Based on 3 different marine forcasts that I just looked at for mexico bay, they seem consistent. Winds 5 to 7 knots ,seas 1' or less for the next 4 or so days. I'm sure out at the 100+ it'll be a little stiffer but overall pretty nice. Don't take my word for it, things change in minutes with chances of T storms. Boats ready to go, hope to see everyone out taking a well deserved breather. Now all we need is fish lol. Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
How do I start?
Low Baller replied to Gregger300's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Good morning Gregger. I run a small rig with pretty much the same set up. Let me just start by saying it's not easy but the reward is off the hook. Getting everything set is the easy part. You're 1st hookup will make you want a bigger boat. Lol. I stick to 4 rods with 1 passenger, sometimes 2 depending on lake conditions. You'll hear alot of debate about temp this time of year, focus on the marks, although I like to find temp breaks when possible. Usually try to keep gear just above marks, with one rigger tight to bottom with a spoon for the occasional brown or laker. Tried running core down the slew a few times but was too much to deal with. Run speeds between 2 and 3, lots of S turns, and a ton of patience. Too much to tell, you'll figure it out. Just a precaution, be sure you keep an eye on the sky, make sure you're crew are familiar with safety protocol, and don't leave your comfort zone. Not trying to tell you what to do, but that lake has no mercy. Good luck, be safe, and have a blast. Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

I'm no pro, but my procedure is based on the day before reports. Weather and wave 1st, fish 2nd. Running a small craft, there are 3 points of contact that are my main usage. If the dunes and north are hot, Sandy's the closest . If the stacks are hot (power plant ), Mexico is closest. Pine grove is shallow but puts you in the estuary right in the middle. I don't know how familiar you are with the bay, but basically I like to cut a line between the dunes and the stacks. 90 to 150 '. With the threat of thunderstorms I always want to have the shortest run to port. Pine grove gives me the best options. Hope this helps, there's alot of guys that know better than me. We all need a little help this year. Can't think of a better way to find clarity than fighting a fat salmon in late summer. Hell, I'll take a 20lb laker any day. See you out front, I'll be the idiot in the misty harbor with the big grin on his face. Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

And it's folks like yourself that have taught me most of what I know. That's what I like about this sight. And I'm finally starting to put faces to names which is very cool. I'm just a fat guy in a little boat. Been playing the late season game for about 15 yrs now. If I can put a couple in the freezer each year, I'm a happy boy. I usually launch at pine, get to 60+ and set gear head north. Depends on wind. I'm small so I prefer a tail wind for return. Don't mind the push on the out . Low and slow. Never tried meat rigs, though I experiment with alewife oil on flys. Hard to tell, when they're active they'll take just about anything. Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

That's what I like to see. Do a little scout before we get up there. Ty, aka the Red Headed Yetti, is so pumped. He even bought a pair of inflatable pfds and glow sticks for me. I might have to launch out of Sandy if the fish are still around the 150. That's a hump from pine grove. Hoping there's bait in the 100. No problem with under 2' but like to stay in my comfort zone. Thanks for the info folks, fingers crossed. Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

This season I started noticing small dime to quarter size bubbles in the paint on my transom. Upon scratching off the paint bubbles I'm finding small pinholes corroded through the aluminum. 2 questions. 1 , what's causing it,and 2, proper repair? The boat is 22 yrs old, I have used it a few times in saltwater for flounder, and I did replace the fuse bus 2 seasons ago. Electrolysis ? Magnetism? Or just showing her age? For now I'm just going to silicone the spots, she's getting an overhaul this winter. Thanks Sent from my SM-G900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
