  1. Rollers have been known to dent aluminum hulls. Bunks offer a lot more support. The hull truth has several articles on using pvc, starboard, or similar plastics over wood bunks. Think I'm going to go that route. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. There's a lot of different options for slides that go right over top of the old carpet. I'm actually looking at making my 8' bunks into 10' to offer a little more transom support. Probably put pvc board right over the new 2x6x10. I have an aluminum hull so theoretically this should work as well as the slides Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Looks like this would be very similar to what the sliders are made from. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I'm actually looking at 3/4" x 5" x 8' pvc trim board available at Lowes for about $20 ea. Says they can be cut and machined with normal woodworking tools. A bull nose edge could be routed on all edges. Screws counter sunk. These are made for outside use and have a 25 year warranty. I did find an article where someone made bunks out of these. 5. Launching and recovering my boat is a bear especially where I cannot power it on to the trailer. It has carpet bunks. Was thinking of adding sliders over top the carpet. Have read where some people use pvc or composite deck boards. Anyone have experience with this? Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Thanks rolmops. I cant imagine how much actual time was spent on it. Probably dont want to know. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I absolutely love the xi 5. Have had no issues with it in 2 1/2 yrs and use it alot as an auto pilot to hold heading lock. Cant really say anything bad about Minnkota. Have buddies that have them and like them. I just did get the new lowrance carbon so havent got it tied into the xi5 yet. The elite 7 hdi was not compatible. I moved it to the rear starboard side. May link it to the carbon. A new Itroll speed control tied to the kicker rounds out my electronics. I think Im about done. Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. I'm not sure if cold weather made for more denser foam or not. All told it took two 2 gal. units. I think the hardest part of the whole job was removing the contact cement from the sides. I found that adhesive remover from home depot worked but it was a lot of elbow grease. Ended up putting epoxy on sides using aluminum angle to transition from floor to sides and aluminum floor transition strips to transition to the carpet above the epoxy on sides. 9. Painted the transom with untinted epoxy, installed 2 pads for the transducers. These were made from cutting board. Installed kicker. I also made storage boxes for the rear seats. Installed the rod holders. Now 6 months later, all that remains is to put on the big motor. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. The transom was still solid but did show some deterioration in a few small areas. Those areas were removed and replaced with epoxy coated ply. A 3/16" piece of aluminum was shaped and bolted to the outside of transom for extra support. I used the left over piece of aluminum to support the top of the bow where the motorguide xi 5 trolling motor is mounted. The front deck was still solid so I left it as is, but the sides of both consoles were rotted. So they were rebuilt and painted with epoxy. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I made a new rear deck that was also given 4 coats of epoxy. I used stainless piano hinges in the rear so the deck could be raised giving access to the battery and oil injector compartments. The deck was secured using jeep hood latches on each side. I made a new vinyl curtain and installed it with snaps. New battery tie downs secure batteries. 12. A word of caution. Dont use treated ply as it could react with the aluminum. I used stainless steel screws to attach the new floors. An approximate 1/4" gap was left between the floor and the foam so both could breathe. Incidentally I did seal the foam with clear polyurethane before installing floor. Drains were installed and sealed around with marine silicone Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Tore out all the old foam. Poured new 2lb. Marine foam from US Composites. Rasped down the areas that rose above the the stringers. I used 3/4" exterior ply for the floor. This was coated with 4 coats of Sherwin Williams 646 2 part marine epoxy, top bottom and sides. Shark skin additive added to final top coat for non slip surface. (Tired of the blood trails in the carpet) Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Started with this and tore all the old floor out. It was a pain. Floor had carpet and had contact cement in all the the screw heads. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. I started this project in Oct and just did finish it. Was able to work on it some thru the winter as it was stored inside tho it was in an unheated bldg. Note to those pouring foam. Warm weather is definitely better. Foam rises much better and it takes less foam. It was in the low 50s when i poured and it took much more foam than it should have. I will post some pics of the rebuild. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. US Composites out of Fla. has the best price on marine foam. Just replaced foam and floor in my boat. Note the very center and deepest part of the hull has no foam. This is where water drains to the bilge area Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Here is what the adapters look like. They are real strong. Have a couple on my downriggers as well. Don't want to sell the adapters since I use them on other rod holders Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I used these pedestals with the track adapters from fish usa. Thats what the knotches were for. They are 6 " tall Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Have stoped there many times. Always hooked me up with the latest hot spoons, flashers, flies etc. Have never steered me wrong. Always caught fish on their recommendations Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. I have a pair of big jon pedestals. I can measure and send u a pic if interested. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. My garmin gps was camera compatible. Wireless camera was $70. Has worked flawlessly for 2 years. Camera attached to top of license plate and power cord attaches to back up light wire. Picture comes up on gps screen. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Sold, thought I marked it sold. Sorry Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Go to the cisco web site. Gives the specs . Part # DRMOT. Rated for 20 lbs. I know this will work on my BJ Captains paks Which are only rated for 12 lbs. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Cisco will fit several big jon riggers. Fish USA has this motor for $139. Even cheaper if u use one of their discount offers. I would rather spend an extra 40 over a rebuild and have a new motor. They are also supposed to be stronger. Check compatibility tho. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Ive decided to put off my main painting till next year, spent too much on the interior rebuild. I'm going to paint my transom only, with Sherwin Williams 646 epoxy. Prep for it is scuff lightly. Wash with denatured alcohol and paint immediately Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
