Out east of Ibay 49F was 60 over 120. Went in and out of 120 to 140. Had 2 screamers on green atomic meat rigs back 150 and 125. Lost both when the line counter was 232...i think I have a kink in the steel braid...seems suspicipus. green jeans boated a couple more on 300 copper. Green FF took a juvenille.
120 feet...holy crap. Bait everywhere, marks all over the place from 20 ft to 100 ft. Carbon 14, raspberry carbon were on fire. 2 off meat 200 back. And the best of all...my sons first ever Atlantic on 300 copper with raspberry shadow.
I do ok out here anywhere from 150 out to 200 looking for 49F. I dont have the days you guys have west of here when fishing the same temp/depth. Makes me think the water here just isnt as fish friendly. I'm gonna have to take the drive out there one of these days and see for myself.
So if they are concentrated at a particular depth in one area, would it be the same in similar spots? Like if you are smashing them at 130 off Braddocks, would it be similar for me out of Bear Creek? Is there something other than temp they key in on? From what I've been reading, seems west of Rochester is better than out in wayne county...or have I just not figured them out yet?
I had no luck with 300 copper. I had all kinds on it and nothin. Green meet rigs, green FF, NBK spoon on dipsy and triggers. One magnificent rainbow took a koho killer down 30...wrapped itself on rigger cable...now time to by a new spoon. A great morning full of action.
We went 2 for 6 on meat. One screamer took me out to 420 feet, got him back to 200 then pop... Lost a nice steelhead at the boat and had 3 other knock offs from 6am to 10 am
What do you typically use to target steelies? Brighter spoons and flies? Is meat effective and does speed matter? What temp do they hide in, or is it more of a wide open water thing?
Thank you!!
What is the consensus with split rings on spoons? I noticed some come with them in the package and some do not. Do split rings give spoons more action? Do large gap barrell swivels to the same thing?
Thank you!!
Nice work. I landed 3 juvenile in 180 down 90, all on green jeans. Lost of suspended marks down 50, but they didnt want anything to do with the coho killer on the 10 color.
