday is far from a sure thing the next day as we all know. Even once the lake sets up what makes you decide to fish the thermocline in 150fow or 300fow?

Try being a weekend guy in a smaller boat that can only get out 1-2 times a month and needing the weather to really cooperate on top of that! Not to mention sitting at work all week reading great reports and looking at everyone else's fishing pictures!
