  1. I have a 1987 Evinrude 70hp (E70TLCUR) motor that is stalling out when I put it into gear. Under throttle she seems to do OK but at low idle, and with a load she stalls and sounds like she's running only on 2 cylinders. I put new OEM champion spark plugs in it, have run some seafoam thru it, changed the fuel filter, and gave the carbs a quick spray cleaning. At first was leaning towards it being a fuel/carb issue but now am thinking it might be electrical? Not sure though so if anyone has any thoughts or ideas of what to check out, I'd appreciate it. Also wanted to note that I checked the plugs tonight and the top one had a lot of oil on it which makes me think this is the one that wasn't firing?
  2. Great report and seemed like good fishing! No good about hitting the deer, but hopefully it all ended up ok
  3. Spoiler: my dumbass had it in night mode so it was all backwards 😅
  4. Anyone know how to change the color setting on the chart views for a Garmin Echomap 73sv? I'm used to charts showing a darker shade of blue for shallower water and then a lighter shade or white for deeper water, similar to the Navionics chart viewer. However, the charts on my new unit are showing the opposite. Darker blue for deeper and lighter for shallower and it's kinda driving me nuts. I've seen the shallow shading rules in the settings, but this appears to be something different. Probably something stupid that I've missed but just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience with this.
  5. I used to run braid, but switched over to cable because the fleas would stick to the braid like crazy
  6. Appreciate the honesty on saying you have no idea what that one lure was. 75% of the time when I see the reports and folks talking about specific colors/names of lures I have to google what they look like.
  7. Forgot to mention we did snag an old dipsey diver off the bottom in about 60 fow. Think she'd been down there for a bit so if yall lost one we found it 😅
  8. Launched at 9 and called it at 4 with one 1 laker to show. Slow day filled with sun, bugs, muddy water, and flat calm conditions. Launched out of Mexico and headed left. Basically tried from the launch to the plant in 7-20 fow. Water was cloudy pretty much the whole way. Saw a couple boats take some fish but nothing for us in there. We tried sticks and spoons mostly but no takers in there. Was looking to get rid of the skunk on the boat so went out to around 80 fow and the water was still dirty and muddy out there. It seemed like it was everywhere. Found some clearer water more east and thanked a laker for kicking the skunk off. Took a death trap to get him. Slow, buggy day on the water is still 1000% better than being in the office so good day still! Thanks again PD just wasn't our day.
  9. Thanks PD, actually taking tomorrow off to try and get out after them so appreciate the response and intel! Thanks again
  10. A bit late with my report here, but launched out of Mexico last Saturday around 8:30. Lot was a lot fuller than I was expecting but good to see folks out and after them on the nice clear day. This was my first outing of the year on my boat and it was a chilly one. Winds out of the north made it feel even colder and gave the water a decent chop for my 16' boat to start the day. Right out of the launch the milk chocolate water gave way to some nice green/brown so we didn't go far to set up. Worked 7-15; of water east of the launch and only landed 1 small brown on a blue/silver stickbait behind an inline board. Only have tried for browns less than a handful of times so wasn't mad at it and saw others out having pretty good sucess. We worked out deeper around 11:30 to check to make sure my depth raider was still good after sitting all year, so threw on some gamlber rigs and hammerheard cowbells. Trolled in about 70' and took a 10lb laker on the downrigger with wonderbread on the business end at about 1.7-1.9 mph (you'll never guess where I was from the pic lol). We also had something rip a dipsey off that was out 160' with a raspberry carbon 14 spoon on it. Fish wasn't on the line long before it broke off, but seemed sizable. One thing I found interesting was that the surface temp was about 40F but near bottom was around 48F. I don't get out much so maybe it's common this time of year, but first I've seen that.
