    Hey guys- I’m the one who capsized Saturday night I hit something in the water about 2 miles out on the way home around 9-930pm. We took on water from the back end and the boat went under within about 40 seconds. I run a 19’ Starcraft offshore. My gf, her father and 9 year old son all swam back with their life jackets and a cooler as floatation as I told them to swim toward the red blinking light. I stayed with the boat as it stayed upside down with an air pocket and the closed cell foam I put under the floor doing its job. I swam it back to within about 1/8 mile to port and it stayed there until dad and I towed it back to the dock around 1AM. No one was hurt. My boat is totaled. I was not ticketed for anything. The 9 year old had his jacket on already as that is state law and good thing to. I had enough time to pass out life jackets to everyone but me. Coast guard picked me up around 11-1130 just outside the break wall. Thanks to the two kayakers who hung with me for the last 20 mins or so. There’s some serious guilt for putting everyone’s lives in danger. Just glad everyone’s ok. just wanted to set the record straight as the reports have not been accurate. My season is obviously over. For the record, the water was calm all night. I apologize to everyone who I’ve caused delay. We got a few laughs at the launch as the boat was turtled there for a few hours.

    I think the question was more asked of what’s the downside to using a thicker line diameter. I agree with you tho, I think they’d latch onto a telephone pole if you present them the opportunity 🤣🤣🤣

    Increased line diameter. Really it. You can prob land a small whale with 40# BG.

    Agreed with the above. We hand lined a few in Friday morning. I know everyone claims 30# big game repels them but that just hasn’t been my experience.

    I think this will vary with person to person. There’s a shelf out straight from Mexico point toward Oswego. There’s also a long shelf up by Henderson harbor that guys fish Lakers for.

    Yea I agree, Friday morning was not a morning for 500 coppers. It reminded me of the shoreline during brown season. I noticed that people zig zag even for salmon lol thought that was interesting.

    It’s a good rule. You didn’t happen to lose a pink tube did you? Found one floating and took it to the launch but no one claimed it lol

    I typically won’t go out if it says 1-3’, I run a 19’ aluminum. It’s basically gotta be flat for me to fish lol

    Traveled north of the pond from Mexico point, and my god there was a zillion boats there. Worked 120-140, 2/8 with one steelhead and a nice king. White flasher/white meat rig took rips off the rigger Parked at 110. Fleas were atrocious. We handlined both of our fish lol *side note- if you run a large boat, good for you. But don’t run it full throttle within 30 yards of me while I’m setting lines. Have some decency, the lake is huge.* end rant. Some seriously inconsiderate charter captains out there, borderline illegal imo. I get it; time is money, but there were multiple instances where my small boat got pushed around by stupid people. But shout out to the guy in what looked to be a crest liner saber. He was nice.

    I think maybe these two are not a positive at all, you may find. When end I first started, I ran braid dipseys. I now run wire dipseys and mono/flouro on everything else. I use braid as backing for my copper setups tho.

    I can think of one- the braid will not degrade in the sunlight. The strength is a plus.

    You can use that. Not really sure why you’d use a 100’ leader. The braid will not stretch so although it is strong, it will not be very forgiving at all. If a salmon takes a rip and your drag is not set properly, it’s going to snap the line rather than stretch at all. Keep that in mind. I do not think you’ll find many guys use braid on riggers. Plus the fleas will be bad with braid.

    Educate me guys- a bowfin and a gobie are different right? As I understand the bowfin seems to be a mud fish, do they pose any threat to alewives or any baitfish that would impact salmon/steelhead/brown population? Or are they just kinda doing their own thing, minding their own business?

    I’ve had the fleas be just bad enough to be noticeable but not bad enough to clog lines from Mexico to Oswego.
