Some pics show a Johnson 3 cyl, some an Evinrude, originally a Chrysler? The OMC 3 cyl outboards were one of the best ever made imho. What's on it now?

I was not aware of this, but nothing to do with tuning or maintenance, which is always by the book, it was fine when pulled out in fall, power trim was fine when the lower unit fluid changed. Evidently there's a short in the trim we weren't aware of from winter storage that affects the starter. Should have started it in advance before trying to demo but it had been raining, otherwise it would have been fixed first, stuff happens with boats, it was not anticipated or would have been corrected, now that we're aware it'll be corrected before it goes. We'd never leave the dock in a vessel not ready, Dad was a Navy man that has always been the way things are done.. Selling because we've bought an aluminum 19 for easier trailering from NY to VT.

I'm 300 miles away, I have no idea what my son did or didn't do this morning, but the boat has been maintained as I said and it will not leave my yard unless ready.

That is a huge amount of work. I've done transoms and floors in 3 aluminum boats and they're considerably easier, and they also have better value when done, but I doubt I'd do it again either. My ProSport is all composite so no rot worries, I wonder why all boats aren't made that way? Nice job, and at least you've got some experience now before you do the Grady.

Price reduced from $9000 to $8799. These typically go for around $12-13K in Florida, great boat for offshore.

No hour meter, my guess, 5-600? Only got out 3-4 times the last few years, getting old I guess.

Well after working on both OBs and I/Os as a "professional" for 20 yrs, we'll have to agree to disagree I guess. Nothing to do with manufacturing cost, it's driven by the market all right, ie: what people want to buy. I get "Trade Only" magazine from "Soundings" exclusively for the industry every month, and sales of big bigger biggest OB boats are going crazy. People buying $350k boats with 4 or 5 300hp outboards are buying them because they want them, not because they are force fed them, I/Os are sittng unsold on dealer lots, but because they've figured out they are better all around: easier to maintain, lighter, more power per pound, easier to change if necessary, better on gas. &c. Numerous mfr's that were all I/O before are bringing out new O/B models, many offshore makers, plus even Cobalt & Fountain for example, because that's where sales are going. ...TEHO, but I see 30-40yr old outboards still being used all the time, and they are increasingly power of choice for boat makers previously exclusively I/O, for many reasons, but mostly because people want them.

nice Crestliner! Well I worked summers off from teaching for many years as a marine mechanic on Lake Champlain. I'd way prefer to work on and run outboards, modern ones don't have more issues, in fact the reverse is true... plus they don't have things like huge bellows openings in the transom that can send a boat to the bottom if they leak... I've seen it happen more than once! There's significant reasons why big offshore boats and boats in general are going increasingly to O/Bs and sales of I/Os are dropping sharply! Agree they're harder to net around, but no I/Os for me thanks! I bought an Islander 190V new in 1989, with a Johnson 110, it was a great boat!