  11. Bit late posting this, but me and a buddy went out with Captain Nick of Soco Outdoor Sport Fishing on Sunday. We were his first boat outing of the year and the plan was to jig up some lakers. Launched out of Deans around 7 and the water was a bit low but no issues with his 23' Crestliner. Weather was a bit chilly, 28F at launch, but lake was dead calm so no complaints there. Got to the first spot, dropped our jigs down and nothing. Nothing for about 5-7 mins. To me, this is normal fishing. Hell, to me and my buddy it's normal to go 5 hours without a fish so we didn't think too much of it, but Captain Nick moved us about 20 yards and then it was game on. Me and my buddy troll for lakers on Owasco quite a, bit but I have to say, jigging them is a whole different ballgame. Captain Nick gave us some great guidance on what to do and 30 seconds after moving to the new spot we had our first hook up. On the day we ended up bringing 40 lakers to the surface and lost probably about another 20. Average weight of the first was likely around 4-5 lbs and most were solid healthy fish with maybe a handful having lamprey scars on them. Did bring one up with a little lamprey right on the top of its head but we relieved the fish of that parasite. Fishing was so good Captain Nick handed me an ice rod and I jigged one up with that. The whole experience was video game like and very Chuck Norris like (Chuck Norris doesn't go fishing. He goes catching). Like I said, me and my buddy are not used to catching stuff so during our first double (one of 6) all we could was laugh. Overall though, it was the most lbs of fish I've ever boated in a day and wanted to post the great experience in hopes that others could enjoy something similar.
  12. Launched out of cape at 9 with my brother and his son and tried around the coal docks/ breakwall with no luck. Didnt even see any fish. Made a run down towards the light house to try a few other spots but the same results there too. At about noon we headed back down river towards Carelton and fished the head for a bit. There we at least so some fish but it was just a few drums swimming around. Pulled and headed towards the foot and then just started putting around hoping for anything so the my nephew could reel something in. Finally around 1 we found a decent school of perch and started to pick away at them in about 16-17 fow. Mostly smalls but we were just thrilled to be reeling in something other than our bait (fatheads). My nephew got a handful and seemed to be having fun so that's what made the whole day worth it. Had to head back at 2 and could have kept enough to make a nice fish fry dinner but that wasn't the goal today. Main goal with to get some laughs and smiles so mission accomplished. 13. Any reports of late? I'm going to be taking my nephew out of Cape over the weekend and looking to get him on some perch. Was thinking of trying around the coal docks and break wall first and then venture out from there. I've heard the water is low so going near Carleton worries me and my prop a bit, but may end up going out there.
  14. They were pretty manageable yesterday. Think there was only one time my rod eyelets got clogged and that was probably after an hour of it trolling. All in all, not bad. Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Hit up Owasco today. Been a bit under the weather recently so was nice to get out for a solo trip. Having it be a beautiful day was just an added bonus. Set up on the east side close to shore so I could try and hide from the decent chop I wasn't expecting. Fished the first hour marking good fish and a good amount of bait around 60-80 FOW, but couldn't trigger any strikes. Had cowbells and gambler rigs on with my fownriggers near the bottom. Finally had a good release about 2 hours I and knew it was a good one. Good enough that it took some line from me and just seemed like a angry laker. About 10 min later I get it near the boat and can see it's a sizeable fish but a bit too green for a laker. Ended up being about a 10lb pike that hammered a trout alien cowbell and gambler set up. That was a first and one of the last things I was expecting dragging bottom in 80fow with bells. This fish had been feeding well with a huge belly and got it back in the water as soon as I could. About 2 more hours go by and got a couple small lakers doing the same program but they bit on a green frog cowbell with a bull frog gambler. Decided to try trolling to the west side of the lake and had a good hit and release but no one was home. Trolled the west side for a bit in about 70-90fow and the screen looked more sad with no bites either. Back to the east side and while crossing the lake in 160 down 75 , got another hit. This one felt weird for cowbells again but still felt like it was decent size. Get it to the boat and try to net it I can see it's a beautiful steelhead. Again, no expected but welcomed. Net job didn't go as well this time as my first attempt I couldn't get under the fish with the net and as soon as this fish felt the net she went nuts jumping all over the place. Thought for sure she'd pop off but she stayed on and gave me another shot at netting. This time it went worse cause I still couldn't get it under the fish and she was headed for my rigger. Set my net down to bring up the rigger only to then turn back and see my net just slide off the back of the boat and down into the deep blue. Well...guess I can't mess up the net job without a net [emoji28] so ended up just grabbing the leader and pulling this thing in like a bass. Beautiful fish the was probably around 7-8lbs. Was too sad over the net to weigh it [emoji1787]. Again, had never caught anything other than lakers with cowbells so the beautiful day ended up being a great day too (minus the net) Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Went out on 9/3 as well with a buddy from about 10-4 out of Fair Haven. Was pretty rough when we got out there, but died down later on. Our report was very similar to yours as we saw most marks in 130 fow near the bottom but couldn't buy a bite so trolled out to about 250 fow looking for takers. Less marks and no bites our there either. Trolled back into the 130 fow range where tons of marks were still hanging out. There were so many marks that we figured they were stageing kings so tried meat, flys, j plugs, spoons and got no takers on any of those. Tossed on a cowbell and got a decent laker and got a dink laker on a spoon when we were picking up. Was happy we didn't get skunked but was surprised to get a laker in there. Guess the marks weren't all staging kings?
