  1. Ive used this on several reels with no noticable catch rate difference, only a reduced tangle rate difference I have fluoro leaders on them though. Sent from my SM-G950U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Software update is unavailable online, reached out to cust service on monday and have yet to hear back from them.... I am 4 months out of warranty.... Thoughts on best replacement unit at sub 800 pricing anyone (gotta use those cabelas gift cards that ive been saving for a rainy day anyway....)? Humminbird seems to have mixed reviews but best overall of the brands... i dont NEED mega or SI, i only rarely used the DI on current unit... I also dont have autopilot or trolling motor. Would consider AP, but thats probably long down the road. Sent from my SM-G950U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  8. So... i am on year 3 of boat ownership and fishing in general, having some good times but still lots to learn. When i bought boat new, i had dealer install a (new) Helix 5 DI on boat for me, and its worked pretty well since. Looks a little high for an install to me, but it clears the bunk, and has performed in that position to date. I've always had trouble with losing bottom above 8-10 mph (probably due to installed height i'd guess), but at trolling speeds its been solid and marks fish and tracks bottom just fine.... until the other day. While using it on calm water in niagara river just going for a cruise i noticed the depths suddenly stopped tracking appropriately. We were in like 60 feet of water but the FF was either unable to report imaging and depth, or wildly cycling from unknown depth to ~1200 feet and everywhere in between. Stopped marking fish, etc. GPS, nav, temp, etc. completely fine - worked fine all day as well up to that point. I tried reset to default to no avail. Checked that correct transducer model was entered and it was (even switched to all other selectable transducers just to be safe, no resolution) Reads a steady ~2 ft when turned on in driveway on trailer dry (not sure if that's meaningful though), self test function at start up reports no errors. I inspected for damage in case something hit it that we didn't see in water, looks good as new, clean, no damage, cracks, or change in position from install (I check regularly to be safe). Took back out on lake this past saturday, calm as could be, and we ended up just fishing without any sonar (GPS and temp continued to work fine). Tried toggling every setting, checked every connection, no luck. Not sure if I should be looking at a new transducer or just pack it up and send to factory for eval / repair... of the head unit (or full system) Everything is out of warranty by now (really frustrating for what these cost) Anyone have an issue like this? Thinking I might as well just plan to buy something new and see what mfg says... and if reasonable, repair and sell to pay for replacement. Interested in thoughts if anyone has them or experiences with humminbird service and warranty. Thanks for reading this far! Sent from my SM-G950U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  12. Thanks! Still new to this. Ive not had a king take more than 200 - 300 feet of line out on me at a time yet (biggest caught are a few around 20lb.). Most of the gear i have is second hand from here or ebay, so finding out about the drag was a bit of a bummer, but that one should work fine on lake erie walleye i think. I will probably pick up a few 1000' foot spools and see how it goes. Any reason i cant transfer wire from one reel to another? Theres some pigtailing near end, but otherwise in decent shape. Any tips on getting from reel to reel? Sent from my SM-G950U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. So, maybe this is a dumb question - but it's dumber not to ask at all, so here goes.... I have two diver reels set up now, and generally only run back 100-200 feet depending on the day - I see a ton of folks spooling a full 1000' onto their reels... it seems like 300 - 500 feet spooled on backed with braid or 30# mono with a small spro swivel in between would be more than sufficient to me... am I missing something? (or - should I be looking to run the diver further back?) Also - what would be best to back these with? 20# or 30# mono? Looking at a 35/45 size reel application. I've got a great lakes reel that I'm pretty sure has a burned out drag, and I want to either swap the wire over to something else, or just spool fresh and relegate it to walleye duty - seems wasteful to dump a full 1000' spool of wire onto a reel if i'm routinely only using 200-300 feet of it.

  23. Might be too late for you now, but it can get busy at times. Time it right and you'll be ok. There is plenty if space, but only 2 ramps. Ive never had to wait more than 10 min to launch mid morning, almost never on retrieval around dinner time. Good luck Sent from my SM-G950U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
