  2. When i lived in New England, many camps in remote maine are on generator so you must provide your own means to charge your batteries. I welded a little shelf on the tongue of my trailer to accomodate a honda 1000 or 2000 quiet generator. i did not travel with it there but just placed when needed. It was chained down and i had a piece of aluminum i bungied over the top to protect from weather. the key to the system is having an onboard charger that kicks out at least 6 amps per bank. (mine does 10/bank) i use cabelas AGM batteries too. i put 1/2 tank of gas in the gen and let her run while i sleep. it would run outa gas and my batteries are always fully charged in the am. i hope this helps good fishin coach
  3. Honda 2200 generator is next best way, other than plugging into hotel--but theft may be an issue so chain her up. good luck coach

  10. Hi folks, I have rebuilt many trailers over the years here in Florida. Home Depot sells cedar lumber--rough cut--8' -2x4 runs $15 Here's the trick for longevity. Use your choice of trailer bunk outdoor carpet and only cover 3 sides, leaving bottom uncovered for drying. I use a few staples to hold in place but I use 1'' # 8 stainless screws with a 3/4'' diameter fender washer every 12'' down the sides to hold in place. I have had great success with this system. easily 15-20 year life expectancy in fresh water. good fishin

I was prepared for the fleas because of this site as I had never heard of them.( I removed the braid from my riggers) I put 100' of 40 lb mono on my downrigger rods. I bought a set of copperline rods for the trip. I bought 2 sets of hammerhead spinners. we fished with john Gaulke of Finger lakes angling zone on Monday and caught 6 lakers and watched a giant Brown screw with my lure We trolled around the downpours totals 13 lakers-biggest 12lbs 7 salmon-biggest 8.5 (3 were 12") 5 browns-biggest 6 lbs 2 rainbow 4 lbs ea 1 smallie 3 lbs we only saw the sun the last two days thanks for all your help coach and family michele lt nicole lt nicole rainbow nicole brown rory 8.5 salmon
  14. Thanks to this site we had a successful week at Cayuga. we fished Deans in the evening Thursday and Friday --6-8:30 we hit 150 fow and headed south, as wind was light out of north, at 2.0=2.4 trolling spoons 40' on DR 1, 75' on DR2 150' of copper line on one side and 200' of copper on the other side. I fished a rapala deep diver 30' crankbait down the middle I bounced from 100 fow to 175 fow on Thursday -2 lakers 3-5 lbs, 1 salmon 3.5 lbs, 1 brown 5 lbs on Friday 2 lakers 6 lbs, 1 salmon 4 lbs, 1 rainbow 3 lbs, 2 browns 3 lbs--SLAM copper stinngr and Sutton 88 did most damage those 2 nites, got a brown on the rapala good fishin coach
  15. Skate- thanks for your words of wisdom I am removing braid from the riggers as the original wire is beneath I have ordered 2 copper line combos with 30 lb copper. I have not used wire in 30 years. Any helpful hints are appreciated. we try to troll live sawbellies or sewn sawbellies at 1.0 mph +/-, if fishing is slow, we switch to plugs and spoons and troll at 2.0 or dodgers and flies at 1.6 thanks again
  16. Hi folks, Love the site!!!! My wife and daughter and I will be trolling Cayuga for a week. We are avid trolling enthusiasts but have not fished in the finger lakes in the mid summer in 12 years. We have an 18' lowe walkthrough ith a 90 yami 4 stroke and a minn kota ulterra up front. A very nice fishing boat. My concern is the fleas. I have never dealt with them, ever. I have 2 Mag 5 downriggers with 150lb power pro downrigger line. My 2 downrigger rods have 40lb fluoro down to a 10 lb leader to the bait. I can stack another rod on each DR if advised. Off each side I use in line tx 12 boards with 1-2 oz trolling wts on 30 lb braid w/ a 10 lb fluoro leader to bait, or leadcore outfits 18 lb suffix with 10 lb leader to bait. I generally fish a dipsy down the middle of 30lb braid and 10lb leader to bait. I am fearful I may not be able to troll with the pesky fleas. Will I get killed by these critters or just annoyed? I don't have time to set up wire rigs we will be staying just south of Deans ramp. We are fishing on mon 7/23 with the jigmaster captain John. (I set this up to do something different and a backup if the fleas kill us-LOL) Any advice?? Any suggestions?? Any Changes ?? what should I expect? we troll everything from livebait with my Ulterra to flutterspoons, plugs and dodgers and flies with the big motor and trolling plate. from .8 to 2.5 mph generally Please help thanks so much
  17. hello folks I am a huge fan of this website but just joined. I grew up in RI trolling Maine, NH and NY's finger lakes and have lived in florida for 25 years but a few of the southern reservoirs have addicted my family to trolling for salmonoids. We spend every vacation fishing and this year we are staying for 8 days on Cayuga lake. They are excited as hell. Me too as I have not been to the area in 10 years. It'll be my wife and I and my daughter, a 24 year old volleyball player in grad school. We fish out of a lowe 175fs & a 90 yamaha rigged with downriggers and a new minn kota ulterra which we love. We troll a mix of live bait and lures. We may even try lake trout jigging. so many options we will be in niagra for 3 days and have a 4 hour lake Ontario charter ( for the girls to see the size of the lake and the quality of its fishing) out of olcott and then 8 days on Cayuga with our boat. pic is a 10 + lb brown from a NC reservoir a few years back in our old boat good fishing Rory