  17. Think my Yamaha 4hp/4 stroke kicker is leaking oil out of this little hole on the lower unit? Did some googling and think this might be a weep hole and might have a bad seal somewhere if that's the case? Don't have much experience with outboards so wasn't sure what's going on or what might cause this. Anyone have any thoughts as to what might be going on here? TIA Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Took the day off on Monday and was targeting lakers on Owasco. Hit both the east and west side of the lake and got fish, but the west side seemed more productive for us that day. Went 7/8 with my buddy getting the biggest at 8.2 lbs. That was the biggest laker my boat has seen in my limited trolling experience, but got him on a trout alien cowbell and gambler rig. We were fishing 70-90 FOW with the riggers near the bottom as much as possible. Best speed for us was around 1.7mph at the ball. Marked lots of bait too, which was nice cause hadn't seen much the last few outings. Overall, if you want lakers on owasco I'd recommend gambler rigs and with some hammerhead cowbells. Lots of good folks on here sharing information on what to use and how, which has helped my learning curve dramatically, so hope this helps too. Best of luck. 19. Made a quick trip out on Owasco this morning. First time since the 4th of July weekend and was very happy to see the fleas have subsided. On the flip side though, the water was very green and cloudy. Not sure if it was from the recent rains but the water clarity was terrible. Might have been able to see my rigger ball 2' down and that was it. Set up in about 80' looking for lakers and 20 min after set I got my first of the day on a trout alien set up. Seemed like a good omen but could only manage to land one other laker for the day on a death trap. All in all pretty slow but can't beat this beautiful weather Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  20. Talked to Kurt at Kell and he mentioned that it should work 30-40' down even without coated cable so he didn't think it had anything to do with exposed metal/cable. He figured it was a connection issue somehow. Ended up getting a coax adaptor to connect the antenna to the display instead of using the 20' of coax cable that came it. Touched on some dielectric grease to the coax connections and works good now. Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Hit up owasco yesterday with a buddy to try and give the new depth raider a try. Didnt get out till about noon and was greeted with a pretty good SW wind. Was hot so the wind actually was nice. Got a new to me depth raider so gave it a shot for the first time. Not completely sold on it yet, but worked the east side of lake from about 1-4pm with our biggest (5.6 lb) coming from 80' down on the bottom. Fleas were atrocious though. If you went more than 20 min in the water you'd have a hard time reeling it in without clogging your rod eyes. Moved over to the east side of the lake as the sky got a bit darker and found good marks and hungrier fish. Finished the day by boating 7 lakers total and 4 of them came in our last hour of fishing on the west. Trout alien cowbells took all but one fish. Everything caught the fleas though as they weren't near as picky[emoji38]. Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Thanks again all for the help on this Ended up getting in touch with Kurt at Kell and explained to him what was going on. He was baffled by me noting I could get it to work in a bucket with my hand in it. Kind of proud and sad when he told Mr he'd never heard of that [emoji1787] He was thinking it was more of a connection issue instead of my klincher terminal, so I ended up buying an adaptor to just plug the antenna into the back of the display. Put di-electric grease on all my connection coax connection points and it worked! Almost lost the probe 20 mins later when I got hung up on bottom but was able to scramble backwards for it to come loose [emoji38] thanks again everyone for the help! 23. I grew up in Cape and during the fall you would see some trying to run up kents creek every now and then if the water level was high enough. Again, not all the common but was still cool to see a few.
  24. Awesome fish and great work! Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Thanks again all for the feedback. Today was the first day I've been able to try it and still no luck. Got it wired right to the starter battery but still just dashes. Have narrowed it down to being a ground issue though. Whwn I put my hand on top of the probe when in the water it works so think I'm just gonna coat all my connection points in liquid tape and see what happens Sent from my SM-A515U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
