We had 8 hookups by 9am just west of Olcott in 90 to 110 fow then the fish just disappeared. Was thinking they might have gone to deeper water but I was having a little engine trouble and didn't want to get too far from the marina. Carbon 14 took 3 fish early before the sun got higher in the sky and we got 3 off of a meat rig set on the downrigger at 65ft. Here are a few pics. Check out the little guy that hit a spoon as big as he is. Lol -

I'm coming up to Olcott/Newfane marina tomorrow afternoon and fishing until Sunday afternoon. I just want to throw this out there. I'm looking for some guys who might want to communicate during those days on the water. I think I'm the perfect partner, lol. I don't enter tournaments, I don't eat salmon so I only keep a few for friends that request some. It's a big lake and its difficult to cover by yourself. Especially when you only get out 3 or 4 weekends a year. I have no problem letting someone know where I am, what I'm seeing on my graph and what I'm catching during the day. I'm looking to team up with some guys who feel the same way. Let me know by responding here. Thanks...

I fished out of Olcott this weekend. Saturday we fished from the power plant east all day from 35fow out. I even ran out to 400fow just for the heck of it, had a nice king on right away out there but lost it 15ft from the side of the boat. Sunday got a tip to try the bar so we ran down there. I have never seen so many huge bait balls in my life!! All morning my screen was covered in bait with nice arcs all around. 110 to 130fow had 3 quick hookups and then things just shut down. Managed a nice Laker at about 1:30 PM but that was it. All total in 2 days we could only muster 4 kings, 1 lake trout and 5 misses. I'll be back up next weekend to try again. I'm still learning this craft as this is only my 2nd year fishing for salmon but I am addicted. What a rush when that rod goes off!! I'll just keep trying, learning from successes and mistakes. The experience is what it's all about... -

Which inline planners
Chinook Rookie replied to dickey's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Thanks, just ordered 4 of those releases and will give them a try this spring. I use tru trips behind my boards for depth instead of leadcore or copper. I like them because you don't have to put out (and then have to reel back in) 400ft of line to get your bait down to where you want it. -

Has anyone ever run Church's walleye inline boards for Kings? Was wondering if a big king would pull the board under water and create a mess? -

Hi Gill, you may not remember me but we docked beside one another last May in newfane. I have the Pro-Line 251. I appreciate how helpful you guys were. Can you tell me besides color, do you find a certain brand ie, Moonshine, Dreamweaver, Stinger, etc. Is more effective for you than others? I used mostly Dreamweaver magnums last year but the tape and paint seem to come off them easy. Curious if there is a better brand... thanks. -

2018 was my first time on Lake Ontario. I had never caught a King before. Fished 2 weekends the end of May and 2 weekends the end of August out of Olcott. What a blast!! I am now hooked. We caught most of our fish on spoons so I am wanting to add to my arsenal this off season. What brand and colors do you salmon veterans prefer during early season and then, do you change to different spoons and colors later in the season? I know this conversation has been had many times before but every year thinks can change, new brands and colors hit the market, etc. Any information you would be willing to share is greatly appreciated!

Heading up to Olcott to fish this evening and Saturday. I have been fishing for walleye all summer on lake Erie so haven't been out since early June. If anyone else is going out of Olcott and wants to team up, let me know. We could fish different depths to try and find fish and then radio the other boat if we find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Went out for my first time ever last week. Launched out of olcott. Most of the people there are very helpful. Ask around about what depth the fish are in. Depending on wind direction and water temps we caught fish anywhere from 220 to 420fow all on spoons. Had success on downriggers and dipsys. Just have fun and stay patient. You'll eventually find them and then its game on.
