Bald Eagle September 1 am
NymphO replied to Jeremy Goodison's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Was a great day out there. Another fantastic trip with Capt Jeremy. My favorite line of the day.... Jeremy- "my rigger ! My rigger!" I look over (from my side of the boat) and the rod is bouncing Jeremy "grab it !" Me- confused Jeremy- " I just poured a fresh cup of coffee Jeremy's confidence that we would pull a double with the time spent between two kids pulling in a 10 color was spot on. That's how good the day was... 4 on board and we all had plenty of reel time. Making memories that will last forever. And these kids think we are just fishing... -
To be blunt, they all suck. Direction is mostly correct on them all, but actual speed and wave height is rarely accurate. I base mine off a combo of weather underground, wind finder, and noaa. I also watch the olcott webcam like a hawk prior to a trip. I've pretty much figured out what's actually going on by that cam. If you find one that's 90% accurate, please, please, please share with us !!!

Thanks for the links. I will give them a read. This is basically my 3rd season on ladyO and 2nd season with my boat. LOU in general has been beyond helpful, as well as getting out there and learning the hard way when it comes to catching them, but I want to learn as much as I can about the fishery in general beyond just "fishing". I appreciate what happens behind the scenes, and take ALOT for granted. I think we all owe it to the lake, and each other to do more than just go fishing.

Bald Eagle 8/24 Tourney
NymphO replied to Jeremy Goodison's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Fantastic day to be on the water. I for one am glad you didn't call it. May have been my first tourney, but it sure wasn't my first roller coaster in a tinny, and I have a feeling it's not my last. Definitely alot of ups and downs today..... Literally. Great bite, great company, and surely memories made. Tough to forget losing 10 colors of lead on solid smash of the rod when you have an empty box, or having another man jump on your back to net a fish over you as you hand line in a green mature. Controlled chaos. Love it !! Thanks for the invite brother !!! EDIT: to attest to Jeremy's character, he answered honestly about 8x that he was NOT in the LOC -

Rod Holder question
NymphO replied to maisie's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
If your running dipsys, and trolling / moving, you aren't gonna have a rod just fall out of a holder. I had a titelok holder with a spair rod in it fall last year, dropped tip down in the water. Thankfully I was moving and the pressure held the rod in even though it was basically straight down towards the water. I have since ditched titeloks as they do not have, well, tite loks..... -
Preferred Down Speed and Rigger Lead Length
NymphO replied to idn713's topic in Open Lake Discussion
2.0-3.2. I'll hold 2.5-2.8 as a standard. If it's working I stay with it. If nothing is working, I'll do some zig zags and if outside lines fire, speed it up, if insides fire, slow it down. I also like to hit idle on the troll master if things aren't working, to entice those followers. Tighter leads with bigger baits like spinnys and meat setups, and a touch longer with spoons but typically 12-20'. This is how I like to run my riggers, and I will be following this thread. Last trip 35 rigger fired 14 back and that king was 5' out of the water before I could grab the rod... -
Dunkirk, NY Fishing
NymphO replied to Char_Master's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Well, since the cat is out of the bag... It's just one of those randoms I throw down there, and it HAS worked. I used mc rockets in a goby-ish pattern with a carbon14 (minion) head, no flasher. Nothing like rolling up to the docks of a walleye tournament with some shiney Twinkies blowing in the wind... In a world of renoski's and worm harnesses, I was alone. Lol. But that is "thing". Throwing stupid baits out there and loving it when the intended species hits the net. Like Friday, I sent a longA bomber out on a 9 color and it took our biggest king. If I was targeting Lakers, I'd have a straight gambler program out there though..... Aaaaaaand maybe something stupid too. -

Dunkirk, NY Fishing

Dunkirk has a decent launch with parking. I've been hearing alot of Lakers being caught on a walleye program. Most of those reports are 100fow. Truth be told, I don't know of too many guys that target them, but those that do seem to have no problem finding them and catching them according to pics / social media posts. Last year we got a tank that had to be close to 20# in 90fow on a rigger with a clean meat rig (yes, I ran it for walleyes) right in front of Dunkirk. Hit the deep water, go low and slow and you should do fine. -
Well said my man. Your passion for the sport doesn't compare to your passion for helping others. Fantastic job on raising that amount of money for a great cause. You really set the bar for the rest of us. Thanks for encouraging me to join RFAC as I see it will be an annual event I'll look forward to. Most important, I'm certain your making Evie proud. Hats off to you !

Capt Vince, without sounding like a brown noser, that really means a lot coming from a seasoned pro like yourself. It was my pleasure to be involved ! I look at our box, and then look at what we were able to raise and I feel alot better about the day! As far as being hardcore in a tinny.... You are not wrong.
