  1. actually no I didn't, just tied to rope and threw out.. worked great for me.. I would try one before you spend any money... might do exactly what u want, and I would bet u probably have some lying around every one does...lol, I wouldn't even drill any holes... I just used my rope I use to tie to dock..
  2. I have ran both over the years... trolling plate works very nice and nothing left in the water. but if you don't want to spend the money the cheapest option is 5 gallon buckets... you can toss one, and if you still need to go slower you can toss a second bucket. bags I wouldn't spend the money. buckets work awesome.. we trolled for walleye in Canada an would usually run one bucket. slowed us down very nicely. easily get down to 1.8 I think 2 buckets I was at 1.2 mph with a 18 ft 150 hp...
  3. where on the river did you guys catch that one? us or Canadian side?
  4. awesome, we are still washing lures in the cape.....lol nice fish
  5. trolling in the past for walleye , pike, bass etc I would troll long lines when I didn't have to make any quick turns, the advantage was away from the noise of the boat.. if I am following the weed line I would run short lines for quicker turns. atleast that has been my experience... we are still a little warm in the 1000 islands to start trolling for musky but getting closer with the cooler evenings
  6. we are in a holding pattern waiting for the fall to set in to start our search of the elusive musky...lol im thinking late sept we will start our search...
  7. very interesting, we are trolling some of that exact same water in the cape//// r u going up this weekend?
  8. a lot of perch being caught in the 20 to 30 foot range... sinker on bottom and hook up around 18 inches.. and just a worm has been working well up the the cape Vincent area...also picking up bass and pike with the same technique...
  9. I can only hope and dream these fish make a come back... I too would love to catch one some day...however right know they are endangered.. hopefully some day they will come back to there glory days... but have to be realistic and it probably wont happen in my life time..would love to some day see the saint Lawrence sea way sturgeon become fishable for these magnificent fish in new york.... till then we are killing the goby's.....lol
  10. any suggestions on what tension releases I should buy? I will be running 13 inch believers and 14 inch grandmas with 80 lb braid....speed will probably be around 5 mph off my planner boards.... I currently have light and medium, but I am thinking I might need to buy some heavy tension... any suggestions?
  11. nice bass, we are heading up Thursday night for the whole next week... we will be fishing the Carleton island area too..... we have a place in sand bay not far from linda island......
  12. wanted to post a few pics, no wakes drive slow, and be vigilant out there... cape Vincent ny…. the dock came floating out of the fog this morning, once the fog cleared I saw it...
  13. got a pic of it. it was out there in the fog we couldn't see, but as the fog cleared we saw it...
  14. well the amount of debris needs to be considered while out on the water....be careful be safe.... slower speeds, no wakes ….. stay vigilant
  15. we are in cape Vincent for the weekend we have a 2nd home up here.. there are signs up on 12e that say no wake 300 feet ……. which applies to Jefferson county I am not sure about st Lawrence county but I am almost positive it applies there too... cape Vincent and clayton are all 5 mph....
  16. my boat is still in the barn. waiting to fish..... to much debris for me to put my boat and safety of myself and others in jeopardy..... damage to my boat and shore line just isn't worth it... if I fish it wil be with my 14 footer on a small lake till the water goes down some.... I hope to be in by the week of july….haven't seen any boats in cape Vincent all weekend... maybe some people are getting wise
  17. my opinion only, but I would wait till some of this water goes down before heading up.... im not even sure if you will be able to get a boat in if the ramps are flooded.... I will probably be bashed for this one.....lol I am leaving my boat in the barn till the water at least crests.... I would think it will be a mine field out there.... there will be a lot of damage to docks , boat houses etc..... and all of it will be in the water.....
  18. I own a cottage in cape Vincent, ny Jefferson county.... and I have to say it will be much appreciated by many folks on the saint Lawrence... I was at the boat launch in cape Vincent last weekend and decided to snap this pic …. so im very sure they will appreciate the slower speeds..... ps please note this is not my place on the river... I built a retaining wall in 2016 and found out later I also built a break wall. lol.... once again the water is up on my wall..... was the best money I ever spent.....
  19. thanks every one for your input very much appreciated... I bought a few okuma cold water reels added 80 lb brad , a believer, a 8 inch jake and 4 grandma lures to start with.. I also purchased a large 8450 fabril net ,,,, and a new canvas for my boat this yr.... so at this point my budget to date is pretty much blown.... lol... but it is a long time till fall so I may be able to add a few more things for the 2019 season. thanks for the input
  20. I am wondering what is the best lures to buy to troll for musky on the saint Lawrence river...any thoughts?
