Started at 8:30 in 110 fow . I think we just missed the morning bite. 15lb king as soon as second line was in. then not a hit till 12:00 then we had steady action till we pulled lines at 3:30 110 to 120 fow was best for us had some doubles, riggers 50 to 60 down 12 kings to the boat 3 steelhead. choppy waves out of northeast.
Its good to know someone was getting them. I'll just have to go again LOL!! I just ordered some deep rig tackle herring strips so I'm looking forward to using them. We were marking them 90-100 down but they were'nt intersted in our riggers.
Went out from Sandy today, lines in at 9:30 out at 2:30 We really struggled fished in 150 to 180 fow had one release on the rigger with nothing there. At 12:30 we were still getting skunked so headed in for lakers getting 6 of them and a brown. doubled on the rigger rod with a laker and a brown on the cheater which was cool. Anyone else have any luck today?
Out of Ibay started east at 9:00 got into a few browns quickly but slowed down as the day went on. Finished with 7 browns of the water at 1:30 beautiful day out there. Stick baits of boards and spoons on riggers took a couple of fish.
I shot this heavy 6 point in Pennsalvania last week after he came out in the field trailing a doe. Havn't had any luck in NY yet hopefully muzzleloader season will be better.
Out of Braddocks today, fished 9:45- 2:15 decent conditions out there today just enough of a chop from the north that I didn't feel like making a run ofshore. Started of good with a king hitting the dipsie with meat rig while letting it out, lost him behind the boat though. Soon after we got 18# king on other dipsie with spoon out 110 over 195. Rest of the day was a drag with only 2 shakers. fished 100-220 fow best was about 200 cold water, had 45 degree down about 40 to 45
Some nice fish there! I'm planning to head out of Braddocks or Sandy tomorrow. Has anyone been ofshore lately? Wondering if thats still the best fishing, I would consider running out a ways tomorrow if it's nice.
I have fished out of a 16 ft. for quite a few years and now a 19.5 ft. I dont look as much at the wave forecast as much as i used to, just a few different weather forecasts, I like to look at the hourly forecast, south 10 mph or less, any other direction about 6 or 7 mph or less. Another thing to keep in mind is if it was windy the day before it could still be rolling, the web cam on here is very helpful to take a look at current conditions. As mentioned before the waves look smaller on the camara. Pick your days and you'll be fine. some weeks you don't get any calm days or you get 3-4 nice days in a row.
To braddocks today with a few buddys, one who was never on the ontario before. Started 8:30 quit 1:45 was a little slow finished 5/6 with a highlight 22 lb king on the dipsie with meat rig 160 fow, took my buddy 35 min to get him in. 2 browns @7 lbs 1 laker and 1 small brown all in 90-100 fow. Had another good rip on dipsie in there but it come of. Haven't been out much yet this year, only the second time now.
Nice going! We seen you out there. We were out for the first time this year. No kings for us, did manage 2 browns on the riggers with spoons in 20 fow.
Still a lot of work to do. There is building going on everywhere. The charter captain said there is money there they will build it back better than before. Older boats that were left in water where piled up on shore. Kinda hard to comprehend the damage till you drive through and see it.
A little late on the report here. I booked a charter with Ft Myers fishing Charters out of Ft Myers beach (captain Joe Greco) he also does charters on lake George in adirondacks in the summer. Had booked for Feb 13 but there was a cold front the 2 days before an it was still rolling to much to get out , he was open the 14th so luckly we were able to push it of and get offshore. Was still a little choppy but not bad, he took us to a spot above a reef 18 mile ride (10 miles offshore) We didnt catch anything big but we caught plenty. Grunts, Red snapper, Sheepshead, 1 Snook, 1 small red grouper. Also hooked a few goliath on light tackle but were'nt able to move them ended up cutting the line. He had a big rod out for the goliath but it never got touched. Beautiful weather down there!
Yeah, catch and release on goliath grouper. I think red grouper might be open, but I don't think they get very big. Hopefully the weather is calm and I have a few pics to post on here.
Thanks guys. I ended up booking a 6 hr charter out of Fort Myers. He said grouper, maybe cobia and kingfish. He did mention depending on weather we could go after goliath grouper which has been good lately. Either way it should be fun and a different type of fishing for me.
